Slow Writing, Sudden Publishing

So, I have been lazy for a week or two. Not much progress in writing, however, my beta has been more active. She helped me go over a chap I had sent to her (Chap 5 of Hermione is an owl) and I just publish it.

I'll try to write something in the upcoming days, but meanwhile here is this new chap. Also, new art.

Minor update

So, as some of you know, I've been working on Hermione is an Owl chap. It turned out longer and more challenging than I initially thought, but it's finally done. I already sent it to my beta.

I'll probably take a small break from writing these days, but by next week I expect to give a look at a scene from chap2 of Power Rangers fic that has been bothering me for some weeks, and also I hope to start Halfblood Weasleys chap 9.

Son of the Legend new Chapter

So just published the chap 4 for this one. It's the last of chapter of my slow introduction to this fic before the interesting stuff kicks in. It has been long, but I wanted to have all 4 of my main POVs in the spotlight before things started.

New chapter Updates

So I just published 2 new chapters recently. The first one is the first chap of my new story (another new story, I know). The story is called the Unity Cup, and it should be a fun ride full of Quidditch. There might be some pairing hints, but since this is set in third year, I don't expect full blown couples for people in Harry's year (at least not in my planning so far). If something happens do be warned, I always pull the canon pairing endgames. Here are the links:

I rarely take place in shipping discussions, but I want to chip in with the idea of who I think these characters are.

Harry does get emotional, but Ron is usually quicker to get emotional.

Harry was indeed more level headed here. But that doesn't mean he didn't care about Hermione. He wanted to save her and escape.

Based on the above, I have to say, Harry would have NOT offered himself to die in Hermione's place, surrendering. He is always looking for an escape. Harry doesn't surrender, no matter the odds. (That was the whole point of the Jesus sacrifice at the end). He would have happily died in Hermione's place, but he would have done so fighting to free her, not in a "take me instead" situation.

Harry would have indeed died saving for Hermione. But he would have also died saving Remus, Luna, Professor McGonagall, Seamus, Aberforth, a random muggle, Malfoy, and just about everyone.

I have my opinions, but beyond this all is more speculative, and I didn't want to fall in shipping wars, just felt the need to clarify the characterization here. Aside from that, everyone is allowed their ideas.

The fandom likes to talk about how Ron was willing to let himself get hit by the Cruciatus curse in order to prevent Hermione from getting tortured. What happens afterwards, though, is that Romione shippers argue about how Harry hadn't done anything like that. After all, he was just asking Ron to shut up.

This, they claim, is evidence that Ron cares more about Hermione than Harry does. Or that Harry doesn't care about her at all.

I do think what Ron did here is very admirable, and there's absolutely nothing to critique about that. What I hate is how it turns into Harry bashing to justify shipping Romione.

First, it's important to keep in mind that Harry's comparatively more level-headed than Ron is. He's not as emotional & he rarely displays them openly (and when he does, it's in Hermione's presence, but that's something for another post).

As Harry wanted to figure out a way from the problem, he was getting disturbed by Ron screaming, which was affected his concentration. That's why he asks her to shut up. Unlike Ron, who was reacting emotionally, Harry wanted to think about whether they would be able to escape the place. That's why he was asking him to shut up.

And that's a good thing. When you are in trouble and someone you like is getting tortured, you attempt to try and escape instead of getting carried away by your emotions.

To try and spin Harry trying to save Hermione into "he doesn't care about her" is a flat-out lie.

Honestly, if I were Harry, I'd be pretty pissed as well. Just look at it:

"HERMIONE!” Ron bellowed, and he started to writhe and struggle against the ropes tying them together, so that Harry stag- gered. “HERMIONE!” “Be quiet!” Harry said. “Shut up. Ron, we need to work out a way—“ “HERMIONE! HERMIONE!” “We need a plan, stop yelling—we need to get these ropes off—"

Harry wants to get the bindings off and work out a way. He wants to save Hermione, instead of just screaming to the void.

If even more evidence were needed:

Hermione was screaming again: The sound went through Harry like physical pain. Barely conscious of the fierce prickling of his scar, he too started to run around the cellar, feeling the walls for he hardly knew what, knowing in his heart that it was useless.

Her screaming "went through Harry like physical pain". And, also notice how he was "barely conscious of the prickling on his scar".

He's only done that once before, and that was when he was thinking about Sirius.

His love for Hermione is so powerful that he was able to block Voldemort out of his mind.

Casual Update

So I'm still not dead. It might surprise you but I've actually written tons in the past month (to my standards), and here are some details.

Son of the Legend. I finished chap4 ages ago (it was done even before chap4 of Ron Weasley and the Chamber of Secrets), and sent it to my beta. However, there's a thing with this. None of the 3 already published chaps are beta'd so actually sent her all 4 of them. As the rest of us, my beta has a life so I don't really expect this to be done soon, especially when the time she gets for me usually goes into other chaps I send her. Thinking on publishing chap4 unbeta'd and update with newer versions as they get looked at.

Power Rangers. I actually have a killed first scene for chap2. However, I was rambling too much with scene 2 onwards, and decided that the best for this is to put it in a similar hiatus to my Legend of Zelda fic. I'll come back to it when inspiration flows.

I wrote the first chap of a whole new fic (Yeah, I know). It's actually quite interesting, and it's on my beta's hands now.

Finished chap 2 of the Marauders and Lily time travel story. With my beta as well. (See what I said when I mentioned I gave her too much work)

Ron Weasley and the Chamber of Secrets chap5 won't take long to wrap. I actually did a good 80-90% of it already, and plot is neat, but am revisiting since I think I can do better with pacing and wording.

I am going to be busy next week, but some of my future plans include updating "Hermione is an Owl" and - one I am really looking forward to - the Halfblood Weasleys. Also, the other day I wrote like 15 % of the next chap in that DarkLady Hermione fic.

I'm still alive

So, belated happy new year wishes. As this post says, I am still alive and, believe it or not, writing more than a few months back. If you remember correctly, you were surprised by a couple of new chaps at the end of last year. If you think that was it, you are mistaken. I have written 2 more chaps in January, but they won't reach you until my reliable beta has had time to go through them.

The first one is the fourth chap of the Son of the Legend, it is complete. May take a while since the previous 3 were not beta'd and I'm getting all of them looked and I'll correct any minor detail in them before publishing the fourth.

The second chap, one I just finished yesterday, is the fourth chap (yeah... the month of fourth chaps) of Ron Weasley and the Chamber of Secrets. It is also complete and with my beta, an eventful chap that one.

That's it for now. I'll try to make a habit of writing more often here.

Meanwhile here is my take on the Harry in Azkaban and DarkHermione tropes... Though I am going to try and deliver a Hermione who is as close as possible to her canon self, and not just some dark witch with Hermione's name stuck to her.

Work has officially begun on Ron Weasley and the Chamber of Secrets chapter3:

The raspy grumble cut through the morning air without restraint, like the wail of an elderly baby — if there was even such a thing. Ron followed the gnome with the look as it made an arch over the garden, resembling some sort of flying potato with wiggling limbs.
