One thing I absolutely love of tshd is the portayal of Yoshiki's self hatred and shame and how the monster seems to mirror it, the fact that all the scenes in which we deal with the most inhumane traits of the creature are almost caricatures of what intimacy is supposedto be, the audience feels uneasy watching them because that's how Yoshiki feels, the squalor, the feeling of something wrong, dirty, the fact that the creature seems to evoke disgust rather than direct terror, it's all something that comes from him and inevitably returns to him despite "Hikaru" doesn't actively try to make him feel that way
