so glinda pulls her aside and makes her plea for elphie to stay this time, to trust her and trust that they'll be able to do more good from the inside, together. and however flawed glinda might be for her complicity in the wizard's regime, she does genuinely believe this and she does genuinely want the best for elphie

and for a moment, it looks like it's working, and they'll finally be together again, and that everything will be ok. but elphaba will never settle for being complicit in the wizard's rule, and after seeing dr. dillamond goes feral and unleashes a stampede upon glinda's wedding

and then glinda sees elphie and fiyero leaving and it's not just the betrayal of elphie getting with her fiancé, but deciding that they're love isn't enough, that she's better off without glinda
