If you think that Dallas Winston is a unredeemable monster, you didn't get the point of the story. Thank you!

As somewhat of a “fashion girlie”, I think it’s interesting and powerful to think of the thought behind the wardrobe of the characters (specifically in the movie).
One thing I thinks it’s important to note is that the way trendy fashion spread in the 60s was a lot different and slower then today. The outsiders in taken place in the mid to late 60s, which we most often associated with the rise of British influenced Mod fashion ( something like the costumes of the Soc girls in the musical). But I think it’s interesting that in the movie, most of the costumes reflect the fashion of the late 50s.
Before the internet, most people got their outfit inspiration from magazines. If you didn’t live in a place like California that had instant access to rising fads, then the time you would be able to see those new trends would be Delayed. Many people also bought their clothing from these magazines in catalogs. I don’t think Tulsa was necessarily always caught up in the times; so I think that’s one the biggest reason we see the Soc girls, who would be the ones to be most in trend at the time, still wearing outfits that is reminiscent of the late 50s.
Now the reasoning behind the greaser wardrobes being slightly out of date is more simple, it just implies that many of them are wearing hand me downs. Most of the greases didn’t even have the ressources to buy clothes they needed, let alone the latest fashion. Rewearing old clothes was probably the options most of them had. Im sure when they did have the money to buy clothes, it was bought secondhand.
I think this is such an interesting topic. I might talk about it this more parts of costuming that I think is interesting and story relevant. Let me know what you guys think, or if you have anything you would want me to dive into!

I don’t think any of the Curtis brothers are very musical, but a frequent porch activity for me and my family is playing guitar and singing!
I personally like to do school work on my porch so maybe pony can do that.
My grandpa also liked to bird watch and feed squirrels so there’s that too!
What are some “porch activities” for lack of a better term, good portion of my Darry-Ponyboy fic takes place on the porch one night. I need some general hangout activities for the porch.
Already thinking of things like- watching the street/people watching, the radio, reading, drinking, smoking etc
Or physical stuff I guess, stuff that’s not just talking.
This’ll be useful for future ideas generally, think it’s as much a hangout spot as the living room or the lot.

Whenever Curly cuts his hair even just the tiniest bit shorter Pony will fall to the floor like this
Tumblr media
Because he is a dramatic bitch and he likes to run his fingers through Curly’s hair because that’s what his mom used to do to him before they passed
And then like an hour later pony starts talking about how much he loves the new hair

Darry & Soda snuggles for the soul! Hinton said cuddling was canon and I’m going to make that everyone’s problem.
I used a pose reference on Pinterest and can no longer find the image, so credit to that artist, whoever they are 😬🙏

The Outsiders Headcanons!- Cat or Dog Person?
As someone who has multiple cats and dogs I feel like I am qualified enough to decide this. I am very firm in my beliefs about this but if you feel differently I wanna know why!
Pony- Dog person! Now do I think he will pet a stray cat that approaches him? Yes, yes I do. But I think he likes the attention dogs give him. They are just so happy! Plus they remind him of Johnny…
Sodapop- definitely Dog person. Honestly I think all of the Curtis brothers are dog people. Soda likes dogs because he can actually do activities with them. I think playing fetch and going on walks would be just as fun for soda as they are for the dog (It helps with his undiagnosed ADHD lol).
Darry- Dog person. As I said I think all of the Curtis bros are dog people. Now I think Darry definitely comes across as a cat person, but hear me out, I think he’s scared of them. The reason being is that cats are so unpredictable and uncontrollable. Darry likes to be in control and have everything handled but you can’t really do that with a cat. Plus he just thinks they are menacing..
Two-bit- Also Dog person. He’s just so silly and dogs are too. They just match eachothers freak. He also definitely thinks cats are too sophisticated for him. However, he definitely likes to torment cats by spraying water on them and watching them perk up.
Steve- neither. I just feel like Steve doesn’t like pets. He definitely refers to animals as “it”. He just sees them as annoying and doesn’t understand the point of them. I see him as someone who just is like “ew get it off me”.
Johnny- Both! Unlike Steve, I think Johnny treats all animals very well, especially strays. He feeds lonely pets that come across the lot. I think he enjoys their comfy presence and feels very connected to them. I do think that he becomes uncomfortable when a they bark, hiss, or jump. He doesn’t like when they are rowdy. But overall he’s just an animal lover.
Dallas- CAT PERSON, OMG IS HE A CAT PERSON!!! No one can change my mind about this. Dallas just understands cats, self sufficient and they both have an anti social attitude. He definitely has a stray cat that follows him around and he feeds. He named it Tom after Tom and Jerry too.

Real question here, when do you guys think the outsiders actually took place? I know that the musical says it’s 1967 because that is when the book was published, but S. E. started writing it in 1965. I know to a lot of people it’s not that important but the 60s was an extremely progressive decade so the 2 years make a HUGE difference in the society around them. I personally think it makes more sense for it to be 65’ but I wanna know what others think!
