KaiShin is an incredibly interesting ship because its characters’ canon is presented in a very unique manner that is so rare.
They are both the protagonist of their own respective series. But they both have appearances in each other’s series. It’s very rare to have a big franchise show and a spin-off of it that both center characters who regularly cross over.
And to unlock the full KaiShin potential, you simply have to watch both Detective Conan and Magic Kaito, because only when you watch both shows do you realize that this is absolutely mutual pining.
If you watch Detective Conan, you get everything from Shinichi’s POV. You are presented with KID as this elusive, enigmatic and charming gentleman thief whose actions seem very random because you don’t really know his motivation. But you get to watch Shinichi slowly grow fond of the thief, you watch him reminiscent about KID (so, so, so many shots of Conan thinking in a voice-over about KID while a large image of KID is projected into the background. So many), you have him smile as he thinks about KID and you get direct insight into his thoughts about KID.
Tumblr media
And, truly, he thinks about KID a lot. You see Shinichi, who always catches every criminal, let KID go repeatedly, voluntarily, with flimsy excuses, up to the point where they regularly work together. And you just sit there, going, “well damn, son, you sure are in love, huh”.
And then you watch Magic Kaito and you see Kaito getting visually more giddy when he spots Conan in a crowd, you see Kaito watch Conan with a smile and observe as Conan figures out more and more of the trick, you hear Kaito’s thoughts and conversations with his assistant about how much more of a challenge it is with Conan around how if Conan is there, Kaito has to show him, specifically, “brilliant magic”.
Tumblr media
It’s just Magic Kaito canon that Kaito designs his most breathtaking magic shows specifically for Shinichi. And you just sit there, going, “well damn, son, you sure are in love, huh”.
Only by watching both Magic Kaito and Detective Conan parallel do you unlock the knowledge that “oh shit, those dumbasses are both in love” and I think that is very beautiful and also incredibly unique, because you rarely get to have such an insight into the thoughts of both characters to this extend.
It’s basically like watching a slow-burn fanfiction where both try to woo the other while simultaneously also being completely oblivious to the way the other person is looking at them and the effort they put in. And I think that’s beautiful.

hopeless time loop. the way out isn’t to save everyone. the way out isn’t to save even one person. the way out isn’t to change anything. the way out is accepting how it happened the first time is how it always will be. that’s how you acted, that’s how they acted, that’s how you would have acted every time if you weren’t given the curse of hindsight. the way out is accepting you can’t fix the past; you can only forgive yourself for it.

love reading late 90s/early 2000s scholarship on the potential of the internet. "hey we shouldn't let venture capitalists get in on this" And Then They Did

first bind!
i never posted it before, but it's good to have a marker of where i started 💜
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
paper was regular copy paper, sewn with embroidery thread, boards scavenged from an old sketchbook and endpapers excruciatingly cut with the sharp corner of a metal ruler and an ultra janky exacto knife, "mull" not shown because it was bright pink sparkly tulle. lol
the bookcloth is homemade from this strangely wrinkly and textured cotton fabric, and the endpapers are a rolled up and glued piece of paper. all held together with mod podge! hand-painted the title with golden acrylic.
i didn't think id ever post this one, but it's nice to look back and see how far ive come, even though im quite embarrassed by the state of it. still, it's the bind that has gotten the most use (and reuse); ive annotated it over and over again from each reread and now its full of tabs. still works as a book, so no matter how janky it is, it has lasted as a functional readable object!

I need people to stop blaming the death of movies on “quips”. A quip is just a funny line of dialogue. That’s all. Like I just saw a post talking about quips and the death of movies and brought up Pirates of the Caribbean as an example of a better movie and yes it is but also that movie is FULL OF QUIPS. I just rewatched The Princess Bride. It’s all quips. Every single line. And it’s a masterpiece.
Movies suck when people don’t care about the art they’re making. That includes them not caring about their quips. Which is why a lot of comic relief dialogue ALSO sucks now. But the problem isn’t that funny dialogue exists.

Tumblr is a very strange place, where I have first encountered people who just go buck-wild over… hands. Just, hands. I don’t really get it, but after seeing this scene of Kaito playing with cards I absolutely 100% need Shinichi to be one of those people who go buck-wild over hands. Completely losing it over the way Kaito performs tricks and sleights of hands and even without anything happening, just being totally transfixed by Kaito’s hands.
 I need that.
