This. I've tried so many different things, and different ways to document how I feel and if I did anything to make that better or worse. This is one of the most practical ways I've ever heard it, and I'm so grateful I saw this. I often struggle with doing to much or too little, and this genuinely seems like a good way to help. Thank you, OP.

I've seen this before, but it's been years and it just came across my Twitter in its dying days. The words are from a favorite author of mine, Maggie Stiefvater, and they are the words I most need to hear when it comes to dealing with chronic pain and illness. I didn't need this the first time I saw it, six years ago. I need it now. Maybe you do, too.

This is your sign to go to your local library! Istg mine has *everything* - not just books! They have dvd's, cd's, physical audiobooks, online ebook programs, they may even have passes for local museums, places to just sit and hang out, lovely librarians whose favorite part of the job is to give recommendations, they do community outreach, they have summer reading programs, they have classes and clubs, internet access, they may offer counseling for college applications, and so much more.

Using these FREE resources does not burden them, it shows support. It shows reasons for states to continue to give them funding, it shows appreciation to the librarians, and can benefit You in so many ways.

Following is a list of things my library has because it is well-funded and beloved by the community:

3d printers

Makers kits such as calligraphy, jewelry making, cross stitch, drawing, knitting & crochet, origami, quilling, watercolor, and wood burning.

Play area for young children

Displays of the lego builds made by local children

Incredibly impressive model train set display

Shelf full of baking pans available for checkout

Multiple study rooms

Programs for young kids (storytime, etc)

Printing and copying machines

Monthly delivery of library materials to those that are homebound

Vinyl cutter

A hat press

Embroidery machine

Mug press

Heat press

Sublimation printer

BlueYeti pro microphone

Color printer

Button maker

Laser engraver

Laser cutter

And yes, all of this is real shit available at my local library (they do have two branches so I am sure that some of the more expensive machinery is divided among the two, and also that I'm missing some more notable services)

I'm in Indiana (sadly) and we have fireworks stores that we usually get them at- those places have the best ones. Buuuut we can also get some more basic ones at any walmart/grocery stores and sometimes there are stands but generally only for like the week leading up to it. One thing I do want to mention is that most people who don't have a *lot* of property end up going to public parks that often put on their own show. So while there is still a fair amount of firework-buying, it's usually less so in suburbia for fear of burning a neighbor's house down.

I love the retaking of it all, it doesn't even occur to me that when I call myself queer, it might be an insult. Because it's not! I being queer is something I'm proud of- it is pride! It's a sense of community and kindred spirits that I hope to always find joy and comfort in. I hope to forever love, care about, seek to improve, and learn from the community- from the label itself!

My brother's sick. Like, really sick- though in a different way than my chronic illness; he is still fucking miserable. Now, I have never (to my memory) seen or heard this boy cry, he makes literally everything a joke and I find it annoying at the best of times. But today? My mom left to go to the store and guess what the fuck I heard coming from this boy's room. Sobs. Gut-wrenching sobs.

I froze, because yeah, I've been there. But he and I aren't really close, y'know? I wanted to help, but I know that even I might not have responded well to a hug in those moments. (Especially from anyone that wasn't my mom.) And he's not only contagious, but also much less appreciative of those tender moments than I am.

So I was conflicted, I knew he would probably kick me out if I gave him a hug- but I still wanted to help. And while he might not have appreciated comfort directly from me, I knew what had helped me when I couldn't sleep from all the pain.

I wanted to go through with my idea, but I was still nervous. I knew he might take comfort in it- but I had those thoughts of "He'll think I'm even more of a child then usual." Or, "It'll just be awkward."

But I heard that sobbing sound from his room again, and so, silently I got up. I went to the edge of my room, where I stored it and and grabbed it. Silently I went to his door, and knocked twice on the frame. He groaned in response and I went in, holding it in my two hands.

I set it down next to him, saying

"Here, she helped me when I was feeling bad."

He looked up at me blearily, not being able to talk quite right.

" 'anks,"

I nodded, smiling "You're welcome. You need anything?"

He grumbled out a 'no', and right as I was leaving:

"Love you." Again in that pained voice, he still said it.

I smiled again, said "You too." And left.

I saw it again when I went downstairs for dinner- he had just left the couch. To sit at the bar and eat. And- there it was, those embroidered eyes on its face looking right at me. That little black cat.

It was scary, and I wasn't sure if I could help, but I reached out. And because I reached out, I brought him genuine comfort when his throat was so swelled up he could barely speak. Reach out. See what comfort you can bring to someone else
