Superman is my favorite superhero and thus I now present my ranking of all the live action actor portrayals of him.

9. Kirk Alyn

The first one and the one I havent seen as much of so he lands here.

8. George Reeves

Seen a bit more of him but due to the limitations of the time and way more campy nature of the show and performance I have to put him here.

7. Tyler Hoechlin

I will start by saying I never watched Superman and Lois so im basing this ranking entirely on his performance before that show in the Arrowverse and Supergirl show more specifically. He acted the part well enough but I could never quite fully see him as Superman.

6. Dean Cain

I got really into Lois and Clark back when it first came out and was geeked to just have a live action Superman weekly on tv. I especially found his relationship with Teri Hatcher's Lois to be a fun watch, my favorite pairing of the two until recently(more on that later).

5. Brandon Routh

Brandon was the first Superman I saw for myself in an actual cinema and as such that alone made an impression on me. If there is any critique to him is that he is trying to play the same Big Blue that Christopher Reeve had played and no one could truly duplicate that... but Brandon did a fine attempt.

4. Henry Cavill

This is where ranking them got really hard. I love Cavill in this role. I am even a fan of the films he was in and their more darker take. So you wont find me complaining about any of that. I just find the top 3 versions a bit more fun.

3. Christopher Reeve

The first I ever saw and for many the standard when judging a Superman. As near perfect casting of someone who embodied a character as you will ever find in cinema. I love him even if the quality and tone of his films at times clashed with his performance.

2. David Corenswet

A revelation in the role. A perfect mix of the man I ranked below him and the man above him. He has made the role his own and completely owned it and I enjoyed his film so much and how well it complemented his performance that it propelled him up to this spot for me.

1. Tom Welling

And then there was one. Tom's portrayal and Smallville as a show propelled Superman into position at the top of my favorite superhero list. That is all. This is what I think of when I think of perfect casting and performance.
