FINAL ASSESSMENT.
EXPLANATION.
Having experimented with the original theme “documentation” in mind, I began my journey of documenting sounds of rubbish thrown into bins for several days and creating three different audio files. The first file simply compiled all the recordings taken, the second audio overlapped all of them, and the third audio became a mix tape of the compiled sounds with some experimental underlying beats. Going from the analogue (the rubbish) to the digital (recordings), I felt like there needed further step to be taken, thus I translated the three final digital audio files from the acoustic into the visual by using Soundviz to create the digital artwork. The outcome of that can be found in the post below.
I was not completely happy with these three images being my final curated pieces of art. So I scrapped it. And started new.
Being influenced by the studio tasks for the weekly topic of “chance”, I used the epitome of chance to determine the final outcome of my work. After randomly attributing values (mostly things of what I could see in that very moment sitting on my desk) to the numbers from 1 to 45, I waited for Saturday to arrive to see where this would lead me. The list of numbers and their attributions can be viewed in a post HERE.
Last Saturday (the 27th of May) results for the Oz Lotto ruled what I would be doing for my final assessment.

After checking the attributed numbers on the previously made list, my artwork would contain:
42 - artscene.com.au apron 45 - a Germasian 17 - acrylic ochre yellow 15 - acrylic white 24 - acrylic cerulean 18 - acrylic vermillion
in this order.
Which resulted in this:

And being inspired by one of the tasks for the visit of the Art Gallery of NSW, I ended up taking 45 photos of this work, and then picked the 42nd, 45th, 17th, 15th, 24th and 18th picture to be curated as my final final final pieces.

Further experiments
After creating three audio files of the sounds of throwing rubbish in a bin compiled, overlapped and as a mixtape, I felt like the work needed further experimentation, thus leading to a visual translation of the soundpieces.

more experiments.
different topic.
I’ve been working with the theme of “documentation” for the past few experiments, as I have for assessment 2. In this week’s class we talked about integrating chance into experiments, and as someone who enjoys betting the occasional dollar on 21 red, I found this theme exciting and interesting to a point where I thought I’d give it a chance (worst pun intended).
So, if this next post doesn’t make any sense to you, just wait. And you will find out more.
I am only posting it, so you will see the time stamp & see that there is no way for me to cheat.
Cheers.

Experimentation for the final assessment
For the experiments leading to the final assessment I have been drawing on my first assessment (for which I collected boxes that I would have otherwise thrown out, and took a bath with), and started “collecting” sounds of things I have been throwing away over the past few days while labeling the files with what it was that I threw out (like “plastic wrap from the gift box that Caro gave me” ). I have been careful not to throw out things for the sole purpose of the assessment, but rather record the sound of whatever I would have thrown away even without this assessment.
So far I have been digitally experimenting with the files of these recordings, overlaying them, and making sequences, but I plan on experimenting with more layers and translations, both digitally and analogue.

ART GALLERY OF NSW.
INSPIRATION. REPETITION.
I found this piece by Orozco particularly appealing, considering something as seemingly unimportant and mostly negatively perceived like lint was made the main subject of the work. The lint was collected from clothes dryers and pressed onto copper etching plates, creating unique patterns. Repetition comes to play here as well: The piece consists of 12 separate timber framed works of lint on copper etching plates, hung side by side. Repetition of the material, repetition of the subject, repetition of the patterns.
Lint as a “leftover” that is charged by the fabric it once came from, impacted by the rapid movements of the clothes dryers separating it from its garment. This particular piece was not part of the National 2017 exhibition, but in one of the neighbouring exhibits, and it was by far my favourite.
