I have to end #MarchMeetTheMaker earlier. I have to focus on a new project and a couple private projects and found it too hard to keep up now. It was a great challenge, I failed to finish, but I decided to sign off intentionally, rather than letting guilt haunt me trying to catch up. ermm... Mistake or lesson. Absolutely unprepared for #MarchMeetTheMaker day 18, just to stay in the spirit of the topic 😅 Enjoy my wise old fox picture while you read my biggest mistake i never ever repeated: I didn't read my brief for the page layout before I started with the book pages... yes, so simple yet so impactful. A friggen nightmare and completely self-induced. I did not only have double spreads where I should have single, not only have I forgotten to include margins, but I have managed to use the wrong ratio for the pages. And it was not until I send in the final illustrations that it was noted by the editor himself. With 5 days past the deadline, a 3 month old baby that doesn't nap longer than 30min, I had to change all 32 pages in a day, digitally. Did I mention I am a real media artist... #MarchMeetTheMaker Day 17: What I am working on ... today! It's Sunday and I usually spend time with my family :D but I try to work during my daughters nap in the afternoon and definitely after her bedtime. I am between the projects at the moment and working finally on my own private pieces. Here are the lantern festival kids. Usually I accept work only for one book project at the time and don't post anything until it's published. #MarchMeetTheMaker Day 14: How I learnt My knowledge comes from a collection of different sources at different time periods of my life, from childhood until now. I observed my grandma, was sent to local artist when I was a kid, I looked up techniques in books, copied from anatomy books, I drew movie characters, I tried to copy mangas (nerdy teeens lol!) #MarchMeetTheMaker day 11: Reducing waste 🙈 Gosh, this is a good one. I think my craft is not very environmentally friendly, even it doesn't seem so. I use a lot of paper and water. The pigmented waste-water contains particles that are probably not degradable and some tints are most likely triggering allergic reactions or could be toxic in big quantities. However, it is water colour (water soluble per se) and can be washed out of systems, and the paper can be recycled. #MarchMeetTheMaker day 10: You - who is behind jetzyey illustrations? I am a 37 year old carrer changer, who still thinks 2005 was three years ago, mama of one, happily married, lover of crafting, annonymous hoarder, untypical yorksher-tea habit drinker, under 5min shower record holder, short temper recoverer (with occasional throwbacks),  bread and cheese worshiper,  four language (serbian, german, english, danish) speaker illustrator. Behind jetzyey illustrations: I am producing the pictures myself, but I consider jetzyey illustrations to thrive on the team effort of my husband and me. #MarchMeetTheMaker day 9: Story behind the name Jetzyey is constructed from "jetzy" + "yey!" and illustrations is just the descriptive part. Jetzy, actually Jeca (pronounced "Yezzaa") is a nickname for "Jelena" in Serbia, where I was born. It sounds really really cute and I love it. I tried different types of spellings, so my foreign speaking friends in countries I lived in (Germany and UK) would be able to read it in the way it should sound. We tried jezi, jezy, jeza, and sometimes jelly… So, for english speaking I constructed "jetzy". The nickname was always a part of me so I couldn't think of any other nickname for my illustration business. However, I found it a bit short and thought it would be probably used by other Jelenas who go for their nicknames... so I thought about an extention that would still sound cute and give the name positive vibe. #MarchMeetTheMaker day 7: Less glam side - a video Basically, everything in my office is less glam an not Instagram ready Here you see my desk with my current work. Not as messy as it can be, as I try to clear the mess every evening to be ready for the next day. The less glam side of my job I would say is especially admin stuff(and you can see the small tower of paper in the white box where the laptop is sitting on) I have to dress for the day, because I am out for shopping or playing with my child before I have the quiet hour and can finally start working. It is a simple casual relaxed clothing style, but I treat it as an uniform. The uniform attitude helps me minimize decisions in the morning. P.s. If you can hear the soundtrack in the background, it is Polo & Pan (live at Serre Monumentale for Cercle). I love love techno and electronic Music for working. #MarchMeetTheMaker day 6: Full time or part time I am part time and juggle between being a stay home mum and working during the quiet times (napping hours and nights). Sometimes, I find it hard to get into work mode when my daughter goes off for a nap. My brain is scattered and thinking about tidying and washing, and just being tired from long plays or outside at the playground. Luckily, I also get two mornings per week, where she is at the nursery, so I manage about 20h worth of work per week. My husbands job has to carry our family at the moment, as I am not making enough with the books yet.   Many of you can relate, and I read it from other mums who are posting during this challenge. #MarchMeetTheMaker day 5: Detail or close up - My light box Here is a special detail about my work progress, that doesn't get shown at all. It's my light box. I trace my sketches and roughs onto paper for colouring in. In the first years, I really needed the light box to feel comfortable with painting, because I knew if the painting fails, I still have the original sketch and won't loose my nice drawing... I even separated the picture into elements. Each character, object, or background was traced and painted isolated from the rest, and later put together in photoshop.  I was depending on having this cruch innorder to overcome the intimidation of a huge "master piece" attempt.
