Sympathy Pains teaser
-
My stomach was still bothering me when Saturday rolled around, and I seriously considered canceling my plans with Maya. But as it had done every day for the last week, it had cleared up by the afternoon.
So I put on a cute, loose top - my breasts had been strangely tender lately, too, making me wonder if my period was coming early - and a pair of swishy black capris. I checked my makeup and curled hair in the mirror three times before finally walking out my front door and across the lawn to hers.
I’d barely begun to knock when the door swung open, Maya standing with that ever-present smile on her beautiful face.
“Vamos, vamos! I was just setting everything up in the kitchen.”
She turned and disappeared into the house, leaving me to cautiously venture inside and follow her. The design and fixtures were nearly identical to my half of the house, but the furnishings were much more vibrant than anything I owned. The walls remained a boring ivory, a drawback of renting, but there were splashes of color everywhere I turned in the form of Maya’s belongings. Bright reds and oranges complemented by rich purples and blues breathed life into the modest apartment. And everywhere, dog hair. It was comfortable and well-lived-in.
Maya was already in the kitchen, pulling out bowls and utensils and setting them beside a cluster of ingredients on the counter. I hung awkwardly in the doorway, my hands hanging at my side, ready to spring to action at the first instruction.
She looked up at me, let out an exasperated sigh, and circled the counter to grab me by the hand and drag me over to where she was working. I tried not to trip over my own feet as she did so.
“Don’t be afraid. The flour doesn’t bite. I might, though.”
My cheeks flooded with heat and I focused my gaze on the recipe book lying open-faced on the countertop. “I could really take a bite out of some of these desserts,” I said lamely.
Her returning grin put me slightly more at ease. “That is the plan, si?”
I nodded and she only laughed.
“Let’s start with something simple. Chocolate cake. I’ll teach you how to make a box mix taste like it came from a bakery.”
My eyebrows lifted at her claim, but all I said was, “Okay, maestro, tell me what to do.”
She placed a measuring spoon in each of my hands and pointed at two ingredients, rattling off a list of instructions I tried to keep up with. She spoke quickly, but never grew frustrated if I missed a step or failed to understand her directions. Soon enough, we had a modified batter of cake goop ready to go in the oven, with milk and butter acting as substitutes for oil and water, and just a splash of coffee to bring out the chocolate flavor. Or so she promised.
Once the pan was safely in the oven, Maya grabbed a batter-covered mixing tong and waggled it at me with seductive flair.
Heart hammering, I stepped closer to take it from her, all the while desperately hoping I hadn’t misjudged her interest. Instead of handing it to me, she held it up to my mouth. When I hesitated, she leaned in and took a swipe at it with her tongue before brandishing it at me once more. Obediently, I leaned closer and licked the chocolate off, my eyes never leaving hers.
My entire body tingled with the tension and excitement of it, and I hardly dared to breathe.
I nearly died when she caught a drop of chocolate threatening to fall between us on her tongue, and then continued to weave around the wires of the whisk as I did the same.
When it was clean, she lowered it back into the bowl. My breath caught as I watched her swipe a dollop up onto her finger and raise it to my lips. The world went still, seconds stretching out before me into eternity. I could barely believe myself as I opened my mouth and she slid her finger inside. My mouth closed around it and I gently sucked, chocolate coating my tongue. I moaned, but not from the taste.
Maya smiled, but this time it was slower, deeper, more sultry.

Born of Stars teaser chapter
-
Alistar promised to give me a tour of the grounds once I felt settled, but didn’t want to overwhelm me. I expected him to offer me one of the rooms we’d used the night previous, but to my surprise, he showed me to an enormous master sweet on the third floor. Complete with a full bathroom, a sitting area, and a private balcony, it was practically its own apartment.
By the time we were eating dinner in a massive dining room that he’d cooked himself, I was exhausted. The sun had set on our second day together, and we were in much the same position as the first time, just this time infinitely more intense. But here we were again, sharing a meal at sundown in his ancestral home.
He’d been quiet for most of the day; I got the sense he was attempting to give me space to process. It gave my insecurities plenty to work with.
“Do you suppose…” I began awkwardly in an attempt to jumpstart a conversation, stabbing a bite of finely prepared food with something that looked mostly like a fork. “Do you suppose, that if a human pregnancy is roughly nine to ten months, and this is supposed to last ten days, that I’ll basically progress a whole month in one day?”
I tried to keep my voice light, though the concept was baffling and terrifying.
He chewed thoughtfully across from me. “I do suppose that’s correct, yes. Furthermore, if a standard human pregnancy is around forty weeks, that means you’ll be another week’s worth along every six hours or so.”
“An easily divisible number isn’t the only thing that’s going to be round around here,” I quipped mostly under my breath.
Something flashed in those glittering indigo eyes that I thought looked like desire, but he simply took another bite without breaking eye contact. “If we conceived about this time last night, then one could presume you are starting your fifth week just about now. You are now in your second month.”
“They say time flies, but this is ridiculous,” I joked, finishing off my plate.
His laugh was a deep, magical sound that reverberated through the room. “Indeed.”
Finishing his own plate, he stood and circled the long table the come and kneel beside me. My heart stuttered, his eyes pinning me in place like before.
“Are you satisfied, Lady Clark?” he asked, voice low.
I swallowed, my mouth going dry. “Excuse me?”
“With your meal. Has your hunger been satiated?”
“Oh!” Of course that was what he’d meant. “It was delicious, but honestly, I’m still hungry enough to have ten more helpings.”
The grin that splayed across his full lips sent tremors through my body, and I chided myself for being so damned excitable. “I suspect that it is our growing little miracle that has you so famished.”
I would have thought that the mention of our unborn child would calm my excitement, but it seemed to have the opposite effect. I was acutely aware of exactly how I got into this predicament, and the memory of his hands on my body made my breathing hitch. The large, hard cock that had made me this way wasn’t far from my mind, either.
“Come,” he said softly, holding out a hand. “Let’s satisfy your hunger.”
Swallowing again, I took his hand. In one fluid motion, he pulled me from the ornately detailed dining chair and up into his arms as if I weighed nothing. We were halfway to the kitchen before I could protest. “I’m perfectly capable of using my own two feet, you know.”
Another deep, rich chuckle as he set me down on the counter of the kitchen island. For the briefest of moments, I thought he might kiss me; he was tall, and we were almost perfectly at eye level with one another. I bit back my disappointment when he crossed the room to pluck a cluster of fruit from a display of other plants. The cluster resembled a bunch of grapes, though the fruit themselves looked vaguely strawberry-like.
When he returned with the strawberry-grapes, I had opened my legs as nonchalantly as I could manage so that he would naturally position himself between them at the edge of the counter. He did not disappoint. The heat of his body rolled off of him and radiated through my thighs. I could hardly think a single, coherent thought as he picked a single piece of fruit from the bunch. Without a word, I obeyed the instruction in his eyes to open my mouth, and he placed it on my tongue.
It was as sweet as it looked, and I groaned aloud in spite of the delightful distraction in front of me. Some of the juice trickled from the corner of my mouth, but before I could wipe it away, he reached out and brushed it off with his fingers. Bringing them to his lips, he licked the juice from his fingertips without his gaze ever leaving mine.
I shivered with anticipation and longing.
