Just for fun I did the Stranger Things spread with the two new oracle decks. Not so fun when it smacks you with a truth bomb... but the upside is that both new oracle decks seem to work fine for multi-card spreads. New Oracle Deck 2/2: The Answer Is Simple by Sonia Choquette. This deck is 62 cards and does come with a guidebook. There are a couple pages in the back with room for personal notes. Each card is vibrant in pallette and has a color pencil/crayon colored feel. These are single faced cards. The back has the dove image depicted from the box and guide. These are wider cards as well so the overhand shuffle is easiest. My deck is new so the glossy finish and stiff cardstock made it a bit difficult but I am sure with use they will wear in nicely. New Oracle Deck 1/2: Words of Wisdom for Women Who Do Too Much by Anne Wilson Schaeff. I haven't found too much on these other than some purchase sites. While they are not marketed as oracle cards they do seem to be useful in this way. This deck has 50 cards with lovely watercolor style art. The energy is very feminine however there are cards that depict males so I wouldn't say its women exclusive. This deck does not come with a guide book it does come with a basic suggestion card on how to draw AND every card has a snippet of wisdom that appears to be based on the authors meditations book on the reverse side. The downfall to the double sided cards is you need to blind shuffle to be truly unbiased as you can clearly see each card. So I bought this deck in New Orleans at Z'otz Cafe of all places. A local artist makes them, self published, and they are 3D. They come with a hand bound little book and a pair of 3D paper glasses. What a clever idea, removing greenery and adding changing leaves. I live in a location that stays green into October/November but we definitely have fall flowers that could ve utilized.

Welcoming Mabon

This is a small craft that I created which can be used to help welcome Mabon. And I feel like I am always mentioning price in posts but it is so critical to what we think we can and can’t do in life so I need you all to know that this only cost me $3!!

Literally the only thing you need to pay for here is the twig-like wreath I purchased for $2.99 at Hobby Lobby. The acorns and brown leaves I found in a forested dog park that I bring my pup to. The greenery and red leaves I got from bushes in my own yard. Oops, I forgot, if you decide to do acorns, you will probably need to purchase super glue if you or someone you know doesn’t already have it. It should only about $2 for that (and will last you for many more projects!)

Things you will need

twig wreath

various items to decorate such as acorns & fall leaves

glue (for acorns, leaves can just be tucked wherever)

green leaves or leafed branches (however many will countdown to Mabon)

red or brown leaves (however many will countdown to Mabon)

This craft came to me in bursts of thought, initially all I wanted to do is make an autumnal wreath to display for Mabon, but several days after making it I got the idea to put greenery in the wreath and take a piece off each day that we get closer to Mabon so that it will represent the cycle of greenery going away in nature until the day of Mabon and all that is left is fall items. But then I decided that I liked the idea even more by replacing each green item with a red fall leaf to represent the turning of the leaves and fall taking over (plus it keeps your wreath full and pretty looking!) I decided to use various sizes of leaves for variety. 

So there it is and I hope you consider making this! It is very simple and is a fun way for us all to anticipate Mabon and represent this gorgeous stage of nature’s cycle.

Celebrate Mabon!

hey everyone! I really want to continue my Celebrate …! series, so even though it’s currently Mabon today I thought I’d still make a Celebrate Mabon! post. Apologies for the delay, but I just moved back to university this week and things have been hectic to say the least! These Celebrate …! posts give a basic overview of each of the Sabbats as they come along. I know quite a few people do this on tumblr, but I hope that my personal take on each of the Sabbats can be helpful and interesting to some of you.

Mabon, or the Autumn Equinox, is the second harvest festival on the wheel of the year. It is celebrated on the Autumn Equinox, around the 21st September in the Northern Hemisphere - or the 21st March in the Southern Hemisphere. The main themes of Mabon are celebrating the harvest, thanks-giving, and noticing the equal and balanced nature of light and dark during this time. 

Mabon marks the first day of autumn, and after today the nights will grow longer and colder. It is the seperation point between the two halves of the year. The name Mabon refers to a figure from Welsh mythology and Arthurian legend, Mabon ap Modron. Autumn Equinox was given the name Mabon by Aiden Kelly in 1970. 

Because Mabon marks the descent into autumn and colder weather, now is a brilliant time for spells with the themes of self-reflection, thanks-giving, altruism, balancing and grounding. 

Simple things to do on Mabon:

Take time to pause and reflect on the year so far, write down what things have gone well, what things were disappointing, and what you can learn from each event

Perform a simple thanks-giving ritual 

Think of those who are in need and have less than you, in what ways - practical and spiritual - can you help?

Perform balancing and grounding spells 

Perform family focused magic

Decorate your altar or workspace with autumn leaves, conkers and acorns 

Cook with warming spices such as cinnamon, as well as apples, pumpkins, squash

The use of red, brown and gold colours

Spending time with family, cooking a family meal

Use of amber, tigers eye, citrine, yellow aventurine

Is the beach. This is my go to place to relax and spend time with my hubby. The ocean really is a siren call for me and I feel blessed to live on the Gulf Coast. My initial draw was 10 of Coins. I got a reverse 10 of Swords as a clarifier. After asking my deck if it could please clarify more, it gave me 2 of Coins. And then the lightbulb came on. I don’t know if I have the courage for what it suggests but it is definitely something to ponder. ⛱
