“BAYAN KONG KINAGISNAN”
Kalayaan ating ipagdiwang
Mula sa mapang-aping mga banyaga
Babangon kami't kaya naming maging malaya
Pilipino ako, sa puso, isip at diwa
San man mapunta ito'y aking dala dala

For our 14th and last weekly challenge for this semester ( I didn’t know and expected that I would feel sad doing this for the last semester, especially if my teacher wouldn’t anymore be Sir Yasi T.T ) we were only asked by Sir What is Earth Science for us, and only basing on all the things we’ve discuss in the whole first semester and what we have learned, and I swear I’ll be doing this with no copy paste method which we students usually do.
For me Earth Science is everything in our surroundings, may it be living or not it, everything around us and everything we do is connected to Earth Science. Protecting and curing Mother Earth is one of it’s biggest concern, yet mostly people living in it don’t give a damn thing on what would happen if they keep doing this things, even though they know it could worsen Mother Earth’s condition. For the past lessons with tackle every session, things I do or handle now every second, every minute, every hour of everyday I constantly think carefully the things I should do or not to do to avoid or lessen the serious damage we human beings have caused to our home, Earth.
Never have I’ve knew until now how many times could we have the chance to cure our home, but again bad things that could worsen it’s condition are much more important than doing good deeds and curing Earth.
I’ve learned so much of this subject that I’ve even converted myself to be vegetarian for certain important reasons, conserved water in many ways, and I even used the 3R’s just to show and prove to myself that if I can change for the better, all of us can too.
Since then, things tend to be more complicated to cure Earth. So just what they said “Prevention is Better than Cure”, let us put an effort to at least show that we can still prevent the things that are yet to come, let us change not just for the Earth but to all of us living in it.

Our 12th weekly challenge was to share our worst weather-related experience we've encountered in our life (i.e. storms, tornados, blizzards, lightning, etc).
I was still a kid when some storm came to our place in Mindanao which I’ve forgotten already because of the trauma I had. It took me years to get over the incident that happened, and to think I was just 6 when that storm came to our place and took many lives which I was too young to understand and to scared to help people because I wasn’t quite exposed to other people. As far as I can remember, people we’re shouting at their homes saying “tabang!” or help, and what could have I done? even though I really wanted to help them I was helpless since the water was estimted to be above already my head. My dad carried me and threw me on our speedboat, yes literally threw because he was also rattled because of the screams, my mother as well and other siblings were with me on the speedboat, he told my mom to help as many people you could, so we did. My older brother and older sister helped my dad had their own jetski’s, thanks to Dad’s sporty hobby ( My dad was a Jetski Rider meaning he has a lot of jetski’s and water thingies that float ) To help more families my family decided to split up. So despite having the worst experience ever, it was also one of the memorable experience I had.

STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS QUESTIONS:
A. During construction, how did you test the strength and stability of your structure?
We tested it by putting things like phones, bottled waters, or anything that feels like 250g and sometimes we out it on the arm chair and would shake it to test it’s limits.
B. During construction, what strategies did you use to strengthen the weaker areas? Why?
We used more paper clips and twisted them together to the weak parts of the building to build a hard foundation of the it and we inserted pins so that we would be sure that it was holding together.
C. What are the strongest parts of your building? Why?
I could say that our octagon base was surely strong, hence because of its structure and was fully tested that it won’t breakdown when it is tested.
D. What are the weakest parts of your building? Why?
The second story of our building had a weak foundation, thus we didn’t expected it to be weak because we tested it but not exactly tested it like what we did to our base because we forgot to make it as strong as our base.
E. Where did you use string in your structure? Why?
We used it to hold the outer side of our second story building. We pulled or stretch the side of the second story since it has the weaker side to improve the weaker foundation compared to the last thing we made.
F. Where did you use pins in your structure? Why?
We used them mostly in connecting or securing the first and second story of the building more that it was before because it needs more grip on to that side.
G. If you had 5 more straws, where would you add them? Why?
I would choose to add them to the structures of the building that was weak, I would add three straws to the weak side of the second story and the remaining two straws would be added to my base to have a stronger foundation than before.

For our 9th weekly challenge we were given a task and actually it was pretty hard for me since it was all new to me, and quite different among all the other weekly challenges. The one’s that are most likely experiencing the limited flow of water are Places/Minings that are far away from the Main river hence because of the geological condition that is being given. Places like this are commonly going to have a high possibility of having water contamination as they continue to damage, pollute or spill chemicals and other things that are from the companies (Midnight Coal Mine, Driller’s Farm etc.) such as a foul smell, dirty fog, and chemicals which can cause both air and water pollution around the river area.
Moreover wells like D, E, H, and I are commonly contaminated wells. As the Metal Works factory continues to release toxic or hazardous materials in almost everywhere in the given situation. The wells that were affected and got contaminated were D and H. The spring was already contaminated therefore wells E and M got affected.
Also the main river, which is called The Black River, flows to the west from right to left and then right through the center of the valley.
Most of the wells were contaminated based on the information that was given to us, thus because of some affected areas and companies/factories who continue to release toxic materials and chemicals. Although the Basin Fill was said to have aquifers which serves as the base part of the valley. But there are some wells that were not affected by these factories, and this are wells G, K, L, N, O which are contamination free.

From the documentary we had watched, we were told that if I would change one thing with my lifestyle? What would it be?
It would be strictly eating fruits, vegetables, and sea foods every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday evening. I promise myself that if I would do this, it would help and benefit other species such as the animals that are most likely prawn to extinction, In accordance to Sir Yasi's program, I will avoid eating any other kinds of food that is restricted by my rules upon the given task. I agreed on Sir Yasi’s way on doing or lessen things that is not good for mother earth and importantly have a better future. If I can influence other or more people to do this and lessen the problems of the world, we would change history, also when years pass by we will continue to see the improvement and changed those things that were affecting our environment and causing extinction to animals at some point. Let us do everything in our power to change our lifestyle to be a better person, let us change for the better.

Water, one of the most important reason why we survive. Yet we take it for granted, abusing it and wasting it for some nonsense things.
For our 8th weekly challenge we were instructed that for three days, we would limit our water consumption during our bath time. Supposedly when I take a bath I usually finish for about 10-30 minutes and I didn’t actually knew how much water I was using and wasting but through out our discussion with Sir Yasi, I now know how much water I’ve consumed in just one day and really felt bad just hearing it. In just 5 minutes of taking a bath (shower) it would consume 10 gallons of water and imagine that I took 30 minutes of bath everyday and it really affects me badly. So to start off I accepted the challenge given to us by Sir Yasi that we should only limit our bath time (shower) for 5 minutes. I did the challenge at the first day and for me it was hard, thus I have been used to taking my time in putting girly stuffs in my entire body while taking bath, but I know my time is ticking so it felt like I was “the flash” in a moment because I was really trying my best not to exceed the time limit. I successfully did the challenge in three consecutive days and it felt good to know that before, I’ve used to much water in just taking a bath alone and now I’ve lessen a big portion of my bath time. It inspired me to do it for the rest of my life (long term).
In the future, with the amount of shortages we have when it comes to water, limiting water consumption may be inevitable. My thoughts on this? Well, everything doesn’t last forever, but while we still have time we should start conserving and less consuming water, because water is life.

As I was taking a stroll down the school, I identified certain areas/slopes that are showing signs of instability and have the tendency to fail. I quickly took a picture of it since this was one of our weekly challenge. So why did I chose this area/slope? Simply because Slope failure can be as subtle as a small pile of rocks at the base of a hill or as spectacular as a mudflow that has occurred.
By just looking at it’s features you can see that it’s hazardous and if you stand near it, you can sense a feeling that it might fall of over you. I went near this area and carefully observed it. I think time went by and made this area this certain slope now. Slope failures mobilized unconsolidated material that is stripped from hillsides. Materials include soil, loose sediment, pieces of wood and other plant parts, boulders, and other types of loose debris.
This slope wasn’t like this before since the bedrock is already showing off so I can say that this slope already had a slope failure before and made this slope what it is now.

The Rose Quartz Geode is a rock that I can relate myself into.
Its color is usually soft, ranging from very light pink to medium pink in intensity. It is often hazy or turbid, which makes it lack good transparency. Rose Quartz is fairly common and found in many places throughout the world, and can occur in very large examples in nature. credits to: http://www.minerals.net/gemstone/rose_quartz_gemstone.aspx
So, why did I chose this rock out of all the other rocks? First of all I based my personality on the six characteristics of the rock which are hardness, lustre, colour, crystal structure, cleavage and fracture, and streak.
To start off, the hardness of the Rose Quartz Geode is in the scale of 7, let’s say I’m the type of person who’s not very grumpy neither too noble, it depends on how people treat me, if they are good then I’ll also be good to them, but if they’re not being good or disrespecting other people and offends others then I have to do the right thing that should be done.
For lustre, I think when I look in the mirror I see myself shining maybe because when I’m alone I literally love myself so much that I see myself to much from the reality.
For the colour, you can see that it has red, pink, and black in the inner part, and white on the outer part. Some say that I have fair skin and that describes the colour white, when I get stressed or tired at some point, my face turns pinkish-red, for black I couldn’t think of anything else except my hair.
So for the crystal structure you can see that the rock is more than it meets the eye, same as my personality, you can’t judge directly by just looking at something or someone. Before you start pointing fingers, make sure your hands are clean.
Cleavage and fracture, this is a break or something that can damage the appearance of the rock or something that causes the rock to crack/break. As a human being, I can relate this to what a certain person feels, when someone is broke, hurt, depressed, and thinking what to do besides wanting to kill themselves. We all felt perfect at some point seeing ourselves so happy that life seems so wonderful and then here comes people, things, problems that can can suddenly change everything that results to bad experiences and leads us to painful memories. This leaves us to have scars physically and mentally, time may pass us by and lessen the pain but it will be forever scars or cleavage and fracture if it were rocks.
As for the streak, I compared it to a lesson learned in life. When you feel over or finally done at something, you let it go, or simply the streak that leaves the rock.

My First Month Experience of Being a Senior High Student
My life changed as if it was just a big flash of light when I accomplished my Junior High, it was sad knowing that, that life was already gone because I had to start all over again. New friends, new school, new environment.
When I first came at University of San Carlos TC, all I felt was nervosity, shyness, and all of the negative feelings you get when you are in a new environment, but the good thing is that was just the first day, and we still have many weeks to get to know each other. Two weeks has pass and I’m already adapting to my environment, making new friends, and sharing different stories to each other, and I am getting really comfortable with every each person in the class since their not that hard to talk to and they have great personalities. Our teachers was at their best, well mannered and very humble and as much as possible getting us to interact with each other and with them.
Also I’m not bragging but we all have favorite teachers and my fave was our science teacher, I can absolutely understand him but sometimes I forget what I’ve learn, and I don’t know why. So far my journey in the first month was both stupendous and laborious.

For our second blog, we were assigned to write about the positive and negative things we’ve done for the 4 types of spheres. When I thought on how to present my blog, drawing was my first option, but then I realised, I suck at things like art, so I went to google and search for a picture that best describes how i imagined my picture on the blog would be. So first I would like to say about the negative things I’ve done, sometimes I forget how much small bad things we do could affect the spheres, just like when I threw a piece of trash in a sidewalk, it might seem teensy, but after how many hours or days, when I came back to look at what I’ve started, it piled up and mainly affects the Lithosphere, it taught me to never to threw trash anywhere.
I really don’t do illegal or bad things when it comes to our Hydrosphere but usually I see people do harmful things even it’s obviously illegal and prohibited, things like illegal bomb fishing, oil spill and etc. I’m just a student and can’t do big things or warn people to not do things like that, but I would definitely do my best to show them that what they are doing is not good.
Everything around us evolves, and usually when we talk about evolution it’s a constant change of everything including humans, living and non-living organisms. Cities, factories, and other man-made activities causes our Atmosphere to suffer every second, every minute, every hour, every time, everyday. Did you even know that overpopulation means more demand for food, more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, more demand for cars and more demand for homes which is a detriment to the Atmosphere. We should know our limits to everything, because if not, we would seriously face the aftermath.

“Who am I in the midst of the universe?”, this was the question given to us by our teacher, I was confused and nervous at the same time, when he told us to make a blog about it, since I have no idea how to start my very first blog. I realized it wasn’t just about writing the blog, because in order to answer his question we had to go star gazing, which is one of my favourite things to do every time I’m free and so I did, and got a photo of it, by using the app called SkyView it’s free by the way and is so cool. So, Who am I in the Midst of the Universe? Until now I have been searching for who and what I am really for, what’s my use, because everybody has their purpose in life, but maybe I still haven’t found or know my capabilities yet. Sometimes I wonder, maybe I’m just an average person not so high like the others and makes me feel down, but there is always a way on everything. So what I did was thought of myself as a queen of my own universe as if I had my own world, where-in I get to imagine great possibilities and fantasies. It maybe called a start-off for where your dreams to begin, but it would be a great start to know what I would really want to be. Don’t be afraid to be you, because being yourself in this universe is the greatest and coolest thing you could have done for yourself, be the queen/king of your own universe.
