Kaia had to remind herself to not crush the cup of tea she had for Logan in her hands upon hearing what Shaun had said, taking a deep breath, “That’s ridiculous, you’re one of the most incredible residents I know and I think we’re very lucky to have you,” she said, firmly pushing the up button for the elevator. “I get being competitive, but c’mon, we’re here to learn and save lives,” she sighed.

“Exactly, you don’t have to label yourself any specific way if you don’t want to.  I agree with Kaia though, I don’t label my sexuality purely because I’d rather just fall in love with whoever I fall in love with.  But I’m sure we can find you some resources if you’d like to do more research on your own,” Neil offered gently as he took a sip of his coffee.

Kaia couldn’t help the bitter laugh that escaped her, “You got that right Shaun, Morgan’s a nightmare,” she rolled her eyes, adjusting her bag on her shoulder. “Med school Barbie totally cut me off in the parking lot and stole my spot a few days ago and she’s been irritating me ever since” Kaia complained, trying to not grit her teeth.  

“Exactly, you don’t have to label yourself any specific way if you don’t want to.  I agree with Kaia though, I don’t label my sexuality purely because I’d rather just fall in love with whoever I fall in love with.  But I’m sure we can find you some resources if you’d like to do more research on your own,” Neil offered gently as he took a sip of his coffee.

“And I’m always here for you if you want to talk to someone who’s not your attending,” Kaia said with a laugh, nudging Neil in his side. “Seriously, anything you need, just let me know,” she smiled, suddenly feeling very sentimental

“I’ll come check on you soon, ok?” he promised as he rose from the bed and straightened his slightly wrinkled clothes. “Get some rest,” Jared smiled down at Logan, “If you need anything, text me” 

“Yeah, I was diagnosed when I was four.  I have a tendancy to brush off my symptoms though,” Logan admitted with a blush before he nodded in agreement.  “I’m really excited as well.  I can’t wait to spend more time with you,”he smiled brightly before he moved the mask off of his face so he could get a drink of water.

“Sounds good, lemme go grab his tea and then we can head up?” Kaia suggested as she stood from the table, yawning slightly at the end. “Thank you again for the coffee and food Neil,” she said with a smile, touching his shoulder lightly

Jared cracked a small smile at Logan’s comment about kissing him. “I have a few more hours,” he said, checking his watch quickly, “I actually should head out and get back to work, but I’ll check on you in a bit? If you’re okay with that,”  he blushed, hoping he didn’t sound too needy. 

“Yeah, I was diagnosed when I was four.  I have a tendancy to brush off my symptoms though,” Logan admitted with a blush before he nodded in agreement.  “I’m really excited as well.  I can’t wait to spend more time with you,”he smiled brightly before he moved the mask off of his face so he could get a drink of water.

“Yeah, I’m really not good at emotions,”Jared laughed as he got up from the bed. “Yeah, lemme grab you one, hold up,” he said, pulling one from the drawer, and switching out the mask. “Is that better?” he asked, concerned 

“Yeah, I was diagnosed when I was four.  I have a tendancy to brush off my symptoms though,” Logan admitted with a blush before he nodded in agreement.  “I’m really excited as well.  I can’t wait to spend more time with you,”he smiled brightly before he moved the mask off of his face so he could get a drink of water.

Jared’s eyebrows shot up with surprise, “Are you kidding me? That’s amazing,” he laughed, “I’m going on a date with a supermodel,” Jared teased, “But in all seriousness, I’d love it if you were more open with me, we can work on that together,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly as he was not one to handle emotions well

Jared laughed and tousled Logan’s hair just to mess with him a little, “You look like you just walked off the runway,” he chuckled, enjoying being silly with him. “I know it’s hard to ask others for help, but if you ever need anything, just know that I’m here for you,” Jared smiled warmly at him, “Even if your hair looks like you walked through a tornado,” he teased.

Kaia dejectedly drank her decaf, trying to convince herself it was just as good at normal coffee, but brightened when Neil mentioned research. “I’m sure we can find you tons of great resources, researching this is important so you can get some clarity on what different terms mean,” she smiled at Shaun, who was looking less concerned by the minute. “Or if you’re feeling overwhelmed with info, you can always come to me to chat it out or ask questions,” Kaia offered warmly.

Jared frowned slightly, “You should really be careful with that though, it can get worse quickly if not addressed,” he said, giving Logan a small smile. “Your hair looks really good like that,” Jared lightly teased, the elastic from the mask making Logan’s hair disheveled when he took it off.

Jared gave a noncommittal hum as he thought to himself, “Have you always had asthma?” he asked Logan, smiling down at him. “I’m glad you usually bounce back quickly, I’m excited for our date,” Jared laughed lightly 

“It’s eight years.  I love pediatrics.  It was my senior year of high school, when I was applying for colleges that I decided to go to med-school.  My sister had just gotten a lung transplant and it made me realize I wanted to help kids like that some day,” Logan explained with a bright smile.  “Aren’t you kind of like an older brother to Shaun?”

He sighed deeply, trying to untie the knot in his stomach, “Yeah, you’re right, I’m just bummed you’re not feeling well and that there’s only so much I can do to help,” Jared admitted, pulling the blanket up closer around Logan 

“It’s eight years.  I love pediatrics.  It was my senior year of high school, when I was applying for colleges that I decided to go to med-school.  My sister had just gotten a lung transplant and it made me realize I wanted to help kids like that some day,” Logan explained with a bright smile.  “Aren’t you kind of like an older brother to Shaun?”

Jared felt a pang of guilt in his chest as he looked down at Logan. “I am so, so, unbelievably sorry about earlier and the misdiagnosis and everything,” he said with a deep frown. “I should have been more on top of things, but admittedly I was distracted,” Jared confessed. 

“It’s eight years.  I love pediatrics.  It was my senior year of high school, when I was applying for colleges that I decided to go to med-school.  My sister had just gotten a lung transplant and it made me realize I wanted to help kids like that some day,” Logan explained with a bright smile.  “Aren’t you kind of like an older brother to Shaun?”

He blushed a deep red, and gave a small laugh, “Eh, I guess I’m not too bad,” Jared replied, not used to receiving compliments. “How are you feeling now?” he asked, brushing a strand of hair out of Logan’s face

Kaia smiled gratefully at Neil when he returned with her food, “Yeah, I used to eat scrambled eggs like everyday because it was all I could afford and now they make me feel sick,” she laughed, starting to pick apart her bagel. “I also don’t really use labels, even when I had a girlfriend, I didn’t identify as bisexual, I just kinda left it open ended”  

“Yeah, mistakes can be a good thing. Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin when one of his Petri dishes got contaminated by mistake. Just think, without him making a mistake, antibiotics wouldn’t be this advanced. Some peoples mistakes have helped us get to where we are today,” Neil explained with a reassuring smile.

Jared laughed a little, “Uh, good question, I guess I don’t really tell people about my parents,” he paused, frowning slightly, “They weren’t great people and our relationship is tumultuous at best,” Jared admitted, rubbing the back of his neck uncomfortably 

“It’s eight years.  I love pediatrics.  It was my senior year of high school, when I was applying for colleges that I decided to go to med-school.  My sister had just gotten a lung transplant and it made me realize I wanted to help kids like that some day,” Logan explained with a bright smile.  “Aren’t you kind of like an older brother to Shaun?”
