If Jihyun and Rika were a same sex couple they would have been the most popular ship in the Mystic Messenger fandom especially given how people especially in animanga and animanga adjacent spaces (such as otome games) find toxic doomed same sex relationships very appealing (and I am no less guilty of it) especially given the fact that both of them are quite toxic when it comes to how they view each other and treat each other.

#GRIPS YOU#prev i thought i was alone for sooooo long in thinking that he wasnt terribly ooc in saerans ae omg hiii#i feel like a lotta people miss that he goes back to rika in saeran's ge because he takes the wrong lesson out of saeran/mc's relationship#bc missing all of the context that ONLY saeran and mc have. it DOES look like 'if you love someone hard enough they'll be healed' is true#from the outside lol. so ofc he goes back to rika to try again! and ofc he's more willing to take on collateral damage!#people forget that he's written to be obsessive and single minded!#if it means rika will be 'healed' and ergo his love will have been 'pure' enough to do that he will literally do whatever#like thats how we got here in the first place! he's not a great person pre-route!#he's just sympathetic and justifies himself really well and IS ALSO a victim so you dont WANT him to be a bad person#sae:ae turns that on its head by taking it to the extreme -- his actions are more present and personal than distand and plotty#and therefore much harder to justify so it FEELS like a shift but its really his facade crumbling under pressure#nothing about him going to extremes for rika is ooc. and its not like hes cackling evil laughing the whole time either#he's in his head and clearly super distressed and gloomy the whole time he's playing this ghoulish ass game of house#he's just disassociating enough to justify it#its soooo juicy and fun actually i love sae:ae v hes fun to chew on#jihyun kim

the thing about mysme is that when i was playing it at 17 it cracked me upppp that jumin/v/jaehee are all treated as basically ancient despite only actually being a few years older than the younger members.
