Reki's Magic explained

I finally have my computer and will be posting more frequently now! anyway, this is a lore drop that i thought i already posted but apparently not.

I’ve come across a few things that people have been asking about Reki, so I’d like to clear up a few things. First off, I made a lot of things up for the sake of the plot lol. Akar is a man, and he along with Poison Cry are fake/made-up, simply there as part of Reki’s backstory. I didn’t think i’d have to worry abt it, but just in case anyone was wondering, Reki is a girl, goes by she/her/hers, and is straight, although boys aren’t really on her mind very much. Homegirl has other things to worry about.

Second, the way Reki’s powers behave against other magic types.

It’s a really interesting concept that I'm actually quite proud of, and her powers are one of my favorite things to talk about when it comes to her.

Lucy: this was actually one of the first things I thought about when creating Reki’s powers and abilities. When activating her GP (glow powers), spells and ME (magic energy) bounce off her and return to its caster. However, since Celestial Spirits are beings made up of ME, nothing really happens if she were to come into contact with any of them. For example: Reki activates her patterns, Loke places a hand on her shoulder, nothing crazy happens. It’s only when she activates her force field that things start to happen. If a CS were to touch or come into contact with the dome, they would ultimately have to return to the Spirit Realm to heal. Technically, Reki could break apart the very fabric of a Celestial Spirit bc her force field breaks down and nullifies ME.

Gray: this was another one that i started thinking about early on. I actually have a scenario of her sparring with Gray, and i can’t wait to write it all out. Now, when sparring with Gray, she would have to play a lot of defense bc while Gray’s ice is made up of magic, it is still a physical item that can injure her. The properties of Maker Magic makes for really interesting ideas and theories of how Reki’s powers would behave. She can still be hit by an Ice Make: Lance, but once hit, the ice itself would return to Gray, leaving Reki with just the impact. Her body kind of separates the ME, but still takes damage from the force of the blow. Similar with her force field, the ice would simply dissolve as soon as it hit the dome.

Juvia: while on the subject of Maker Magic, Juvia’s water magic is pretty cool too. If Juvie were to send wave to Reki while her patterns were glowing, Reki would stay dry, but feel the impact of the wave itself. 

Gajeel: fighting with Fairy Tail’s resident metal man is certainly much more dangerous for Reki, but here’s how it would go. If Gajeel were to attack with Iron Dragon Roar, the spell would ofc bounce off of her and hit him instead. This goes for any of the Dragon Slayers. On a scarier note, if Gajeel were to attack Reki with Iron Dragon Lance (when he turns his arm into a jagged sword), she would earn a small cut, but her powers would separate the ME from Gajeel and mainly just get hit with his hand. With her force field, the minute his metal touches the dome, it ofc dissolves. But, if he was using Iron Dragon Club and extending his arm, the metal appendage would disintegrate and shrink back to his normal arm.

Erza: this one is a bit trickier since i haven’t thought about it much, but I’ll do my best. Erza’s armor and re-quip clothes are real and not made of magic, so Reki can still very much get a beating from Erza. The only way for Reki to hold her own against Erza is to play defense (maybe?) and hope for the best.

This kinda sums up how Reki’s powers behave, and anything i didn’t cover will probably be showcased or written abt in the story.
