Nakakatakot at nakakalungkot to celebrate August 17. Well for 2 years now. But every time this day arrives, God is always surprising me with tons of reasons to be joyful, to be more grateful. Ang daming nawalang tao, technically, wala ng immediate family. But God has made me realize that a “family” isn’t always our own flesh and blood. Expression lang before yung “pangalawang pamilya.” But it’s the reality now. Forever grateful for our family—to my Papa Jessie Roperos in Italy (who I’m always praying for safety and good health), my Mama (who is in Zamboanga and Cebu most of the time), Roperos family, de Chavez family, Quistol family, Manubag family, and our relatives. But I am blessed to have my Life of Truth Church family, Clickberks, Team Dreams, my National Book Store family, friends, colleagues, teachers and professors, at marami pang iba. When you sow kindness, generosity, understanding, there’s no doubt that, one day, you’ll harvest love, support, and good relationships. If God is with you, you’ll never be alone. Spent my first birthday without my super favorite lola. Tbh, was afraid at first bcos, tbh again, I don’t wanna be lonely on this very special day. Sinong magluluto? Sinong gigising sa’kin nang maagang maaga para kantahan ng ‘Happy Birthday?’ But, a few months back, I told myself that I need to learn how to cook (real food) before this day. And I used the stay home campaign the world is advocating for as an opportunity to learn something new, to make my lola proud (even more 😂), and to keep myself busy and happy. Nay, hindi na lang po pritong itlog, hotlog, eggplant, at noodles ang kaya kong iluto—nagawa ko na yung biko, maja, ginataas, at iba’t ibang ulam na niluluto mo before. I would forever be grateful for the gift of life. Grateful for our heavenly Father for the opportunities He constantly give to let His light shine upon me, His grace overflow through me, His mercy be evident in me, and His love be felt through me. Thanks also for the life of the people that surround me—family, friends, relatives, colleagues. Ang dami-dami lang ng biyaya when we know where to look.
