obx hot take: I ABSOLUTELY hate Rafe. Like, he really is the worst villain. Priviledged white guy who thinks he deserves everything, even when he steals it. Killed someone, tried to kill Sarah muitiple times, and I genuinely DO NOT understand the Rafe fangirls. Like, he is a bland piece of white bread on top of being an asshole. Why?

my rafe hot take is i liked him best in s1/s2 when his insanity was contrasted with wards insanity like. when ward was very controlled with his villainy and then you had rafe shooting cops and beating up teenagers. i found that the most interesting. unfortunately i do get the rafe hype bc drew starkey is inhumanely attractive but as far as like his actual character,,,, he's gotten more bleh to me. itll be interesting to see where he goes in pt2 as far as getting the "family" back together but idk we shall see

hot take: John B does not deserve all the hate he gets!! I see where it’s coming from but he’s trying his best and he’s a great friend to JJ and generally a really good boyfriend to Sarah too.

personally i find him unbearably corny and i can never tell if its his character or chase but either way it makes me hate him a little bit but! i feel ya the hate train does make me want to stand up for him. plus he's finally becoming more interesting to me

the racism thing on obx is something that annoyed me too cuz of course i don’t expect white writers to know about racism but ur show is located in north carolina, you touched upon slavery and two of ur core characters are black. rafe and topper’s abuse on pope must come from racism as well not just class. kiara not feeling included in the kook academy can also be linked to race (including how everyone seemed to have a thing for kiara cuz yes, black women are often sexualized) and this could’ve also extended to mike and how maybe being a man of color and building ur way up was really hard which i feel would’ve make his case a lot better. but again, they want the show to be escapism even if sometimes is so unrealistic.

yep i definitely get the frustration bc its literally right there in their faces but then they never follow through. and idc that the writers are white its so easy to bring in other people or even talk to cast/crew and get their perspectives

one of your anons made me think about canon established jiara and im so agree w them not being the pda type of couple but the ones that search for intimacy in the quiet moments. instated of holding hands a quiet arm touch or hand in the power back. i can see them being the fun and edgy hot couple in public and leave all the vulnerable moments to themselves. i hope s4 delivers in that front because it is needed.

hmm my hot takes.... well. ive reiterated over and over again that the pogues needed more screen time (not a hot take). i also think big john being a shit dad was a great characterization and added some depth to the show. im also glad he actually died (not a hot take i think).

ig my biggest hot take, especially being a jiara shipper, is that i wish we had more pope / jj interactions. i genuinely love their friendship and chemistry and missed that this season.

i also wish kie and sarah's conversations had passed the bechdel test (also prob not a hot take) LMAO. like. they had some really cute moments but damn girl john b is off on all these adventures and you're ranting to kie ab topper like come onnnnnn.

i thought singh was a lame villain. while kie did look hot in that red dress i cringed ab that plot line, it felt very y/n to me lolllll.

this hot take is about s2 because we've already talked about s3 BUT john b should have shown more compassion for sarah when ward "died". like i know ward is shitty and they all hate him etc etc. but john b knows what it's like to lose a father an he also knows how much sarah hates and has been hurt by ward. i just always hated how he stood there like his pain and hate were stronger than his love for his "wife"

so i kind of liked edgy, careless john b lol. i thought it made him more interesting and was an actually good conflict between him and sarah that had nothing to do with topper. i also think it set up that scene well in the finale of s2 where john b had the choice to kill ward, sarah gave him her approval, and he decided not to. because in that moment on the dock, john b finally had what felt like justice. they didn't get the gold, his dad is still "dead", but at least ward got what was coming to him. and this is not me excusing his reaction bc yeah he should have been able to comfort sarah but like. i get it. ya know?
