Earlier this April, i've received a not so bad news. I have failed to fulfill my expectations as a student. I'm quite disappointed that I didn't make it on top. I was saddened because I feel like all of the hardships i've been through didn't pay off. I am upset because I think I have failed to prove to myself that i am good enough#I know one's intelligence cannot be measured on awards given on him/her but maybe it's just that I treat medals as simple gifts to oneself for all his/her hardwork in school. I know all of this may sound dramatic but that's what I really felt during that time. It took me some weeks to finally convince myself that it was "okay". Its okay not to meet your expectation's sometimes. Its okay to be disappointed at yourself, to feel sad and upset sometimes. You've got to remind yourself that failing is really a part of life. Failing is okay, what's not okay is to stop believing in yourself after you've failed to do such thing. We all need to realize that life is not just a bunch of sunflowers and rainbows, life can also bring us down sometimes but it can definitely uplift us through learning it's (life's) greatest lessons. So whether you're dealing with a big or a not so big situation, remember "it's okay not to be okay." Your own sunny days will soon come out so smile brightly as possible. And remind yourself that #IAmLustrous ❤️ — julia

“First love never dies.”
I didn’t believe about ‘first love’ until it haunted me every single day. I can’t pass a day without listening or grooving with music; it’s my first love. It somehow runs in my deepest and darkest veins. It motivates me, lifts me up and makes me feel safe. Music is the other dimension I could run to. Music is like an open arm that wouldn’t hesitate to hug me. Music is just simply everything to me.
I have listened to many songs played by different awesome artists ever since I was young but recently, I got hooked on a Filipino band which is the IV of Spades; composed of Unique Salonga (guitars/vocals), Zildjian Benitez (bass/vocals), Blaster Silonga (guitars) and Badjao de Castro (drums). They are one of the emerging bands in this generation. (I’ve discovered them on youtube.) I don’t know exactly why I was captivated by them but I do think that the kind of music they produce is worth-listening for. I’ve listened to some of their tracks like “ilaw sa daan”, “hey Barbara”, “where have you been, my disco?”, and “mundo” (which is shown on this blog).
I actually loved “ilaw sa daan” first before “mundo” because it was more of a grabber for me but after listening several times to “mundo”, I couldn’t help myself but fall in love with the music the give to my ears. The lyrics are such powerful words that engrave into my heart and the way they sang it - is just very heartfelt. It’s the kind of lyrics you would remember for life, it is simply romantic and very truthful. (I would burst out into tears if my partner would say, “aking sinta, ikaw na ang tahanan at mundo”) I can feel the sincerity and the genuine love that they have for music. They are really awesome kids for me.
They are one of the music-makers that this nation should be proud of. I hope that they continue to create awe-inspiring songs for everyone.
Thank you, iv of spades.
God bless us all.
