Merida and Hiccup's Story chapter 15-a Happy beginning
Chapter 15-A Happy Beginning
The next two days were like a whirlwind. When Merida and Hiccup returned with their fathers and the clans to DunBroch Castle. Elinor immediately hugged both her daughter and the young Viking, happy to see them and thankful they were alive. They explained what happened to everyone and the two leaders declared that a peace treaty would be made.
"And now, a new age is an upon us. For peace, friendship and love," Stoick spoke out. Hiccup and Merida smiled to one another as their fathers talked to the people. Elinor, Furgus, Stoick and the other clan leaders had written up the peace treaty with Merida and Hiccup were also included and their suggestions were taken seriously and used accordingly.
"This will go down in history," Furgus stated. "All this has come about because of a brave princess and compassionate Viking," this made the two teens blush. "Now it's time to celebrate," a huge cheer came forward from the crowd.
The celebrations started the very next day, more food and drinks were organised for the guests. The dragons became popular with the Scots especially the children. Hiccup, Merida and the other dragon riders showed them the dragons powers and explained about each dragon in turn.
"It's ok, he's maybe a dragon but he's really gentle," Merida soothed at a little girl, she was looking wide eyed and she appeared to be rooted to the spot, She was taking in the apparently scary sight of the night fury. The little girl took a step closer to Merida's skirts, Merida then stroked the dragon head. "See, you try," the little girl nervously placed her hand next to Merida's hand and Toothless purred to the girlgiggled.
Meanwhile Snoutlot was posing to a group of teenaged girls. "Yeah. I'm a hottest Viking. I fought a few fights, faces some challenges and I beat up the eyes of a huge dragon. Yeah I'm am on fire," he boasted.
"Fire," one of the girl said eyes widened.
"Yeah as hot as fire," Snoutlot said agreeing.
"No you're on fire!" Another girl cried pointed at him. At first, he was confused but he then noticed he was on fire! Hoodfang had lit him up. Screaming, he ran to a barrel full of water, jumped in bottom first, sighing with relief as he cool down.
Later in the evening a banquet was held the hall, Everyone ate, drank, there was dancing and the guests made merry. Astrid and her friends sat at a table waiting for Hiccup and Merida to arrive.
"Mmmmm, this is so good," Fishlegs said enjoying a lamb leg.
"So much flavour," Ruffnut added before munching of chicken.
"Hiccup said the food was delicious here, mostly for flavour," Astrid said.
"I believe Hiccup spend the whole time enjoying all this lovely food without us," Snoutlot commented before putting some vegetables in his mouth, "just not fair."
Astrid rolled her eyes, she then heard someone clearing their throat. The friends looked over to see a dark hair boy.
"Hi I'm Ryan, one of Merida's friends," he said. Nobody knew what to say but Astrid said,
"I'm Astrid, err nice to meet," she said in answer.
"My pleasure, you know, for a Viking you really are quite beautiful," young Macintosh said.
Even though there wasn't much to him but she felt a blush grow from her neck to her cheeks. Next they heard someone else clearing their throat in announcement of their arrival, Astrid and Ryan looked around, then found wee Dingwall next to Ruffnut.
"Hello. I was enchanted by your beauty and would you care to dance," wee Dingwall asked Ruffnut. Her answer, a punch in the face. She wasn't looking for a romance and she had said no the Viking way.
"Oh what a woman," he murmured happily just before he fell down. Some of the men assisted the young lord to a room to rest.
Hiccup appeared, he took in the scene of everyone before going down the stairs. Toothless was waiting at the bottom of the stairs, he petted his dragon as his friends joined him.
"About time you showed up," Tuffnut said.
"What's with the new finery, you're getting the royal treatment," Snoutlot commented.
Hiccup was wearing a new outfit of a green shirt with gold embroidery, on the sleeves. Brown trousers and a cloth vest with gold embroidered with dragons. Even his prosthetic leg had been polished.
"Yeah, the queen gave me these, they are nice and couldn't say no to the queen," Hiccup told them, rubbing his neck.
" Makes sense, I heard she could bring grown men to their knees," Astrid said.
"She's scarier than Stoick is," Tuffnut said.
"That I want to see," Ruffnut added.
Astrid and Toothless glanced up and smiled, Hiccup noticed this and turned around saw why they were smiling. There, standing on top of the stairs was Merida, every part a true princess. She was wearing an emerald green dress that had her famous sleeves. The dress showed a white square on her chest with a golden trim as well as on her sleeves and the bottom of her dress which had bears on it. She also had on a golden sash and of course her hair floated freely as it usually is.
Merida smiled down to them before walking down, she glanced over to the party, She never thought this moment would ever happen. Everything went right, everyone was happy and safe. Peace had come to their people and now she could be with Hiccup at last. Suddenly she stood on the dress and tripped. She fell toward but Hiccup was quick and he caught her in his arms.
"Are you ok Mer?" Hiccup asked her. Holding her like a bride.
"I'm fine, Hic, now you're here," Merida reassured him. Hiccup placed her on her feet.
It was then that young Macintosh cleared his throat and walked up to the couple.
"It's nice to finally meet you, Hiccup." He said holding his hand out to Hiccup who took it and they shook hands. "We heard a lot about you," the Viking's face dropped a little.
"Ur, how much?" Hiccup asked Merida, dropping his hand.
"Notting to worry about," Merida reassured him linking her arm with his.
"Well we three are happy for you two and I hope to get to know you more," Young Macintosh said with a nod. Suddenly young MacGuffins began talking, even know no one understood. That's when Penelope spoke.
"He said he wonder what kind of dragons there are and if you'll allow us to have some?" Penelope explained and young MacGuffins nodded in agreement. Already people had asked if they could have dragons. Hiccup and Merida had brought this up when the treaty was being written and Stoick had agreed that they would bring Dragons to the tribes.
"Well we are in talks about it," Merida stated.
"But we need the lords to see which dragons would live well in your homes," Hiccup finished. The young men understood, Hiccup hoped to have a good friendship with the young lords. Hiccup and Merida then heard music, Hiccup he offered his hand to Merida.
" Shall we?" Hiccup asked.
"We shall," Merida answered and the two began to dance. Toothless and the other watched them, okay for the, they were in their own little world, this was their reward, they were together. Toothless and the teens were happy for their friends.
They weren't the only ones watching the couple dancing. Their parents were chatting about trading when Gobber pointed to them.
"They do look happy, do they?" Gobber said smiled warmly.
"Aye, they do," Stoick answered "still can't believe they kept it a secret for a long time,"
"Knowing them and hearing about Hiccup, I'm not surprised," Furgus said taking a sip of his drink. "Taking on a monster like this Red Death, he's fearless and clever."
"And your daughter face a literal demon bear, now that is impressive, she is definitely a true warrior". Stoick commented.
"I have to agree with that. A good match I would say," Elinor said as her eyes followed the young couple around the dance floor.
"I'll drink to that," Furgus cheered and toast with Stoick and Gobber. "My question is, how did Merida suddenly become a good dancer?" Furgus question still flabbergast by his daughter moving gracefully across the floor.
"Happiness dear," his wife answered with a knowing smile to him.
"Aye, happiness," Stoick said. The two gave a respectable nod. Shortly later Elinor found Hiccup and Merida slow dancing, hugging each other close. She didn't want to disturb them but it was getting late and they both still need sleep.
"Mother. What are you doing?" Merida asked when she saw her mother..
"Just checking on you too," Elinor said as Hiccup and Merida continued slowly dancing.
"Well we're in the middle of something," Merida said as they circled.
"Oh what is it about?" Elinor asked amusingly.
"Oh we're been talking about bringing some of the dragons to here and teaching the people how to live with them," Hiccup answered when he faced her. " we're aren't quite there yet, we still got to go through some things."
"Oh like what?" the queen then asked wondering if it was what they were talking about.
"Oh about finding perfect habitats, fire-proofing, dragon stables. You know making life as easy as we can for everyone," Hiccup explained still turning.
"Oh well, knowing you're the dragon expert, we probably need to discuss this properly," Elinor replied.
"Mother!" Merida said with a look that clearly said "can you let us be," .
"All right but you two need to sleep soon," Elinor said nicely. She knows her daughter wanted to some time alone, so she moved away they definitely deserve it, she thought.
Early the next day, Hiccup and Merida were walking about the courtyard. At first, it felt strange openly holding hands in public but it also felt great now that their relationship was out. As they journeyed, they starting noticing a change with the people. Seeing a Viking man was helping a Scottish woman by carrying a basket of apples, they chatting happily as they walked, then saw a Scottish man giving a Viking lady flowers which she gratefully took. Merida and Hiccup could see other Viking and Scottish people starting to find connections with each other.
"It looks like our happiness is spreading to everyone already," Hiccup commented with a smile.
"Aye, I like it though," Merida added, smiling as she lent into Hiccup.
"Me too," Hiccup replied as they rested their heads together. Soon they move to near the stable. The young Viking took a moment before saying "so.."
"So…?" the redhead repeated stopping to look at Hiccup.
"Well do you think…we can be official," Hiccup asked nervously.
"Hiccup! I thought we agreed…" Merida said but Hiccup quickly said
"No,no,no. Not marriage. Still not ready for that!" Merida sighed a little in relief.
"So what then?" She asked curiously.
"Well what I want to say is….(he paused)…will you be my girlfriend?" He said quietly and sweetly. The princess's checks warmed with a blush. Still not quite used to all things relationship wise but she was learning and she knew she wanted to be with her best friend forever.
"Yes. I would love that," Merida said nodding as he eye's teared up. Hiccup kissed her and held her close, she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back. Then Toothless and Angus peeked from the Stable (the Dragon was hanging out with the Horses) happy for their friends getting together at last. As they release each other from their embrace Merida realise something. "The necklace" she checked her neck and she remembered. "I remembered my dad swinging his sword, he said, I protected you and he cut it and it fell into the fire," she explained touching hr forehead"I'm sorry."
"Hey, hey. It's ok," Hiccup said soothingly "it's ok, well I have planned to give this for your birthday but I think it's the perfect time" He said then before a pouch from his pocket. Hiccup gently took Merida's hand which she was having déjà vu moment. The Viking place it into her hand. She opened the pouch and took out a pendant but made out of metal. It was beautiful, engraved with a bear and a dragon. There was also gemstones imbedding, a blue gem in the bear's eye, a green gem in the dragon's eye and a red gem right in the middle between the two creatures.
"Oh Hiccup, it's absolutely beautiful and it's symbol of us." the redhead said tears seeping from her eyes.
"Glad you noticed and it is special because there's only two in this world," he answered and withdrew a necklace from around his neck, he was wearing the same pendant. Merida couldn't help but smile, they were perfect a symbol of them and their clans.
The princess put her new necklace on before Merida and Hiccup joined Toothless and Angus who were sitting on hay bails. Enjoying each other's company as they watched the world go by.
"Hic, ever wanted to freeze a moment. So it can last forever," Merida suddenly said looking up at the sky.
"Yeah, all the time. Mostly the happiest moments, Why do you asks?" Hiccup asked.
Merida looked back to her boyfriend. She took a moment before answering "pretty soon, you and your tribe will be heading home. I know we'll be able to be together again but it'll be a long time."
"I get it. To be honest, I don't like it when we're not together." Hiccup said looking down.
"Me too, I heard of couples who lived apart don't last long, that worries me." Merida hugging herself. " I can only think the best thing for us. It's us to live together."
"Yeah I understand but also I'm scared if we do, it might be too soon…" he trailed off. Merida understood what he meant, all these pros and cons made things more complicated. "And I don't want to separate you from your family," he added knowing he and Merida didn't want to be away from their homes.
Merida groaned in frustration. "Why is love so complicated?"
Hiccup agreed but didn't want his girlfriend to be upset. He took her hand with his and wiped her tears with the other.
"Merida, I don't really know the first thing about being in a relationship but what I do know is that yes love is complicated but that doesn't mean it's unattainable. Yes we may be at each other's throats, yes we mite want time alone and yes, we mite fight over the most stupidest things in the world. It won't stop us from being a shoulder to cry on if our parents are annoying us. It's won't stop us from travelling toward rain or snow or even lightning storms (Merida smiled at that) it's won't stop us from building a happy life we dream of. I know it'll be hard but it doesn't mean we can't try." Hiccup explained softly.
"For someone who never been in a relationship, you're surprisingly good at reassuring a girl," Merida said feeling reassured by his words.
"Well that's something from the girl who turned her mother into bear so she won't be a relationship," Hiccup replied.
Merida grinned at that before they shared another sweet kiss.
"Maybe we need to speak to our parents, maybe they will help find a a solution," Merida suggested, knowing their parents would know more about relationships that they did.
"You're right," Hiccup agreed. They stood up and hand in hand, they searched for their parents. The couple find them chatting on the games field.
"Mum, dad,"
"Dad. Can we talk."
Elinor, Furgus and Stoick looked in concerned. They all made their way back to the castle, there would be more privacy there, they went to a private room. Astrid, Snoutlot, Fishlegs, the twins and the triplets had followed them and when the door was closed they all put their ears to the door, the strained their ears trying to work out what was being said.
"Anyone heard anything?" Fishlegs asked but everyone just shushed him.
"What are you lot doing?" They turned to see Gobber, tapping his good foot. Waiting for an answer.
"Ur well," Astrid replied looking panicked.
"We're not listening to their conversation to know what going on," Snoutlot blurted out which caused Astrid placing her forehead on the door. The other groaned and even Harris kicked Snoutlot on the leg.
Gobber, couldn't be mad at them for being curious for he also wondered what they were talking about.
On the other side. Merida and Hiccup sat at a round table across from their parents with the Night Fury sat near the teens as they talk.
"Ok me and Mer been thinking about our future," Hiccup began.
"We want to keep the spark going but if we do live together, we're afraid we'll end up growing apart from each other. What do you think we should do?" Merida asked them, feeling Hiccup's hand squeezing her hand reassuringly.
"We know if one of us move, we would be homesick. So we don't really know what to do?"Hiccup added.
"This is very grown up of both you to ask us," Elinor said to the young couple.
"Every partnership will have its challenges, different for everyone but your situation isn't normal." Furgus explained surveying himself on what he knew.
"Making sure to keep your love alive is a challenge of it's own. Yes, it's good to be close but you need time on your own, space for yourself, the things that you enjoy, other relationships that are important to you." Stoick shared with words, thinking toward his time with his wife.
"But, the one thing everyone can see it's how melancholy you are when you're apart, Seeing you Merida like that just breaks my heart. It's like having half a person", Elinor replied.
"Same with Hiccup," Stoick added remembering the lost look on Hiccup's face. How down his son was, how quiet he was but he remembered how angry Hiccup became when Stoick threatened to hurt the Scottish clans. Thinking about it, Stoick would have done the same thing, especially for the one that he treasured.
"Even if one of you move, I don't know which one or when we'll see you." Furgus asked not knowing how it will work.
"Maybe they could be here for a month and the next month in Berk. But then travelling would take a toll sailing here and there," Elinor spoken her thoughts.
"You've forgot about the dragons dear," her husband reminded her.
"Oh, I'm still not used to that," Elinor said.
Stoick had noticed the uncomfortable look on the young couples faces. They obviously not sure what to do, Stoick just wanted to make things as easy as possible for the young couple and then, an idea came to him. "I have it." he declared standing up.
"Have what dad?" Hiccup asked, wondering what his dad was going to say.
"I remember a long time ago, someone from our tribe would go and stay in a fellow tribe to keep the peace between them and send news for of any events. We this haven't had any on doing this work since the dragon attacks and the other tribes became quieter. Hiccup, we'll make you an ambassador."
"Ambassador?" Hiccup repeated. Look at his girlfriend before turning back to his father. "You're sure?"
"I am, if it means you'll be with Merida, I'll be happy knowing you're happy," Stoick said putting his hand on his son's shoulder patting him on the back. Both father and son shared a nod to each other.
"Maybe I should stay in Berk. It's the most wonderful place I ever been." Merida suddenly said, standing up. She didn't want to separate Hiccup from his dad after what the Vikings been through,"
"No Mer". Hiccup in shock, standing from his chair. "I know you love Berk but I also know you'll miss your family too much." He said taking her hands.
"Hic, I can't separated you from your dad," Merida replied hanging her head.
"Oh dear. We won't get any way if you two are worried everyone's feelings," Furgus interrupted which made both teens laughed, seeing that he was right.
"Furgus!" His wife shouted tapping her hand on his arm gently.
"Calm down woman." Furgus replied, "It's ok to be a bit selfish."
Stoick turned to the Princess before saying "It's fine Merida, this place would suit him more and I know you would take care of him." He wanted to reassure her.
Suddenly Merida jumped and hugged The Viking chief. Stoick was taking a back but he happily returned the gesture. Hiccup then heard his dragon growling sadly, looking over, Toothless hung his head clearly upset. Hiccup knows exactly why.
"Toothless, why are you sad for?" Hiccup said kneeling to his best friend. "You're been staying with me, bud." Hiccup added which made Toothless overjoyed. "Yeah, of course I'm not leaving my best friend alone", Merida joined them as Toothless licked his trainer.
"Aye, I think you'll love life in the castle," Merida said rubbing the Night Fury.
"A Dragon! In the castle!" They heard Elinor exclaim, clearly not sure about having a dragon in the castle.
"Oh mum, you of all people, you should be fine with a huge black creature roaming around the castle." Merida answered giving her mum a knowing look. The queen returned a knowing smirk. Knowing what her daughter meant. Then Toothless walked carefully up to the queen, he bowed his head to her. Elinor was amazed by his gesture, Elinor reached out her hand and rubbed his head which cause Toothless to purr, Elinor couldn't help but smile at the dragon.
Suddenly the doors burst open. Everyone turned to see the group of eves dropping teens on the ground, only Astrid and the triplets standing with Gobber.
"Urr. They were wondering how it was going," Gobber admitted while the teens scrambled to get their feet.
"Well, we came to an agreement," Furgus said.
"Aye we have, we will tell you the details," Stoick told his friend. The grown up chatted whilst the teens listened eagerly. Hiccup and Merida watched them from a far, taking in the moment.
"Still can't believe we did it," Merida said watching their parents laughing.
"Yeah I know, I thought it was an impossible dream," Hiccup added, seeing Merida's brothers playing with the teens.
"I know but we made it possible,"
"Yeah but we are about to make a big change in our lives," Hiccup added, both smiling at one another.
"So what will our next adventure will be?" Merida then asked.
"Ur..maybe we need to take a break after all this," Hiccup replied a bit worried.
"I get it, but we both seem to find trouble anyway," Merida commented.
"Yeah but I'm glad to have you with me," Hiccup said gently taking Merida's hand and looking into her blue eyes.
"Me too, with you by my side. I'm ready for anything." Merida replied, loving Hiccup's green eyes. Thanking the heavens and the wisps for bringing him into her life.
Seizing the moment, the two shared a kiss. The world completely disappearing as they wrapped their arms around each other. Hiccup picked his princess up and spun her around. It didn't last long for the young man as he lost his balance and nearly fell over. He placed Merida back on her feet.
"I'm sorry," Hiccup apologised.
"It's fine, you'll get the hang of it someday." Merida reassured him. They then noticed everyone watching them. Some laughed softly while others smiled at them, happy for the young couple. Merida and Hiccup quickly recovered laughing along with the others.
A week flew by as Hiccup finished unpacking his things in his new room. He placed pictures of his home above his desk, Toothless and Hiccup took a step back to check the room. It was the same room he had been staying in but now really felt like his. Merida soon joined them, seeing her boyfriend's tools, pencils and a stone slab for Toothless. She then told them they needed to hurry it was time to see off the boats. The people of DunBroch came to the dock to say goodbye to Stoick and the others. Some of the Vikings decided to stay in Scotland and some Scots wanted to move to Berk which the Vikings allowed. As boats were being loaded, families were saying goodbye to those who were moving. Astrid and her teens said farewell to their new friends, Astrid hugged Merida before she told her friend, "Take good care of them,"
"I will, I'll keep them safe." Merida reassured the blonde hair girl. Just then the girls noticed Stoick hugged his son who was groaning in pain. "We should help!" she said as Stoick placed his son down.
They waved as the ships sailed off, the teens and their dragons flew above. Merida, Hiccup, Toothless and Angus had climbed to the top of a hill to watch the ships and dragons. Merida felt the wind on her cheeks and glanced over to Hiccup who wanted to kiss her but he couldn't reach her while she was on Angus. Toothless noticed this and wanted to help, stand on his hind legs so Hiccup was the right height. The Princess smiled before they kissed. When they finished, they both raced towards the forest and on to the have a new adventure. I could say they got married, had children and lived happily ever after but that is for the future. Right now, Hiccup and Merida were happy being wild and free as the wind.

Merida and Hiccup's Story
Chapter 14-a Fight for peace
"I can't take it, let us out!" Tuffnut yelled as he rattled the bars with a cup.
"Would you quit it! They won"t do anything even if you beg," Snoutlot said dismissively, he had been sitting in a corner quietly. None of them knew how long they had been in the dungeon for, even though it was only few hours. Astrid was looking around at Snoutlot, Fishlegs and the twins were before trying to look over into the cell where Hiccup was in. The boy had curled up, his head buried in his legs. The others heard him crying, they understood why.
"Hiccup," Astrid began.
"Don"t say it!" Hiccup said.
Astrid paused before asking "What do you think I going to say?"
"That I was a fool, who was too stubborn to think we could change everything. That Merida and I would have a happy life together!" He explained, letting his tears roll.
"Well first, no that wouldn't going to say and Second, you're not giving up. Are you?" Astrid replied. Hiccup took a moment to think, he felt everything was lost. Soon their fathers and the warriors would fight to the death and they couldn"t stop it.
"I don't know how to fix this and I don't know if I'll see Merida again," Hiccup explained.
"Hiccup, I'm not sure how but we can only hope!" Astrid said.
"Yeah, a miracle to brake us out would be perfect right now" Tuffnut said but not in a hopeful way. Astrid sighed, as she sat down, Hiccup looked up at the barred window, trying to think of something, anything to escape and thinking of Merida he said,
"I hope you're alright Merida,
At the same time, Merida was crying uncontrollably, she buried her face in her bedsheets. She couldn't believe it was happening again. Her dad was going to kill Hiccup and it was her fault. She also was angry that her mum as just stood there and did nothing. She slowly sat up and took a deep breath she got herself to the floor and lifted her head, she wasn't going to sit here and let people be kill-especially Hiccup. She needed to do something.
Merida wiped her face and grabbed a large plate. A guard was posted outside her door, she moved by the door and screamed "HELP, HELP ME A VIKING IS IN HERE!
It did the trick. The guard burst in, looking around frantically. Merida raised the plate and
Bang
The guard was knocked out cold, Merida dropped the now bent plate and dashed out as quickly as she could. Merida's redhair flashing as she ran, she headed toward the dungeons, she turned a corner and was confronted by guards. The two men turned towards her but before they could speak, Merida ran off down the hall.
"Stop!" one of the men yelled and chased after her but Merida wasn't going to be caught like that, she tried to lose them but they where but they weren't giving up on the chase, Merida started to feel tired, thinking she was about to get caught when she heard a bang, then groans followed by fudge. Merida turned to see the two men were unconscious and Hamish, Hubert and Harris standing over them, holding frying pans.
"Thanks boys!" Merida said grinning to them who returned the gesture. "Know a short cut to the dungeons?" she asked remembering that her brothers knew some secret passageways. They nodded and Hamish and Hubert went over to a torch and held their hands together. Then Harris rushed up and his brothers helped pushed him up, he pulled torch down til it clicked and a wall opened. "Yes, I owe you boys the biggest cake ever made!" The triplets smiled at this and the four of them rushed down the steps.
The Viking teens were more than surprised when the wall of the dungeon started to move. Hiccup stood up watched with the others and he felt his heart leap it when he saw Merida walk through the opening with her brothers.
"Merida!" he cried, tearing up. Merida ran over to him, hugging him through the bars. "I so happy to see you!"
"Me too. You should thank my brothers!" Merida replied as the boys found the keys the cells.
"Oh, make sense," Astrid commented. She remembered Merida tell them about her brothers and how they were mischievous troublemakers which had impressed Ruffnut and Tuffnut.
"Genius!" Tuff said as Harris unlocked the door, Merida opened Hiccups cell and greeted him with a kiss. They heard groans, they turned to see Hamish, Hubert and Harris being grossed out, this made the teens laugh.
"You do this when you're older, you know!"Merida said smirking.
"Ur we have bigger things to think about," Fishlegs interjected .
"Fishlegs is right. We need to stop this war." Hiccup said to them.
"But how, none of them will listen" Snoutlot replied.
"Then we'll make them listen," Merida answered squeezing Hiccup's hand "no matter what they do."
"But they probably be miles away how can't…Tuffnut question but stopped mid sentence, everyone give him a look. it soon dawn on him "oh, right, Dragons."
"The dragons are probably tied up outside, let's go!" Merida said, with that they rush down the tunnel and the secret door closed, just as someone entered the dungeons.
The teens followed the triplets down the passage ways for a long time before they reached the exit that led outside. They squinted their eyes as the sun blinded them as they emerged from the dark passageway. It didn't take long to find the dragons, all tied up with ropes and chains. It was obvious that the Scots had never dealt with them before.
"Amateurs!" Tuffnut murmured as Merida and Hiccup rushed over to Toothless who was under a chain net with his limbs wrapped up. The Night Fury's eyes widened he was purring and pulling at his bindings when he saw his friends.
"We so sorry bud," Hiccup apologised holding his dragon's head. Toothless knew it wasn't their fault. Merida and Hiccup set to work they pulled the net off him, while the their friends and the triplets released the other dragons. Once they were free, the teens quickly checked over their dragons.
"Ok let's go!" Hiccup said as he climbed onto Toothless. The princess was about to climb on but,
"MERIDA!" She turned to find her mother marching toward them. Hiccup and the others were about to panic but Merida wasn't afraid and stood her ground.
"Mum. I don't care what you're going to say. I am going to stop this fight, even if you..,'' but to her and everyone else's s surprised, Elinor reached for her daughter and hugged her.
I'll never hate you for doing the right thing," Elinor said softly. Merida hugged her back so was grateful for her mum's reassured. Hiccup smiled at the warm scene, the two passed ,Elinor then said, "Please come back safely," "both of you," he was taken aback for he thought the queen would despise him but Elinor him without prejudice. The boy nodded then he helped Merida upon his dragon. The queen gathered her sons and watched at a safe distance as the dragon riders took off.
"They're escaping," yelled one of the guards as the men arrived. Elinor looked over as the they started to load their bows.
"Hold your fire," Elinor shouted to them, holding out her hand.
"But, but your.."
"I SAID HOLD YOUR FIRE!" she repeated loudly which made all the men obey. She looked back to watch her daughter and her friends fly off. She said a silent prayer for them all.
Far in the highlands, a the bottom the cliff. Stoick waited for the Scot's to come like a predator waiting for its prey.
"Ur Stoick," Gobber asked his friend when he walked over. "I know you suddenly planned to fight the Scots out of the blue and the Vikings were wondering why?" Gobber waited but Stoick didn't say anything. Another thing he thought was why hadn't Stoick asked Hiccup and Dragon Riders to come and help, they would have a greater chance of winning if they joined them. He didn't understand. Gobber was about to asked that question when they noticed in the distance, they saw figures in the distance it was the Scots.
"They're here!" Stoick said to Gobber. The chief stood up to ready his warriors.
The dragons flew as fast as they could. Hiccup was concentrating on the journey to the battlefield, he felt Merida holding him close. Merida was scared, fearing that they wouldn't reach their dads and everyone would die. Her tears dripped from her eyes she couldn't control them. Hiccup took one of the princess's hand and kissed her knuckles. "We'll find them, Mer. Trust me," Merida squeezed his hand at his comforting words. Suddenly out of nowhere a willow of the wisp appeared, the Night Fury stopped flying and hovered the dragons followed suit and hovered.
"What's that?" Fishlegs questioned.
"Willow of the wisp!," Merida answered, as she said this more wisps appeared, the wisps were leading them away. He remembered them from the first day he met Merida and also that they lead to their fate. He looked over to Merida and she nodded knowing that the wisps were leading them to their fathers.
"Come on let's go!" Hiccup said and they started following the wisps.
"Wait a second, how do we know we could trust those things?" Snoutlot called thinking they were some kind of ghosts.
"Stop being superstitious. There's something more to worry about. Now come on." Astrid yelled back to Snotlout, he and the rest of the Dragon Riders flew to reach Hiccup, Merida and Toothless.
Furgus spotted the Vikings as they appeared coming from the forest. "Right, on my command," said the Bear King. His clan along with MacGuffin, Dingwall and Macintosh clans readied themselves, the young men the former suiters of Merida were nervous and scared to battle the Vikings. Silence fall across the field, waiting for the other to make to first move. At last, both men yelled and the Scots and Vikings charged. A clash of swords and axes filled the air when they collided, some men used their shields as weapons to knock out their enemy. All the time Stoick and Furgus fought forward the warriors, wanting a one on one with the other.
As they followed the wisps, The teens and dragons started to hear the sound of the fight becoming louder, they all headed toward the sound. When the last Willow of the Wisps disappeared, they could see now the battle unfolding in front of them
"How are we going to stop this, there's so many of them," Tuffnut pointed out. They thought for a moment before Merida spoked up.
"If we have the dragons can make a wall of fire along with Bark and Belch"s gas and Stormfly"s spikes. It would slow the down and hopefully block them from fighting,"
"That's brilliant!" Astrid said to her friend.
"Well come on" Hiccup called and with that, all of them, launched themselves down to the battlefield. Sending fire down, blocking the confused Scots and Vikings away.
"Is that?" one viking exclaimed pointing up the dragons. Vikings watched also as the Scots who look on in wonder. Merida smiled at her plan was working but fell when she spotted Furgus and Stoick slowly approaching each other weapons at the ready.
"Hiccup!" Merida cried shaking his shoulder and pointed to show him. In a flash, Hiccup had Toothless dived down and at the right time. He shot a plasma blast between the two leaders causing them to fly backwards through the air. Both men were confused as they got up.
"What in old Haggis was that?" Furgus said rubbing his face. Stoick clearly knew what had caused the blast as he brushed the dust off himself. The men looked up as the night fury flew and landed on a small cliff. Hiccup jumped off then turned and noticed Merida was clearly nervous.
"Mer, are you ready?" Hiccup softly asked, holding out his hand. Merida took a moment and nodded, she took his hand and he assisted her down. The two walked near the edge to face the crowd.
"Before you start yelling and fighting again, we want you to listen and you will listen," Hiccup began, speaking loud enough for everyone to hear.
"We know this feud has gone on for too long." Merida added. "And we're here to stop this madness."
They heard the crowd murmuring mostly saying how ridiculous this was.
"You may think we know nothing because we are young," Merida continued trying to keep a calm as she could "But we have our experiences and ideas and we want to make changes for the better."
"And we're not afraid to admit when we were wrong," Hiccup added "we wanted to share something that we kept from you all, knowing the danger it would to bring but I don't want to be afraid to say, I love you Mer!" Hiccup confess looking at Merida.
"And I love you too Hic!" Merida said softly smiling at one another.
"Oh Hiccup, you really done it this time." Gobber groaned burying his face in his hands, he was joined by the other warriors who grumbled in disbelief.
"I don't think it was an accident but I fully believe it was fated to meet and we were scared that you would try to separate us!" Hiccup stated.
"I was most surprised to fall in love with anyone but now I wouldn't change it for anything!" Merida added.
As they spoke, the young lords had sneaked up the cliff to try to save Merida. Just as they reached to the cliff and they were about to jump attack, when dragons and their riders appeared to front of them. They had readied themselves just in case someone planned a sneak attack.
"We have dragons and we're not afraid to use them!" Tuffnut said to the young lords. Looking at the terrifying faces of the dragons, young MacGuffin and young Macintosh dropped their spears and wee Dingwall changed colour and fainted.
Hiccup carried on, "From the time we have spent together we have realised that we are all cut from the same cloth. Our food, our land, our values and our sense of community.'' he hoped the elders were listening.
"Aye, we are same but our hate blinds us from seeing it. This feud has gone too long, do we even know what started this war in the first place?" Merida question aloud. Hiccup and Merida noticed the adults murmuring, the two felt like they were possibly getting somewhere, they were encouraged to continue. Hiccup carried on by asking,
"How could our ancestors think that fighting would solve everything, how could war and hate and blood solve anything?" The Scots and Vikings looked at another. Thinking over the question there was further murmurings perhaps they could see sense in Hiccups words.
"We don't expect that you all will agree with us, but we are pleading with you to stop this battle, let's not repeat our past, stop the blood shed now before people we know and value and love, die or are maimed."
Merida stepped forward and continue, "We plead with you all to seek a way to peace, to understanding and to love, that's all we ask," Merida said, there was nothing left but silence. No one moved which filled the moment with suspense. The teens wondered what they should say until they saw their fathers march towards each other until they were a just a few feet away from each other. Hiccup noticed Merida shaking, she was visibly scared. Hiccup squeezed her hand to try to reassure her. Stoick and Furgus stood and stared at each other looking menacing and as if fight. Everyone watched, nobody murmured, they were staring at each other for what seamed like an age
Both men took each other's arms and shook it.
"this feud…" Furgus began.
"…is over" Stoick finished.
the warriors took each other by the arms the was a gasp by the armies, soon the solders and the other dragon rider celebrated, high fiveing and fist pumping. Hiccup and Merida couldn't believe it. they done it. the princess started crying with relief, burying her face into Hiccup's shoulder. He held her in a tight hug in his arms, thanking the gods for letting them be together.
Stoick and Furgus looked up at their children, smiling warmly before the men nodded and turned.
"Well, they definitely a perfect match if you ask me!" Gobber suddenly said as he joined them. "If they can put a stop to an endless war, they could do anything!" then the men saw the viking boy and the redheaded princess looking happily at each other and they both leaned in to kiss.
"Aye," Stoick said agreeing proudly as Merida and Hiccup pulled apart and hugged, Toothless purred to his best friends and rubbed his head into Hiccup and then Merida. All three smiled brightly down to the crowd. They knew their love had conquer all today.

Merida and Hiccup's story-chapter 13
Chapter 13-Once and for all
Toothless wandered into the blacksmiths shop and found Hiccup. He had been working since they returned from DunBroch, as usual he concentrating deeply. The dragon watched him until Hiccup accidentally dropped a hot piece of metal. Quickly, Toothless shifted and caught the metal on his head.
Hiccup signed with relief "Hey Bud, it's good thing dragons's scales are heatproof". Using pliers, he picked up the metal and place it back on his workbench. The dragon purred and stopped to listen when he heard footsteps. He turned to see Astrid carrying drinks.
"Hey, do you need these" Astrid said to Hiccup, offering one of the drinks.
"Thanks" Hiccup quickly replied taking it. He gulped the drink down in one, feeling the cool water against his hot throat.
The dragon and the girl glanced worriedly at each other, they both understood each other.
"Hiccup, you would rest. You been working nearly a month" Astrid said, as she tried to see what he was making.
"I know but if I don't keep mind busy, I.." Hiccup replied pausing. He froze as a thought floated into his brain. Toothless could see a dark cloud descend over Hiccup . This been happening more since returning home, he knew it was because Hiccup was worried about his and Merida future. Toothless gently which brought Hiccup back. "I have to be busy or…"
"I know Hiccup but you haven't been sleeping properly and you barely been eating or drinking and it's not just me but everyone is worried about you" Astrid commented trying to look at his eyes but Hiccup had turned toward the table. She noticed tears in his eyes. "I was going to ask you to come flying with us but you needed some time to recover" she advised "go flying, do your drawing, eat until you can't eat no more".
The Viking boy let out a laugh "Thanks, of course I making something of a gift for Merida" he said. Astrid looked at the drawing and items on the table.
"I think she'll love anything you make" Astrid said giving a knowing smile.
"Yeah, as soon as I cool this I'll finish up, I may join you guys around the fire later", Hiccup replied.
"Ok, I take your word on that" Astrid answered giving him a friendly punch on the arm. "See you later", she added before leaving. Hiccup rubbed his arm as his dragon licked his check, which made him grin.
"Thanks for being there for me" he said hugging the dragon's head. As he continued on his project, wondering how his princess was doing.
In DunBroch, was a hive of activity. Highland have started at morning with the other clans, Merida had enjoyed the game this time since no one was going to marry her. Even though she was having fun, Merida was keeping busy, she thought about Hiccup and how he would've enjoyed the festivities.
As she sat at table with her friends for dinner. "Hey Merida" she heard someone asked her. She looked over at young Macintosh then he added "You all right?"
"Yeah, you seem to be in a daze lately" wee Dingwall added before drinking.
"Sorry. I'm not myself these days" Merida answered.
"Are you unwell Merida, have you seen an apothecary?" Asked Penelope, young MacGuffins girlfriend. She was kind and sympathetic girl with short brown hair. Luckily she spoke Gaelic, so she could understand what young MacGuffin said. Merida liked her calm and sweet personality from their first meeting, and seeing them holding hands and sharing kisses, was making her miss her Viking more.
"I'm fine" Merida replied giving a small smile to Penelope.
"Ok" Penelope said before adding "oh I heard you have meet someone".
"Oh aye. He been visiting me every month for a while, but he lives far from here". Merida explained.
"What he's name?" Penelope asked seeing Merida's mood lifted.
"He's name is Hiccup" Merida said, she then heard young Macintosh choking on his drink. She knew he was laughing at his name, she flashed a death stare at him.
"Sorry, I thought we would meet him today" young Macintosh the said.
"He's busy with things back home, maybe next time" Merida said before having a sip of her drink.
"So what's he like?" Penelope continued.
"Hiccup is kind, clever, funny with a dry sense of humour, has crafting skills and a talent with animals" Mer explained with a small smile. She then noticed knowing smiles on the boys and Penelope. "What?"
"Oh nothing, it…you know" Penelope answered a bit of sheepishly but before they heard someone laughing. Merida recognise that laugh instantly as her father's.
"Oh Vikings, those barbarians won't step a foot on this land" it was clear that king had one to many drink as he talked freely. "If they did, then I'll stab them, crush them and tear them in two." The teens suddenly noticed Merida, her head was down hide her anger. The more Furgus talked, the more cross she became "I'll skin them and hang them like scarecrows to warn other Vikings not to dare to tread on our land, especially Stoick the Vast. Hearing this, Merida thought about Hiccup and her friends on Berk. Too many emotions floating through her. "They won't see it coming, those animals would be easy picking it would be a pleasure to slaughter them one by one with my bare hands" Furgus said his men in noisy agreement.
Blinded by rage, Merida got up lifted the table on its side, she screamed as if she was being murded. Soon she came back to her senses and realise what she done. Everyone looked at her in shock and confused. Before anyone could say anything, the princess quickly rushed the room. No one knew what to do but Elinor stood up and calmly went after her. She knew Merida had headed to her room.
"Merida, are you alright?" The queen asked, there was no answer, Elinor opened the door she was shocked, normally she would find her daughter letting out her emotions by attacking her bed post with her sword but now Merida burning her face in her blanket on her bed, wailing. "Oh Merida" Elinor said softly. She definitely knew something was wrong, Elinor gently pulled Merida up and held her close "oh shh, I am here" she hugged her daughter as Merida continued cry, resting her head on her mother's shoulder. Elinor held Merida's hand as she waited for the princess to calm down. It was comforting for the princess, she remained her of when she was a child and when she was scared. When Merida calm down, wiping her tears. Elinor asked "Are you alright? What happened?"
"I'm sorry. I didn't know what came over me" she explained trying to think cleary.
"Merida, I need to ask. Is it something to do with Hiccup" the queen softly.
"NO" she shouted but then added more calmly "yes….I don't know"
"Sweetheart, I can see that you and Hiccup have spark between you too and I know you have strong feelings for the boy" Elinor gently stated. Merida wanted to deny it but she couldn't.
"I….Love him"
Her voice come out weak and shaky. She wasn't used to saying that but she knew that she couldn't hold it any more. She wasn't sure what her mother would say but to her surprise, Elinor hugged her.
"Oh love, it's ok"
"Mum?" The princess asked in confusion.
"I knew, the way the two look at each other is plain to see. You light up even when you say he's name. You light up when he around, I'm happy for my daughter to have someone at your side" Elinor explained proudly.
Merida didn't reply, instead she gave her mum a bear hug. She was glad to hear that from her mum but she had a twinge of guilt.
"But tell me, did you and Hiccup have a fight" Elinor then asked looking at her daughter.
"No, I mean we have been questioning our relationship" Merida said, rubbing her arm.
"Like what
"Well.." Merida wasn't sure how to explain it, mostly the Viking part. She thought for a moment before saying "I'm scared, it's feeling like a wall between us and we can't think of a single way to break it down. I also scared of losing him, he means the world to me. I wish things were different, I wish….he live closer to me"
The queen could plainly see the sadness and pain Merida was feeling. Elinor then took her sleeve and wiped Merida tears away.
"Here, here. Being far away from the one you love is difficult, I worry about your father every time he gone to battle" she said then asked "have you two talked about this",
"Well…maybe" Merida answered . Yes, they did talk about the problem, but not in the way Elinor thought.
"Maybe you should write to him. Tell him how you feel, talk about your fears and worries. It's better to have this conversation for both your sakes", the queen said. Merida pondered for a moment. She rather wanted to talk about it face to face but it was tearing her to pieces and she didn't want to embarrass herself again, she nodded to her mum before Elinor hugged her again. "Right I'll tell everyone your a bit under the weather and you need sleep, I'll make sure nobody will disturb you" Elinor stood up and helped Merida up "I'll being a drink for you, would you like anything to eat?"
"No, don't have an appetite", Merida replied.
"Ok, get comfortable, I won't be long" Elinor asked and kiss her daughter forehead. After Elinor left, Merida changed into a nightgown and wrapped a tartan shawl around her shoulders and hugged to the shawl to herself. She then looked over to the box that held Hiccup's letters, pondering over her mum's advice. She decided to write a letter. The redhead sat at the window and with a quill and paper. She began to write.
My dearest Hiccup,
I know we talked about our relationship but we need to talk again. I heard people saying rude things about Vikings and all I can think about was you. I lost my temper, tipped over a table and ran out. I know if you and my family knew the truth. Things will get worse, I wish that I wasn't a princess of Scotland and you weren't a Viking. We wouldn't be afraid to be together. I imagine us living in a cottage in the woods, where we make our home and a family. I imagine the happiness and laughter from our children. We could explore the world and no one prejudice would stand in our way.
It's strange now, dreaming of my freedom, doing everything I want but now, I want to share all of this with you. I hope we can find an answer to our problem so we can start our lives together and even if they try to separate us I will never stop loving you for the rest of my life. I know that sounds cliche, but it is true.
I hope you get this letter soon and we can talk this through when I see you again _
I love you_
Merida _
When she finished, Merida place it in an envelope and stamped it shut. She climbed into bed as Elinor returned with a cup of water. The queen gave the drink to her daughter, she noticed the letter on the bed and asked if it " was ok for her to send it off tomorrow". Merida said " Yes", Elinor kissed her goodbye and leave to place the letter with other mail for the next day.
The letter arrived in Berk soon after. The Terrible Terror put it among the other letters. The Viking in charge of sorting out letters, Boothead, was sorting them out, Stoick came in.
"Morning Boothead" he greeted.
"Oh Stoick, surprise to see you" Boothead replied as he turned to the chief.
"Surprised" Stoick asked.
"Yeah, usually Hiccup is down here first thing in the morning. He would ask if there was any letter arrived for him", Boothead explained. Looking toward the letter. "But he has been missing recently"
"Aye, he has been busy recently. Working on something that keeps him up all night, I'm a bit worried about him" Stoick as he scratched his head thoughtfully, Boothead found the right letter.
"Well here's his letter. Give it to him when he wakes up" Boothead said passing the letter on.
"Alright" the chief answered and left. He walked toward his house, he saw his son earlier that morning still asleep. Knowing how tired Hiccup has been lately, he left his son sleep in a little. He then noticed the seal on the letter, it looked familiar. Without thinking he opened it and began to read but the more he read the angry he became.
"So bud, where would we go today?" Hiccup asked Toothless who simply shrugged. "Yeah maybe we'll let the wind take us", Hiccup had just finished his breakfast, he place his bowl and spoon in the sink. Just as the duo turned to the door when Stoick burst in through the door. "Dad?" Hiccup murmured, seeing the anger in his father's face. The giant man marched right up to Hiccup who backed into the table.
"YOU BEEN AMONG THE SCOTS, THE PRINCESS NO LESS" Stoick roared shaking to letter in front of Hiccup before throwing it to the floor. "You lied to me " ,the night fury tried to step in but… "don't you dare" he warned. Toothless know this was personal, but he wasn't going to abandoned his friend.
"Dad, please. It just happened", Hiccup tried to reason.
"Did she bewitched you?" Stoick blustered on standing towering over him.
Hiccup wasn't sure what to do but he wouldn't going to back down "No, no she isn't like that. She's fearless and strong and care for her family…"
"They are nothing like us, they would kill without second thought" Stoick interrupted talking over his son, he wasn't listening to his son he was furious.
"No, dad if you could just meet them, then you'll see we the same" Hiccup tried to reason.
"NO! I should have done this years ago. To put an end to it" stoick raged. It was then dawned on hiccup, Stoick was heading go to Scotland and kill everyone. The boy shook his head as his father headed to the door. Hiccup wasn't to let that happen.
"IF YOU GO AND KILL THEM, I, I NEVER FORGIVE YOU" Hiccup shouted with all of his courage. This makes Stoick pause, he never heard Hiccup raise his voice, to anyone. Hiccup waited hoping his dad would calm down and listen but blinded by rage, Stoick walked out and banged the door shut.
Hiccup dropped to his knees, not wanting to believe what was happening. He picked up the letter and read it, tears welled in his eyes, this was too much! He was feeling differing emotions-rage because of his father's response to the letter, guilt for not keeping their secret better hidden and sadness of the thought of losing Merida. Toothless the dragon wrapped a wing around his friend, Waiting for him to calm down. Soon Hiccup felt better and wipe his eyes and nose. Hiccup then turned to Toothless.
"Come on bud, we need to get the others".
Astrid tapped her foot. She and the other teens and dragons were waiting at one of the highest point of Berk, it has become normal for hiccup and toothless to be late. But she soon noticed Hiccup and Toothless running toward them.
"About time you two ", Astrid said but then she noticed the worry on their faces.
"My dad found out, he heading to DunBroch to attack them", Hiccup explained. Before the teens had time to react, they heard the sound of a horn ringing in their ears. They looked down to the dock as ships were setting off. "We got to warn them" Hiccup said and quickly jumped onto Toothless.
"To Scotland?" Fishlegs then said.
"Are you crazy? Is easy for you go there but what about us", Snoutlot stated as fishlegs, and the twins hopped on their dragons.
"Do you have any better ideas?" Hiccup replied clearly frustrated.
"Let's just get there then we'll see, come on" Astrid said and they all took to the sky. They flew above the clouds so the adults wouldn't spot them, Hiccup hoped they would make good time and beat Stoick. The dragon flew as fast as possible, even when they felt tired and hungry, they pushed themselves. Hiccup saw the sun rising though sleepy eyes, seeing it was next day. He then saw a foggy outline of a familiar land.
"Guys, look. We're here" Hiccup cried making the other riders woke up, growling. They soon were wide awake and they had reached the highlands.
"It's beautiful" Astrid commented as Hiccup led them to DunBroch Castle. Soon they could see the kingdom and also could see the Highland Games on the field. "We need to land somewhere away from the Scots" Astrid said looking around But Hiccup feared that his dad and the other Vikings could turn up at any moment.
"There's no time. We need to just land" He answered. He knew it was going be bad but they needed to find Merida and warn her. Hiccup and Toothless dived down along with the others.
From below, the Scottish clans were enjoying the games until they noticed huge shadows across the ground. They looked up to see creatures they had never seen but they knew what they were.
"DRAGONS" everyone ran like headless chickens. Mothers and fathers quickly grabbed their children just as the dragons landed. The rides heard screaming and people running for their lives.
"What is wrong with these people" Tuffnut said confused.
"Yeah, have they never seen a dragon before" added Ruffnut watching the people around them in disbelief.
Ignoring the chaos, Hiccup jumped off his dragon and turned to the others " Come on the castle is this way". Hiccup, Toothless and the teens ran towards the castle to find Merida, the other dragons stayed and looking around curiously. Stormfly found a tent that was serving cooked chicken and she helped herself, while the people escaped the deadly nadder. Barf and belch had rip a tent down and play tug-a-war while women screamed at the two headed dragon. Hoodfang was sniffing at another tent. The monstrous nightmare's nose went under it, causing a crowd of men to escape as Hoodfang crawled into the tent and Meatlug was enjoying munching coal, rocks and even iron balls.
Meanwhile Merida had been looking towards the window in her room, wanting some alone time when she noticed people shouting and when she looked out she could see the people running in fear. Concerned, the redhead left immediately to investigate.
"What's going on?" Merida asked one of the maids she met in a hallway.
"Dragons, there's dragons attacking the kingdom", the maid explained still panicking.
"Seriously " Merida said to herself, she turned back to the maid "bring as many people as you can to the kitchen until the coast is clear. The young maid nodded and headed to the kitchen. Merida quickly ran, she didn't know why dragons suddenly appeared but she knew she was the only one here to stop them. As Merida ran she turned a corner, she bump into something and fell "Ow", she groaned, rubbing her head.
"Merida", heard a familiar voice, Merida glanced around to see Hiccup who also fallen, he was rubbing his head.
"Hiccup" Merida cried happily, they hugged each other as Toothless and the teens join them.
"Why are you guys here?" Merida asked as the couple parted.
"Just in the neighbourhood" Astrid joked, hoping to lighten the mood.
"Well thank the gods you here" Merida said "There are dragons in DunBroch".
"Yeah that was us, sorry", Hiccup admitted.
"What?", Merida asked bewildered.
"Never mind that. Mer. He knows my dad found out about us and headed here to destroy the kingdom, once and for all", Hiccup explained holding Merida's hand. The princess eyes fill with fear. Hiccup didn't needed to say more, she knew what's happened.
"This is my fault", Merida whispered, feeling tears run down her face.
"No, no Mer. You didn't know that my dad would read your letter, we have to fix it somehow", Hiccup reassuring her, wipeing her tears away.
"And we're here too Mer, you can count on us" Astrid then said showing a confident smile. Toothless purred in agreement and the other grin to her and showed thumbs up. Merida showed them a grateful smile.
"Thanks, right! we need to find my parents", Merida said. They quickly searched and soon found Elinor and Furgus in the main hall, trying to get information from the guards. "Mum, Dad", Merida called out. Hiccup silently told Toothless to stay hidden ,not wanted to cause any more trouble.
"Merida?" Elinor asked then she noticed the others behind her"Hiccup? What are you doing here", they were shocked to see him.
"Nothing mind that", Furgus interupted. There's fire- breathing Dragons out there. Probably everything is on fire by now".
"Don't think that's possible" Fishlegs murmured then hid his helmet and quickly signalled for ruff, tuff and Snoutlot to do the same.
"I'm here to warn you" Hiccup insisted. Making the Royal couple turn to him.
"About what Hiccup", Elinor asked.
Hiccup took a deep breath before saying "Stoick the vast is coming".
"WHAT!" Elinor and Furgus cried and the soldiers and staff were left in silence. The triplets were listening from the balcony.
"Is this true", asked hoping it wasn't true.
"Aye mum" Merida said.
The king turned to the guards. 'Tell the others that the Vikings are coming. Get the lords to plan to and guard our defences", Furgus ordered, the soldiers quickly scattered.
"Wait please, you can't run head first into this" Hiccup protested.
"He right, we need to think another way" Merida added. Both thinking about the outcome.
"Those monsters won't understand anything but this", Furgus said showing them his sword. The teens felt a shiver down their spines afraid of what this king would do.
"Furgus please", Elinor tried to calm him down, seeing rage in his eyes.
"I won't stop till every single one is slaughtered" Furgus declared not hearing what his wife said.
"But your majesty" Astrid interrupted bravely stepped forward. "You don't understand. Hiccup's dad won't stop as well, he…" She stopped, realised what she done.
The King's eyes widened at this. He looked closely at the teen's clothes then at Hiccup. He didn't realise that this boy looked similar to his enemy.
"You liar, you trickster", the Bear king roared and rushed at Hiccup. The boy ran as Merida grabbed her father's arm.
"No, don't hurt him", Merida shouted. She tried to pull him but he was too strong and he flung Merida off to the side. Unknowingly He swung his sword at Merida, Merida wasn't hurt but it caught Merida's pendant and it was sent flying into the fireplace.
"You knew, you knew all this time", Furgus yelled at his daughter. The viking girls helped Merida up. Furgus roared out a warrior cry he was getting to attack. Hiccup shut his eyes but instead of a blow from Furgus he felt a rush of wind and a familiar roar.
"Toothless" Hiccup exclaimed seeing his dragon protecting him. The night fury had knocked Furgus away and stood in front of Hiccup.
The queen, gasped and the triplets stared in disbelief at Toothless, both in fear and amazement. Maudie was standing with the other maids and when she saw a dragon eating the fish, she collapsed in a heap, the others maids rushed to her assistance. The king managed to stand up. Still looking at Hiccup and Toothless. Too much had happened all at once, he couldn't believe Hiccup was a Viking but also his daughter had known and she had kept it a secret.
The king shook his head before saying "Take him and his friends to the dungeon, we'll deal with them when those barbarians are destroyed, and you" he turned to Merida "locked her in her room and make sure she doesn't escape. At once, soldiers grabbed the teens and Merida. Some of them managed to drag the Night Fury away.
"Toothless, don't hurt him please", Hiccup begged, even though he was being pulled by two men.
"No. Listen, we want stop this war please", Merida pleaded but it fall on deaf ears. She was pulled away as her friends were taking to the dungeon, her heart breaking seeing her love treated like a prisoner "Hiccup" she called weakly to him.
"Mer, it's ok. We'll be ok",Hiccup reassured her even know he wasn't sure himself.
Elinor watched everything and couldn't process it. She never thought the boy was the son of Stoick.
"Gather the rest of the soldiers and meet in the planning room", Furgus shouted as he walked out. Clearly focus on his goal, his wife looked at him in concerned. The last time she saw him so serious was with Mor'dun. Elinor started thinking over everything that happened. She would had been upset but she understood why Merida and Hiccup had kept a secret. Elinor also knew that their feelings for each other were real. The queen looked at the pendant burning to ashes, she was now conflicted on what to do. To let history repeat or for things to change.

Merida and Hiccup's story- chapter 12
Chapter 12-struggled and hope
"That was incredible!" Astrid praised Merida as the girls walked from the archery ring.
"You're not so bad yourself" Merida complimented her friend "I can't remember anyone who shoots arrows as good as you".
"Well, I've been athletic since I was 1" Astrid added. The girls had become the best of friends in the short time Merida had been in Berk, sadly Merida was going home tomorrow but she'd had the time of her life. Not only because she was on an island filled with excitement and adventure but also because she loved being with Hiccup who was now out flying with Toothless.
"Oh, my dad always told me I was meant to do archery, because I used to play with his bow" Merida said as they reached the blacksmith's shop. "I wish you and the others could come to DunBroch one day".
Astrid's face dropped, she would like to visit Merida's home land, but it was risky. It was hard enough for Hiccup but Astrid and their friends were more 'viking' than Hiccup so they would be imprisoned immediately.
"Merida, can I ask you something?"
"Aye. What's the matter" Merida asked as she saw Astrid's face change.
"Have you and Hiccup ever talked about if your parents found out the truth, you do know the risks both of you taking?" Astrid said.
"Well, it has crossed my mind but I try to not think about it" Merida replied.
"I'm not being mean, but I just want to you and Hiccup to think of the danger, you both could be executed for betrayal" Astrid explained.
"I know" Merida answered.
"It will start a war…" Astrid continued.
"I KNOW" Merida didn't realise she shouted till she saw her friends face.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to…"
"It's ok" Astrid said softly, placing a hand on her friend's shoulder "I want to protect the two of you. It's a huge risk you're taking".
"Aye, but it's worth it" Astrid could see dream like look in her eyes.
"Yeah, don't stop fighting for your love. It's so rare to find the one " Astrid said.
"Since when did you become a romantic?" Merida joked and both girls giggled. Just then Stormfly trotted toward them. The girls petted the Deadly Nadder dragon who cooed.
"Want to go flying with us Mer?" Astrid asked.
"Sorry but I promised I'd meet Hiccup and Toothless here" Merida replied a bit sad but was relieved see a smile on her face.
"Oh, cool that's fine, we'll be back before the bonfire party" Astrid said "See you then" then the Viking girl held up her arm in front of herself. At first, Merida didn't quite understand but it dawned on her. Merida lifted her arm up and both girls knocked their arms together.
Soon Astrid and Stormfly flew off, Merida waved them off then she returned to the blacksmiths. She entered Hiccup's living quarters, it was a bit messy but still impressive with all the drawings of his inventions. She could see Toothless's saddle, some special weapons and plans to help the dragon adapt to Berk. The Redhead glanced at them admiring Hiccup's drawings, then she came across a notebook. Curious, Merida picked up the book and flicked through it. She saw some things she expected like drawings of Toothless, notes and other information. But when she turned a page, she found a drawing of her, she continued and saw another. They were full of detail and intricacies, some were normal portraits others were she was posing like one of her holding her bow and shooting an arrow.
When she'd had her portraits done at home, she'd felt uncomfortable, tired and itchy in the fancy dresses she'd had to wear. They'd made her look like a different person, but Hiccup's drawings showed who she really was.
"Hiccup" a voice boomed that made Merida jump. Large footsteps came closer, Merida quickly put the book down as Stoick walked in "Hiccup, there you are we…" Stoick stopped at the person who he'd thought was his son, but when Merida turned the Viking was very surprised. "Oh, sorry I thought you were my son".
At first, Merida didn't understand his mistake, until she realised was still wearing Hiccup's helmet.
'Oh, it's fine' Merida replied with a warm smile. Stoick wasn't at all what Merida had imagined, he reminded her of her father. He definitely looked like a man to be taken seriously, although there was something in his eyes, she could see the resemblance to Hiccup.
"I don't mean to be rude, but who are you? You're new around here" the viking man asked, wondering why a girl was in his son's workshop. At first, she wasn't sure what to say eventually said.
"I'm Merida, Astrid's cousin".
"A pleasure to meet you" Stoick said shaking her hand "How's your time been visiting Berk?"
"Oh, it's been the best, everyone's been really welcoming and the dragons are incredible she explained, which made Stoick chuckle, she was so enthusiastic.
"That's my son's doing, we'd still be fighting them, if Hiccup had never befriended Toothless".
"You must be proud of him". Merida commented.
"Aye, I am now. I was too stubborn and proud to listen to him, but we're closer now" Stoick said with affection. "Oh, I forgot to ask, where are you from?"
Merida froze. She obviously couldn't say Scotland, so she said the first thing in her head.
"Bear Valley" she tried to look calm but inside, she was panicking.
"Oh, Bear Valley, guess there's lots of bears on your island" Stoick said which made Merida inwardly sigh with relief.
'Aye we do" she answered truthfully.
"I've faced the few bears in my time. Hiccup was nearly attacked by one if I hadn't saved him…" he looked at the girl wistfully, then added "Well, I'd better be off. See you later at the party".
"I hope so" Merida said, waving goodbye, Stoick waved back and walked right into a pole. The princess tried not to laugh as the chief straightened up and walked on. Just as Merida relaxed, she heard the flapping of wings and glanced toward the door, Hiccup and Toothless had arrived.
"Sorry we're late. We found a lost baby dragon and we managed to find its mum" Hiccup apologised gently taking his sweetheart's hands.
"It's ok, I'll be there on the next rescue" Merida said kissing on the cheek. "Oh, and by the way I met your father".
"WHAT! what did he said to you? Did he ask you anything? Did he find us out?" Hiccup questioned panicking, he eyes filled with worry.
"Hiccup, it's fine. I didn't say anything. We had a chat and then he left" Merida said reassuringly, placing her hand on either side of his face. The boy breathed, then put his hands on top of hers.
"Ok, I don't know what dad will be like if he finds out, so don't be surprised if he goes berserk" Hiccup commented. Merida held his hands and put her head on his shoulder.
'Sounds like my dad. Looks like we're cut from the same cloth" Merida said which made Hiccup smile as they walked out for their next adventure.
As the sun settled, the evening was to hold the first anniversary of peace between the Vikings and the Dragons. It started in the meat hall, the princess sat with Hiccup and the other teens, eating and chatting away. Then Stoick stood in front of all the Vikings, and began his speech.
"My friends. Today marks our first year with dragons. From centuries of fighting, we hunted and we lost so many on both sides. But now, we stand together, fight for each other and now that the Red Death has gone, we have peace. It's all because of my son and his Night Fury. Raise a cup for Hiccup and Toothless" Stoick announced. A chorus of cheers rang out, making the boy and his dragon blush.
"Hiccup and Toothless" Merida cheered. Hiccup smiled at her before kissing her cheek.
Not too long after everyone was outside celebrating around huge bonfire. There was singing, drinking and dancing throughout the night. The dragons joined in by warming themselves around the bonfires.
"Who's next" Stoick shouted. He has been arm-wrestling and was on a 14-time winning streak. Merida was watching him with the others, Hiccup passed her a drink which she took gratefully. "Come on! Are you scared to face me?" Stoick challenged.
"Or if they do, they'll be on your bad side of a week" Hiccup said sarcastically, which made the other teens laugh.
"Have any of you challenged him?" Merida asked, taking a sip.
"Ur no, are you nuts?" Ruffnut said bewildered.
"He breaks your arm in pieces" Tuffnut added pretending his arm was broken.
"Yeah, dad doesn't lose easily" Hiccup said.
"Well then" Merida commented before finishing her drink "let's see" she stood up walked away.
"Merida what? You? and she's gone" Hiccup said staring in shock. He and the other teens quickly ran as the Princess reached the chief.
"I accept the challenge" Merida called out which made everyone turned to look at her.
"Well Lass, come and show your strength" Stoick said showing her a chair.
When the others joined the crowd. They saw Merida sitting across from Stoick, ready for her challenge. Astrid noticed Hiccup's face had turned pale. She patted his shoulder for comfort.
"She'll be fine Hiccup. Merida can handle it" Hiccup smiled, not as sure as Astrid was about her success. His dad and his love gripped each other's hands They were face to face.
"Ready…go" their clenched fists pushed against each other. The elder Vikings cheered for Stoick while the teens cheered for the princess. Hiccup just bit his lip, watching Stoick overpowering Merida, nearly touching the table but suddenly Merida smirked, Stoick and the other vikings mouths dropped as Merida started pushing the chef's arm in the opposite direction. Even though he tried, Merida brought the man hand down. The teens shouted in celebration, Hiccup was more than relieved, he cheered as Merida stood up with both arms in the air in triumph.
"Well, congrats lass" Stoick said holding out his hand. Merida instantly shook it. "You're only the second person to ever beat me".
"Who was the first?" the girl asked.
"My wife" Stoick answered. Merida could see a bit of sadness in Stoick eyes. She knew from Hiccup what happened to his mum, so she understood. "She may have looked frail but she was unstoppable" he added smiling brightly. She smiled in return before her friends crowded around her and Stoick walked off to get a drink.
Astrid offered to grab some drinks, Snoutlout, Fishlegs and the twins went off to find food.
"You'll be the talk the village for a long time" Merida turned to find Hiccup, beaming at her.
"Sorry if I worried you. I couldn't resist a challenge, even if was against your dad" Merida said walking up to her Viking.
"No don't be, I was scared but I need to remember that you're stronger than me" Hiccup said rubbing his neck.
Merida let out a small laugh and saying "Well you have the biggest heart I know of". This made Hiccup blush, just then they heard music started to play.
"May I?" Hiccup asked as he bowed and held out his hand. Merida grinned and curtsied to him before taking his hand.
"Well, I'm not very good at dancing, I'll probably stand on your feet all the time" she admitted as they walked to the where other vikings were dancing.
"Well, we can be bad dancers together" Hiccup casually said. The two began to dance, they both thought would be bumping into other people or stepping on each other feet. But no, Hiccup held Merida close as they moved across the floor, they hopped, clapped and twirled together perfectly. He never thought he could ever dance like this in his life, dancing with Merida felt like a dream. Merida was surprised, she was enjoying this, she thought dancing with a boy was the worst thing she could've experienced. Now, as Hiccup spun her around with one hand, she understood many girls' fantasies of a romantic dance. The world seemed to disappear and their troubles melted away. It was just the two of them, together at their happiest. They didn't realise everyone was watching them. The grown-ups were surprised at this but they could see the chemistry between them as Hiccup and Merida laughed and danced. Toothless watched in pride, he noticed that their love was rubbing off on to other people as they joined in with the dance. Astrid and the others returned, wondering where Hiccup and Merida were at until Fishlegs spotted them.
"Are they already practicing their wedding dance?" Snoutlout joked. Astrid shot him a look but she wanted them to work even though the world was against them. Stoick noticed them too, seeing how close they were. His son and the young lady reminded him of him and his wife when they were young. Happy and carefree, lost in their own private world.
"Only know each other for a few days and they're already love birds" Stoick was dazed by the dancing couple he was brought back to find Gobber next to him, offering a fresh drink. The chief took it and looked back to Hiccup and Merida.
"Thanks, feels like they know each other for years" Stoick said.
'Yeah, like you and Valka. Even though she had a huge compassion for the Dragons. You loved her regardless" Gobber commented "Now I know where Hiccup get his romantic charm from".
"What?"
"Yes. I was carrying some broken metal to the workshop when I happen to see those in the shadows, whispering, then they started kissing, like making out. I never thought he had it in him" Gobber explained, gulping down his drink.
Stoick thought it over, true there were many things about his son he didn't know yet like of course his friendship with Toothless, but he was still learning about Hiccup. So, knowing that Hiccup with someone he had feelings for, was a wonderful thing to see. Especially when he saw Hiccup kiss Merida on the cheek, hoping no one noticed it.
"So, you may have to give him the talk" Gobber noted his confused look. "You know, the birds and the bees" Stoick growled rubbing his forehead. He already knew it would be very bad, Stoick decided to leave his son but he would be there if Hiccup needed help. Stoick grinned as the couple returned to their friends, definitely having a good night.
Very early the next day, Hiccup and Merida got ready for a return trip to Scotland. Merida had put her dress on, thinking if mum saw her in viking clothes, she would freak out. Merida tried to return the clothes to Astrid and Ruffnut but they insisted she kept them. She packed the last of her bags before the girls headed out to meet the boys. Hiccup managed to fastened Toothless's saddle just as the girls arrived on the cliff side.
"Shame you're leaving so soon" Ruffnut said.
"Me too, hopefully I'll manage to visit again" Merida replied hugging her.
"Yeah, you'd better, we need to pick out a dragon for you" Astrid said hand on her hip.
"Who knows" Merida laughed and the two-arm bump together.
"What's that about? Snoutlout asked in confusion.
"It's our thing, when we say hello, goodbye and to celebrate" Astrid answered.
"Just give a high five like everyone else" he said and the girls rolled their eyes.
"Ok, all set. Ready when you are ready Mer" Hiccup said rubbing Toothless's head. Merida said her goodbyes, climbed onto the Night Fury and waved to her new friends. Hiccup, Merida and Toothless took off in the air. Just like last time, it took them 3 days to reach DunBroch. It was night-time we they landed on the outskirts of the castle. Merida looked out to her home, it looked the same as always, but at that moment home seemed different. She realised how much she'd missed it.
Hiccup joined Merida by her side and the dragon joined them.
"At one point, I would have done anything to leave and have my freedom, but now I can't imagine never returning home" Merida confessed. She felt Hiccup's hand slip into hers.
"Me too, I nearly ran away from my home because of everyone wanted to kill dragons, and I had to protect Toothless. Before that, I thought about sailing away, thinking no one would care if I disappeared" Hiccup told her. He felt Merida squeeze his hand and showed him a reassuring smile.
They stood and watched the night sky, when Hiccup glanced over he noticed the melancholy look on the princess's face.
"Mer, what's wrong" Hiccup asked.
"I'm fine".
"No, you're not. Please" Hiccup replied.
Merida shut her eyes, she didn't want to talk about it but they needed to discuss it. She took a breath before answering.
"Hic, do you think we have a future together?"
Hiccup was taken aback. Yes, it was question that had been on his mind but he didn't want to bring it up.
"Yes of course".
"Even though we are from different worlds. Even if it takes our kingdoms…our families..." Merida continued on the brink of tears.
"Merida please calm down" Hiccup said calmly pressing his hands on her shoulders
"We need some time to figure…." But Merida pushed his hands off.
"LISTEN TO ME!" Merida screamed, hot tears flooded from her eyes. "If our parents found out. They'll never listen to us. There'll be nothing but blood, death and hatred because of us. I never want to hurt my family again, we've been through hell and I don't want to lose them. I love you Hiccup. I will always love you but there's this huge mountain of hate between us and I don't have a clue to get through it" Merida covered her head as she sobbed.
Hiccup could feel the tears running down his face. Everything she said was breaking his heart, seeing Merida so upset. Instantly, he wrapped his arms around her. Merida buried her face in his shoulder and held him close, for fear he would vanish.
"I'm sorry" he whispered. Toothless groaned in sympathy, he came over and wrapped his wings around the couple. They stayed like this for a while until the Viking softly kissed Merida's forehead. "Mer. I've had those thoughts running through my head since our first week. True, I haven't any ideas, but we can't loss hope. If we could fix things that are 100 times bigger than us. That doesn't stop us from trying." Hiccup told Merida rubbing a strand of hair from her face "And even if things don't go to plan. It's not stopping us because I don't want to live my life without you Merida. I dream of you and me having a full life with adventures and marriage and maybe babies".
"You…you want children" Merida asked. He blushed, he wasn't sure if she wanted kids, knowing her views marriage.
"Yeah, I've being wondering what our kids maybe like" he managed to say.
"I want them too" Merida said a bit shyly "I've being thinking about babies. I never thought much about it, but after meeting you. I began thinking about it more".
The two shared a loving smile, Toothless could sense they'd calmed down, he unwrapped his wings and backed off to give them some space.
"I'd like to give our children the freedom and the happiness they deserve" Merida added.
"We'll make sure that dream becomes reality" Hiccup said looking into her eyes "No matter who stands in our way".
"You definitely know what to say" Merida said laughing softly.
"Well, I do my best" Hiccup said grinning which made his princess smile.
"Do you think we'll end up running away together?" Merida then said.
"Wouldn't be surprised, let's try making peace between both sides somehow" Hiccup said rubbing his neck.
"Aye, I just… I don't know if they will" Merida told him still worrying.
"Hey, hey. It's not like you to worry. I understand but I don't want you to be worried" Hiccup reassured her "I promise, we'll figure it out" That was one of the reasons Merida loved him, he tried to make a difference in the world, it gave her hope and incentive for them to keep fighting for their love. "No matter what happened, we'll get through this".
Merida hesitated for a moment until Toothless gently pushed her closer to Hiccup. They looked over to the dragon and smiled at him.
"I believe you Hiccup" Merida said. The two kissed more passionately than before. The dragon sat on the side as the continued. Soon after, they went to sleep against Toothless. When morning came, Merida decided to stay and see them, before heading home.
"I wish you could come to the games. You'd enjoy them" Merida said pushing her bags aside.
"Yeah, I'm not a fan of physical games, it might be riskier being around more people" Hiccup explained before walking to Merida. "I promise to make it up".
"Oh, like what" Merida said playfully.
"Well, you know, an adventure and get into a bit of trouble and maybe something more" Hiccup said which did made Merida giggle before they kissed. They noticed Toothless raised him eyebrows at them.
"Oh, wee lamb" Merida commented, walking away to the Night Fury, gently holding his face "You want your buddy to yourself, do you?" Toothless purred which she took as maybe.
"Well, you're a true friend Toothless, that will never change. So, I trust you to take care of him".
Toothless responded by licking her, causing Merida to giggle. Hiccup gave his friend a scratch behind the ear and gave Merida another kiss. Soon Hiccup and Toothless were saying their goodbyes and flying off back to Berk. Even though they seemed ok, inside their thoughts were filled of their future. It scared them but they knew their love would withstand decades of hate, whatever
