She was looking at Penelope. “Well, I've not seen any others,” His wife answered, smirking, “But I do think the Bridgerton men are all… similarly blessed.” Her eyes sparkled as they cut to Colin. “Perhaps you'd like to switch things up in your timeline and see if Benedict measures up...” “Hey now,” Colin said, teasing yet sharp. He fisted Penelope's hair and dragged her mouth to his, feeling her laugh against his lips. “I can assure you he does not. And there will be no more talk of that or mention of any other men because it will never happen. Not while I'm around.” He glanced between the two women. “Understood?” “Yes sir, Mister Bridgerton,” Penelope said and pecked him on the lips, still grinning. The little minx loved getting him all riled up and jealous. And to be fair, it didn't take much where she was concerned.

“I just—I've seen you both together, and I can't tell you how much I want, how I've always wanted…” Pen shut her eyes. “I only want to experience that for myself. And I know I never will with–with my Colin,” she said, sounding resigned. “I could die tomorrow.”

Colin’s mouth twitched. “You're not going to die tomorrow.”

“But I could and it would kill me!” Pen cried, and this time it was Penelope who helpfully supplied, “You would already be dead.”

Before Pen could answer, Colin added, “But you don't want to die without ever being kissed.”

Pen’s mouth opened and closed wordlessly a few times before her lips pressed into a firm unhappy line. “...You are both laughing at me.”

“No,” Penelope was quick to shake her head. “We are not, believe me. We are simply… reliving an old conversation.”

I also wrote this drabble for a prompt in the "But you're my mess" discord:

Penelope goes down for a drink of water in the middle of the night, Colin is getting a snack, what happens next? What do they say?

"Miss Featherington," Colin said slowly in surprise, though Penelope wasn't sure why he was surprised to see her in the kitchens, seeing as she is the family cook. He had a half-drunk bottle of gin in one hand, while his other was stuffed into the biscuit jar. The shine in his eyes gave away his drunken state as he looked her up and down, saying softly, "a most welcome sight indeed."

Penelope laughed, flustered. She had only come for a glass of water. "Col—Mr Bridgerton,” she corrected herself. “I do believe you are well past your last drink for the night."

"Nonsense, I've only just started," Colin boasted, smiling happily. "Especially as you are now here to join me." He shoved a cookie into his mouth and rummaged through the cupboards for a glass. He poured a generous amount before placing the tumbler in front of Penelope.

"Oh," she floundered, "oh no, I couldn't…"

"Drink," Colin begged softly, a smile in his eyes that Penelope couldn't decipher. "At least indulge me with a sip… for our toast.”

“Toast?” Penelope placed her hands on her hips, arching her brow. “What are we toasting to?”

“Why, my finding you here, of course!” He grinned. “I've been most eager for a moment alone with you, Miss Featherington. Here, I shall find myself another glass." He spun and fumbled clumsily, so uncharacteristically discombobulated that Penelope couldn't help but to smother a laugh against the back of her fist.

At last, Colin turned to her with a triumphant smile, glass in hand. "Are you laughing at me, Miss Featherington?" He grabbed the gin and went to pour his drink, until Penelope stopped him, placing her small hand atop of his.

"I think you will find that you'll have more to drink…" Penelope said with barely restrained mirth, as she delicately turned over the cup in his hand, "...with your glass the right-side up, Mr Bridgerton."

Colin huffed a laugh, his smile boyish and handsome as he leaned down into her space. "A wise assessment as always, Miss Featherington," he whispered, close enough for the heat of his breath to fan against her cheek. "What would I ever do without you?"

"Die of thirst, it would seem," Penelope breathed, looking up into his dark, shining eyes.

"Oh… of that I have no doubt." Colin moved closer, his hand finding her waist and drawing her in.

Here, the rotting dead roam the earth, and the only person that he can rely on is someone who - although she may look like his Pen - is nothing like the girl Colin has always known and cared for.

Still, Colin knows he must learn to adapt and survive this new world if he has any hopes of returning home, and escaping this hellish nightmare turned real.

Aw thank you. Sorry I'm replying to this way later. I had a tough time of it the other day as I was feeling kinda ganged up on about it, but talking it through with some lovelies on discord helped me feel better and that I wasn't crazy for feeling attacked.

It is what it is though, and I'm happy I responded how I did. Those kinda things just get to me, and ngl I needed to step back a bit from things this week 😑

Penelope glares over her shoulder up at Colin, and is a little caught off guard by his closeness. His nose tickles against her forehead and she has to lean away.

“It was only a kiss,” Penelope hisses. Her cheeks feel flushed and another tear slips down her cheek. “I told you it didn't have to mean anything—”

Colin scoffs, “Not mean anything?” His hands grab at her waist, his long fingers encompassing the width of her hips easily as he presses himself flush against her back. “That kiss meant everything, and you know it.”

Shocked, Penelope shakes her head in disbelief and turns back around to look down at the packed ballroom. “Do not say things you do not mean, Colin.”

“But I do mean it,” Colin says in a low voice, the words brushing against the back of her ear. “That kiss is everything I've been wanting – been dreaming of for weeks.” His breath is warm on the skin of her neck, sending a pleasurable chill down her spine. “Nothing else exists. Nothing else mattered as soon as I felt the softness of your lips on mine, Pen. This need I've been overcome with for weeks finally took shape in the form of your kiss, your name. You can't tell me you didn't feel it too.”

“You don't mean it,” she insists softly, to herself as much as to him. “You can't mean it. You've never wanted me. I'm only your friend—”

“What I desire from you is not mere friendship, Pen,” Colin says. He pulls her hips back into his, and she feels a thick firmness at her backside. “I want to be so much more… I want everything with you.”

“They're just words,” Penelope shakes her head and squeezes her eyes shut tightly. “Pretty words. Empty words.”

“Do you feel empty, Pen?” Colin asks, and his hands slide down her hips to her thighs.

“Colin…”

“If you're empty, if you need me to fill you… I will. Just let me,” he says, breathing hard. “I want nothing more.”
