War Child
As I walk through the streets which were my home.
I remember the pain I witnessed here.
The memories of the death and destruction I saw.
The emotions I felt sorrow, pain and fear.
Death was a constant and ever-present visitor
He would always be near and was always silent
He would take all without discrimination and prejudice
But most of the ones I glimpsed were violent
I never have sweet dreams only nightmares
Constantly haunted by the people I killed
Their accusing eyes and pointing fingers
My hand dripping with their blood I spilled
I’ve always tried to put my past behind
But it’s hard when you people want you to remember
Constantly telling you it wasn’t your fault
Using words like massacre, child soldier, dismember
