cedric is completely baffled. he use to be so good at chatting with people almost second nature even. now he can't even think past the next sentence and even then it comes out awkward and clumsy. "hey, as long as we are out of the forest you're free to walk by yourself. i couldn't explain my presence there much less why i left someone else there to fend for themselves. champion material or not" cedric replies. "as far as coming here often that answer i think you know is yes. it's been a lonely life since the tournament for me." this is the first time cedric had ever given any type of an honest answer about what he was doing by himself. he had forgotten how easy it is to open up to someone if he just let his guard down a bit. as they come to fork to go back to the castle or to towards the quidditch fields, which would be vacant this time of day and cedric might be able to still work on things he looked at romilda and just kind of pointed in both directions while leaning to the pitch. "hold your own i'm sure. hogwarts isn't known for making bad wizards you know" he lets out with a slight smile. something he hasn't done since the tournament. "i've been working on a new counter to a disarming spell, but kind of hard to work on a counter with no one to counter." he continues to try and subtly let on that he would like her to join him.
"walk with purpose or not this is no place to be unprepared. i'll walk back with you a ways." cedric says as he throws his bag over his shoulder. cedric tries to fix his hair subtly make tries to play the helpful upperclassman. "you go walk around these parts of the grounds often?" he ask trying to see if he needs to find a new spot to try new spells that he isn't even supposed to know much less perfect. in that moment cedric is reminded of how good it feels to have an actual conversation with someone that wasn't just going through the motions. it feels nice to have an organic conversation with someone for the first time in months.

cedric lowers his wand and as he hurries to put his books from the restricted section into his bag and gather his things without her noticing just replies " i'm just doing some research." cedric had seen her around the grounds but never really noticed her before. it had been a while since cedric even thought about having a normal conversation with someone much less one where he was actually interested in having the interaction in the first place. he had been so focused on working on his craft and gaining more knowledge and strength that socializing was a thing of the past to him. like how someone remembers playing with toys in the backyard. he looks back up to her as he throws his bag over his shoulder and just ask "what are you doing out here? this isn't really the place for a casual walk by yourself"

"what does it look like?" cedric says as he quickly gathers his things trying to conceal the books from the restricted section. cedric came out to the forest to make sure people couldn't see him experimenting with new spells. he definitely didn't expect to see someone here at the moment during the middle of class. "i'm just working on a new spell for disarming. for when i duel the guys for sport" he says in a not so good attempt of telling a lie. "shouldn't you be in class?" he ask as he throws his bag over his shoulder and heads in her direction.
cedric is drained both mentally and physically. his hair doesn't sit oh so perfect like it has in the past, his clothes aren't in pristine condition they are battered and torn in places on the sleeve, his skin more pale than before. sneaking out to the forbidden forest to practice spells and dueling skills has taken its toll. it hasn't gone unnoticed by the professors either. cedric is always staying after class now trying to pry more information from them and getting told to stop working ahead of the curriculum. cedric is pretty sure moody knows exactly what he is doing, especially when cedric is trying to get him to talk about the "good ole days" during the first wizarding war and how he trained. moody seems to just give a look i know but here's the answer type of look as he begins to divulge exactly what cedric is looking for as if moody was once there trying to do the same thing all those years ago. this would be so much easier if cedric had someone on his side wanting to prep for whatever is coming but then again no one else was there. no one else was in the maze and felt that darkness. no one else looked harry in his eyes before he grabbed the cup. that look will forever be seared into cedric's mind. one night right before dusk while cedric is finishing up a new disarming spell he hears footsteps coming up on him. he grabs his bag and stands in a more defensive position and shouts out " who is out there."?

"what are you even doing out here?" cedric says annoyed as he lowers his wand and starts to get his things. "of course i'm okay. i'm just doing some research" he follows as he hurries to put the books from the restricted section in his bag before he sees them. cedric in a way is relieved someone has found him, even if it is just neville who seems to be out looking for some type of herb. cedric doesn't really know how to say it but he needs a partner anyone really. someone who will work with him and help him hone his skills at dueling. moody refuses to duel him and just tells him to find a student. "what plant are you looking for anyways?" cedric asks

⌜robert pattinson, twenty-four, cis man, he/him / till i collapse by eminem + survivor’s guilt, always studying and looking for new spells for dueling, constant state of readiness/ preparedness ( never wants to be caught off guard and lose a friend again) ⌟ hey, have you met CEDRIC DIGGORY yet? the PUREBLOOD is a SIXTH YEAR at hogwarts and are a HUFFLEPUFF makes sense given they tend to be a bit HONORABLE and BROODING. it seems the death of the boy who lived has placed them on the LIGHT side of the looming war. let’s just hope they make it out alive.
full name: cedric diggory
date of birth: September 1st
place of birth: devon, england
family: only son of Amos Diggory.
sexual orientation: straight. can come off with having bisexual vibes but has no real interest in the other side.
tattoos: A badger on his left shoulder. He got it in secret when with friends on a night on the town. not even his dad knows about it.
style: skinny jeans and converse are the staples to every outfit. v-neck shirts with a leather jacket on cold nights. on cooler days a hoodie can replace the jacket.
amos diggory was always in the background and never in the forefront. as a student we nothing to write home about and wasn't part of any teams or organizations. when he met his wife it was love at first sight. they settled down immediately and year later cedric was born. during the first wizarding war his wife wanted be on the frontlines but amos insisted on keeping a low profile. she ran off to help during the final days of the war and was killed. cedric is all he has left in this world. his heart grew each day seeing cedric being the person he always wished to be. popular, smart, athletic, prefect, seeker, and in several clubs. his heart almost stopped the day of the third event. for a moment he thought it was cedric lying there on the ground lifeless and cold. his last season found him in portree, where he ultimately settled after connecting with sorcha. it wasn't love but it made sense. it was time to marry, she wanted children, and kelly was desperate to carve a different legacy.
cedric being an only child he surprisingly made friends really quickly. he was always the life of the party, even though he preferred to keep a low profile. his dad was always bragging and carrying on about his accomplishments, to the point that cedric was embarrassed by them. being a seeker for hufflepuff brought him joy and being a prefect was more of a thing to do. cedric is always in the middle of the action but wishes to go back to the good ole days of when he was little and could be alone. oh well, always better to have too many friends than not enough. that is until the day of the third event. that day changed cedric forever. no more going out, no more quidditch, he even gave up being a prefect. from that day on he cared about one thing and one thing only. making sure to be strong enough to ensure that he could save the life of the people around him.
these days you can find cedric either in the library studying or out somewhere working on a new spell. cedric doesn't sleep much these days. those events just replaying in his head over and over again. what if he was able to defeat krum sooner. harry wouldn't had gotten a head start to the cup. what if he acted quicker and the vines didn't get him. would he had noticed something wrong with the cup, after all harry was younger and way more inexperienced than him.
being withdrawn has it's obvious drawbacks. his friends have moved on, no more admiration from the younger students, even his dad has stopped talking about him so much. his dad almost speaks as if cedric died that day. it doesn't matter to cedric, from here on out it is about getting stronger. he doesn't exactly know what happened out there but he knows what he felt. a dark magic something pulling him away from the cup while pushing harry to it. he isn't sure what is out there but he will be ready next time.
when cedric is out amongst his peers it is in more of a background role. no more being the life of the party. now he sits there and chats as people come up to him but he is more or less gauging whether or not they sense something isn't right in the wizarding world as well. as if the balance has been thrown off.
he is always finding someone new to duel. figuring he can either help improve their skills or learn something new from them. he is able to use his natural charm that made him so popular to make it seem more like a joke than anything. with each new skill or spell he learns he writes it down in his notebook and who he learned it from.
the days of him being a leader are over. he feels like he spent too much time at the front that he missed easy lessons that could've served him in the tournament. the little time he spends socializing these days is a going through the motions more than anything. the people he feels closest to these days are the regulars at the library. just passing greetings and goodbyes no real talking but they are the ones he spends most of his time with.
his mission this year is to get into the restricted section as much as possible. finding all new kinds of spells to add to his arsenal. always trying to find a professor to grant him access but not making it so obvious that he is wanting to be there for anything other than academic purposes is the main goal. it isn't too hard as teachers like everyone else liked cedric and after last year even sympathize with him. though, throughout t the year cedric knows it will be harder and harder to get access he soaks up every minute he can in there.
overall cedric is a shell of his former self. he tries to keep up appearances as his dad even talked about him not returning if he didn't get back to the old cedric. so cedric does what he has to in order to play the part but he would much rather be in the forbidden forest practicing a new spell than in the court yard talking about one of his heroic feats in a quidditch match from long ago.
