President Kent
Liam: Can we get a pony?
Martha: We live on a farm. Why?
Liam: Yes. But I'm starting to get used to being a Luthor so I'm splitting the difference between asking for stupid nonsense and something sensible.
Liam: Because we live on a farm.
Liam: And farms needs horses.
Martha:
Martha:
Lionel: *snickers*
Martha: Lionel!
Clark: We have horses.
Liam: But not ponies.
Lionel: He has you there.
Martha: Stop enabling him.
Lionel: You keep telling me I need to be in his life more.
Martha: Yes, spending time with him. Not spoiling him.
Lionel: *spread his hands* Luthor. We spoil our loved ones.
Clark: Didn’t he buy you…
Martha: That’s different.
Liam: How come grandma gets stuff but I can’t?
Lionel: I’ll get you a pony.
Liam: Yes!
Lionel: As soon as you learn how to take care of a horse.
Liam: Awww
Lionel: No pony then.
Liam: Awwww *pouts*

Inception
Something was not right besides the door being red. Lionel’s brow furrowed at the door and the feeling that he shouldn’t be showing Morgan where Jor-El was. He glanced over at his friend before looking past him at the war-torn streets of Suicide Slums.
Why was Morgan here? The battle that ravaged the neighborhood hadn’t involved his friend. He wouldn’t meet him until months later.
“You’re not Morgan,” Lionel declared and the being with his friend's face glared. “You’re like everything else here. A dream. A lie to deceive me.”
”It doesn’t matter, I have what I want.”
Lionel paled.

Red
They came upon a damaged apartment building. “What’s this?” his friend asked with a frown. Lionel pursed his lips and furrowed his brow at the door. Something about the color bothered him.
It was red, whereas everything else was still noir.
”Jor-El,” he murmured and reached for the handle. It wouldn’t budge when he tried to turn it. “Locked.” A growl of frustration came from Morgan and he glanced back at him to see a look he had never seen from his friend before.
”Why is he here?”
”I don’t know. I usually receive messages from him, not give them.”

Missive
“Lionel, get down!” he was yanked to the ground by a rough hand. He was still in his noir-like memory but it had changed to a battle between the Cylons and the Colonials.
Lionel glanced toward a blond and very young Morgan beside him. “Morg?” he whispered.
”You can’t deliver your message to Jor-El dead, dummy,” his best friend chastised and he felt his cheeks color. Jor-El. There was something about the name that spoke caution but he couldn’t think what it meant.
”Know where he is?” his friend waved a concerned hand in front of him.
”Yes. This way.”

Resilient
Cavil listened to the human scream. He didn’t need to imagine what was happening. He already knew and didn’t care so long as he got his information. “Where is Jor-El?” He knelt down next to the human as he lay in a version of the hybrid tank, covered in wires that connected him to a data stream.
“He’s proving to be quite resilient for his age,” Simon commented when the human again refused to cooperate. “Perhaps a different approach is required?”
Cavil glanced up at the Cylon surgeon, “Such as?”
”A friendlier approach may result in him lowering his guard.”

Lian: How about we trade. The kents can keep Lex. We get Martha.
Lex:
Lex:
Lex: I-
Lionel: Oh no the Kents would never go for it. Believe me I would love for Martha to live with us. Unfortunately we can't trade your brother.
Liam: Booooo
Lex: Hey!
Martha: *snorts*
In later seasons the Kents move in to The Luthor III when the ship they had been calling home becomes un-salvageable due to a Cylon attack.
It was Lex's suggestion and Lionel was agreeable to it. Clark hates it. Julian loves the idea the most.

Servants
“I can’t,” Lionel dared to argue; half expecting the slap for talking back. Instead, he received a look of disappointment that hurt him far more than a slap would have.
”We serve the Cylons,” Lachlan speaks again, his hand reaching up to cup his son’s face in an almost fatherly way.
Lionel glared as he snarled, “You served the Cylons, not me!”
The slap came that time and he held his cheek. “Tell them.”
”Or you’ll do what, Da? Beat me to death?”
”No, but they will.”
Somewhere in the fog, he can hear the mechanical steps of centurions approaching.

Ghosts
His eyes widened as the spectre of the past approached until he stood before him. “You’re not him,” he declared weakly. After all these years, he was still afraid of his father.
Lachlan frowned at his son, “Does it matter, lad?”
He closed his eyes, flinching under the grip now on his shoulder. It was almost… gentle? Lionel stared at his father, “What do you want?”
”For you to survive, lad,” Lachlan tells him. “Thoruls are survivors. Tell him what he wants to know.”
Lionel didn’t know how to feel about this version of his father. “Which is what?”
”Jor-El.”

Dreams
Everything felt surreal as he stood in the middle of a war torn street. There were burnt vehicles and centurions. He was certain that had been a human, crushed underneath rubble. Everything looked washed out in gray tones, almost like he was in one of those noir pictures Miss Sullivan’s friend liked.
A fog drifted in from somewhere and slowly filled the street, leaving him feeling chilled to the bone.
Something was wrong with this picture.
”Lionel,” a disembodied voice called out and Lionel frowned.
A man walked out of the fog and he felt his blood run cold. ”No…”

Prisoner
Clark frowned when the Cylons came out with a bound human in between them. Two skinjobs were with him, Cavil and the black colored one that Lois mentioned had been in charge of the fertility farms on Aerilon.
He recognized Lionel and he did not look well. It was clear he had been tortured, but something else was off with him. The once proud businessman had his head down and he walked sluggishly enough that the centurions aided him along.
He watched as they took him to a raider and Clark wondered what they were going to do with him.

Senator Kent
Something that would be absolutely funny.
Lionel taking a nap on the couch. And then all of a sudden he starts floating in his sleep.
Can't even scream because poor Martha and Jonathan are shocked with silence.
His inner Jor-El is seeping through

President Kent
Liam showing Lionel that power rangers finally made a Scottish ranger.
Lionel: And....the blue one is-
Liam: Don't look to into this.
Lionel: Fine
He stood outside of the farmhouse on the porch steps, staring up at the open screen door and listening to the sounds from inside. Lionel could hear his son laughing and shouting at some show he was watching, something to do with ninjas and rangers. William Kent sounded happy from where he stood and Lionel wasn't so certain as to whether he should be here or not.
But Martha had told him he needed to spend more time with their son so the boy at least would know him in some form. He knew he wasn't the best father out there or even a good one, his failure to raise Lex into a man he would have been proud of was testament to that. But she was insistent that he could do better with Liam, even going as far as suggesting to treat the boy like the way he had wanted to be treated by his own parents had they been as loving as good parents should be.
For Martha he had been willing to try and do better with their son, even if he couldn't exactly call the boy his own. It was a setting of their own making when they had agreed to keep his parentage a secret from him and everybody else. He didn't like it, but for the boy's sake, it had to be done. The life of a Luthor would have caused him to grow up in the same environment Lex had and he didn't want that for his youngest. He had briefly seen what a Luthor could become if he wasn't raised by him and lived in a stable home.
"Grandpa!" Liam greeted when he entered the farmhouse finally. The boy dropped his toys and rushed over to greet the older Luthor and he knelt down to scoop up the seven year old into his arms.
"My you're getting too heavy even for me," Lionel smiled at his son. He can see a little bit of Lex in him, he had the same smile that his older brother once had at that age.
"You're just getting old, grandpa," Liam teased and scooted back down to the floor before tugging on his hand. "Come watch Power Rangers with me."
"Power Rangers?" he cautiously asked while being led to the living room. Lionel sat on the old, leather couch draped in knitted afghans he knows Martha had made at one time. "Do I want to know?"
"They're a group of super heroes that save the world from evil monsters," Liam explained. He sat down in front of his grandfather on the floor, a red ranger toy in his hands. "They got nothing on Dad, but then Dad doesn't have a mechazoid to help him fight."
"A what?" Lionel blinked, perplexed by what his son was explaining to him. Liam gave an exasperated sigh that was all too familiar to him. When had the last time Lex had done the same but over his Warrior Angel comics? He couldn't remember and Lionel suspected he had simply appeared to be listening while he continued with whatever work he had been working on at the time.
A pang of regret tugged at his chest.
"How about you, uh, explain to me what is what?" Lionel suggested. Martha wanted him to spend more time with their son...
"Okay. That is the red ranger, he is the leader of the team," the boy began to explain. He went through each of the rangers as they appeared on the show, even went as far to explain their powers and weapons and how it helped them fight the evil monsters the size of his own skyscraper.
"Then there is the blue one..." Liam paused and looked up at his grandfather. "Don't read too much into him."
"Alright." He raised an eyebrow at that statement, wondering why his son would say that. Then he heard the accent, however atrocious it was, but it was clearly meant to be Scottish. "He's Scottish? Is that what you meant?"
"Yeah," Liam sheepishly replied.
Lionel glanced down at his son and the boy leaned his head back against the couch between his knees. "You know, I am Scottish."
"But I thought you..."
"I live in a Scottish castle."
His son looked back to the television and pursed his lips as he considered something. "Uncle Lex said you use to have one but you got rid of it cause you didn't want to be reminded of your dad."
Leave it to his son to tell his youngest about his issues with his own father. Lionel muttered under his breath and he wasn't sure how exactly he could explain such a delicate and sensitive topic without actually revealing anything. His son didn't need to know he had been abused by his own father. "Something like that."
He listened as Liam fiddled with the limbs of the red ranger toy he had in his hands before saying wistfully, "I wish I knew my dad."
His head snapped to the boy fast enough that he almost gave himself whiplash, "Why do you say that?"
"I know I'm adopted. I don't look anything like Jon, or Dad and Mom. I overheard Mom saying to cousin Chloe that I look like Grandma though." Lionel could hear the hurt in his son's voice and a part of him wanted to pick him up and reveal everything to him. But he willed himself to stay where he was. His son's safety was far more important than whatever they wanted in their hearts.
He glanced away to hide the remorseful expression that threatened to break out on his face. When he was certain his voice would be steady; "Even though you are adopted, Clark is your dad and... and I'm sure your father loves you despite having to give you up."
"Why though?" Liam looked up at his grandfather with tears in his eyes. "Why did my dad and mom give me up? Was I... Didn't they want me?"
Lionel swallowed thickly and he slid off the couch to kneel beside his son, "Your real parents loved you. They..." How much could he reveal to him? Inwardly he cursed their decision to keep him in the dark. But perhaps he could craft a half-truth that would satisfy him and help them in the future when they could come back to him?
He pulled his son into his arms and felt Liam wrap his arms around his neck. "They gave you up to protect you."
"Protect me?" Liam said, his voice muffled against his neck. "Protect me from what?"
"People who would want to hurt your parents by hurting you. They love you, Liam. Very much. So they gave you to Clark and Lois because they knew they would keep you safe and love you."
Liam was quiet for several long moments, his sniffles the only sound that his son would allow himself to make. After a while, he lifted his head up and looked at his grandfather, "Is it because they're superheroes?"
Lionel gently smiled, "Not quite, but they are powerful people who are trying to make a difference in the world and they have a lot of enemies who would love to see them fall."
"Will I ever get to meet them?" Liam asked, his voice and expression full of hope.
"One day, but not today or any time soon. Their work isn't done yet." Lionel reached up to wipe away the tears from his son's cheeks and tried to smile for him. "Now... lets not worry about them and tell me more about this Scottish ranger."
His son gave him a look for changing the subject but he seemed content to let it go for now and continue to tell him about the show. Lionel sat back on the couch with his son in his lap this time, pleased that he was able to avoid revealing the truth but also happy that he had found some way to tell him that truth, even if it was just a half-truth.
Martha was right though. He did need to spend more time with Liam if he wanted the boy to know who his father really was one day. Clark may be raising him, but that didn't mean he could ignore Liam and hope for the best.
He had failed Lex.
He wasn't going to fail Liam.

Lex: Hey!
Lionel: Lian you can't replace your brother.

Lionel: No we can't Martha son.
Lex:
Lex: Because she said no
Lionel:
Lionel: Because she is priceless.
Lex: Because she said no.
Lionel:
Lionel:
Lionel: Because she said no.
Lex: I knew it!
Lionel: And also Jonathan would punch me if I tried.
Lian: But Mister Kent is nice.
Lionel: He's nice to everybody but me.
Lian: Why?
Lionel: I don't want to talk about.
Lex: He made him do something bad.
Lian: That's not nice.
Lionel: Yes, well, I'm on his shit list forever now.
Lex: I was too, but I managed to convince him I'm nice.
Lian: I'm not. Mister Kent likes me.
Lionel: Only because you're nine. Give it a few more years and you'll be on his list too.
Lian: No I won't. I won't make him do bad things.
Lionel: I didn't make him! I gave him a choice and he chose to do it.
Lex: That's a technicality and you know it.
Lionel: Life is full of technicalities.
Lian: Missus Kent doesn't agree.
Lionel: How would you know?
Lian: *looks behind him*
Lionel: *sighs* She's behind me, isn't she?
Martha: Yes and a technicality is about to be presented to you in a minute.
Lionel: Now, Martha...
Lian: Oooo Dad is in trouble.
Lionel: Why you... when we get home, you're grounded.
Lian: Not before you are!
Lionel: *takes a step toward his son*
Lian: *runs off laughing*
Lex: And here you thought I was the troublesome one.
Lionel: Go fetch your brother before he gets into more trouble.
Lex: *snorts* Be gentle with the old man, Missus Kent, his pride won't be able to handle being mothered.
Lionel: Why you...!
Martha: *smiles* Don't worry, I'm sure your father will change his ways before he leaves.
Lex: *laughs* We'll see. Laters, Missus Kent. Bye, Dad.
Lionel: *exasperated sigh* So... what trouble am I in now?
Martha: None. Care to have some lunch with me? I'm sure you've missed out on breakfast at least.
Lionel: *smiles* And Jonathan?
Martha: Is in town getting power converters for the harvester with Clark.
Lionel: As long as I am not intruding, then lunch sounds wonderful.
Martha: Come on in then. *heads into the farmhouse*
Lionel: *follows with a slight spring in his step*
Lian: Dad has a crush for Missus Kent.
Lex: Dad doesn't crush on anyone.
Lian: *gives his brother a look* He's crushing on her hard.
Lex: What do you know about women?
Lian: *pouts* More than you do apparently.
Lex: I don't see you with a girlfriend.
Lian: At least I don't have any girlfriends that want to kill me!
Lex: Hey, that was one time and she was crazy.
Lian: Uh huh.
Lex: *thwaps his brother* Shush!
Lian: *sticks his tongue out at Lex and then runs away*
Lex: You better run, you little twerp! *runs after him*

Gossip
”Who is your little friend, Clark?” Martha asked as they entered the quaint, little farmhouse on Aerilon that the Kent family called home.
”This is Julian,” Clark answered. Lian smiled shyly from beside him. “He’s Lex’s little brother.”
”Dad speaks highly of you,” Lian eagerly said like any nine year old who didn’t understand private gossip wasn’t something you should reveal. “He likes you alot.” He spread his arms wide to emphasize his point.
”Lian!” they heard Lex chastise just before he entered. “I’m sorry, Missus Kent.”
Martha softly laughed, “It's okay. I’m aware of your father’s affection for me.”

Fury
In the months after the fall of civilization, Lionel had come to learn what was important. Wealth was meaningless, they were all on equal footing. Power was fleeting with the constant threat of the Cylons. It changed hands as quickly as Lex’s choices in women did.
The only constant was family.
Which was being threatened now.
”Dad!” Lian’s terror sent him into a rage he hadn’t realized he had. Grabbing the officer before him, he lifted him into another. The others hesitated at the display of strength before descending upon him with batons.
He didn’t see if Lian made it.
