Ayo it’s been awhile

Still not dead, just in my last semester of nursing school. What does that entail exactly? 12H clinical shifts (days and/or nights) twice a week at least and full classes Monday, Capstone research project in between, studying for the national exam, and of course, homework. My creativity is utterly drained right now and has been since school started back up, but I’m gonna try my best to get back into it. All the love!! ❤️

Currently working on the Kwamis and their powers, I think I’m going to release them all at once in one post. I won’t reveal holders but I’m going to reveal the traits Kwamis look for in their owners, and also what the disguised miraculous’ look like, so you guys can try and guess who has what! I based many of my choices based on Kwami preferences (in this AU, Kwamis are wise and ancient beings that choose their owners based on specific characteristics) except for those miraculous that were stolen/found.

I’m also having a lot of fun drawing Kwamis in disguised animal forms. Some are normal and cute, such as a cat and a dog, but some are totally absurd, like a tiger or a literal peacock? These rich kids have weird pets smh 😂

Just an fyi the theme song of this AU is “killing butterflies” by Lou Bliss (before I made this AU, I had this song assigned to the Reverse!Au, it so fits)

I’m obsessed with this song actually. I can picture a whole animation sequence in my head but it would take forever to animate that much (especially the chorus, just a battle montage). Maybe one day

I have other songs assigned to certain characters/ships but I’m not sure if I’m going to post them or not, but I will if you guys are interested! If you have recommendations I’d also love to hear them

Hi guys, sorry for being MIA, I’ve been sick and I’m finally starting to feel better!

I’m having major art block due to being overwhelmed with how large this project is and having no clue where to even start!! I kind of want to jump right into it and practice drawing the characters via mini side comics but I’m also scared and feel like I should prepare more/make character sheets/concept sheets ;-;

Introduction: Adrien Agreste

Hey fellow miraculers! Here’s Adrien and a little about how he’s going to be portrayed in this AU. I’ll list the characteristics and/or problems that I saw in the show and then delve into how I’m going to take things here. Most of the issues I found in his character is just that his issues aren’t really talked about, but the subtext of a great character is there and he definitely has main character potential

1. His outfit

This is honestly a budget issue/creating recognizable characters for the show, but like all characters, I want to see more Gabriel Agreste fashion on him.

2. Love interest or main character?

In the show, it’s said that he’s the main character, but he doesn’t appear as such. A lot of his emotions, struggles, and life isn’t delved into as much as Marinette, yet he has so much potential. He’s a teenage Rapunzel trapped in a tower waiting for his ladybug in shining armor to come save him. I want to explore not only his fears of losing his freedom, but also his experimentation with rebellion and standing up to his father.

3. Adrien as a Model

In the show, his life as a model isn’t talked about really much, he just thinks it’s boring and it’s a nuisance to him. However, with some research, I discovered how horrible it can be. For one, Adrien would become desensitized to personal space and being touched without permission, putting him into awkward positions in his job and even with classmates. He would get taken advantage of a lot easier. As a model and celebrity, Adrien would also experience Parasocial Confusion — which is when a celebrity has difficulty distinguishing between genuine personal connections/love and relationships/infatuations of fans. This would make relationships with him incredibly difficult.

Additionally, model assault is a huge thing in the fashion industry. Unfortunately, because Adrien is such a pushover and people pleaser, this puts him up to be a prime target for abuse that he probably thinks is just normal (yes this happens, I promise, it sucks.) I want to see a huge character arc with him learning about personal boundaries and learning how to enforce them, with his friends teaching him what is Ok and what is not socially.

4. His personality before his mother dies

If I’m not mistaken, I don’t think we ever get much insight into how Adrien is like before Emilie “disappears.” From what we know about her, she is a princess and an actress, which brings me to my headcanon:

Emilie brought Adrien up on broadway shows, fairytales, and romances — this would explain why he has an “old fashioned” ideology that “boys save girls” (S3E3). This would also explain his gentlemanly behavior— like he was literally written/taught his behavior by a princess (he was. Her name is Emilie).

Inspired by musical theatre and the arts, Adrien began to take dance classes, where he meets Chloe Bourgeois — Emilie is to blame for this, and Gabriel would rather him take fencing, but he gives in. Chloe and Adrien become childhood friends through dance and being partnered often is how they became so close. Based on his “breakdancing” moves as Chat Noir, I think it would also be reasonable that he took other forms of dance too, like hiphop.

As Emilie started to get sicker and sicker, his ambitions for dance and the arts faded. He began fencing like his father wanted to and abandoned dancing. He and Chloe still remained close friends — as this was the only friend he was allowed to have. Gabriel knew Chloe’s dad, after all.

Although Emilie was portrayed to be kind, beautiful, and caring, it’s easy to paint memories of a person better than they actually were. Although she was those things, Emilie also was dramatic, hotheaded, and emotional. If Adrien did something wrong, she’d be quick to scold him harshly, but then just as quick to apologize for her outburst. Toward the end of her life, she was also rather absent from Adrien’s life, as she didn’t have much energy to take care of him anymore. It was difficult for her to take care of him as she got more and more sick, and he would often try to be the best little boy he could because he didn’t want to be a burden on top of her sickness. I mean remember, the last 3 years his dad had gotten him a freaking PEN for his birthday. This occurred when Emilie was still alive.

The person who raised him the most was Nathalie — as his mother became weak, and Gabriel became absent

5. Mental health and coping so he isn’t akumatized

Headcanon that to keep himself from being akumatized, Gabriel has him talk to a counselor who prescribes him multiple medications that work a little TOO well. Meaning? Let’s just say that he starts to become numb to feelings and that it’s just another way for his father to control him — His rebellion streak is going to hit hard yo.

Despite these methods, he’s still going to get akumatized — don’t worry, no one is safe.

His mental health illnesses insinuated from the show include depression, ADHD, parasocial confusion, abandonment trauma, social anxiety disorder, attachment disorder/trauma (which leads to lack of boundaries), and to add some spice, probably claustrophobia (or just feeling trapped). This poor boy has so much he needs to shift through and I’m excited to guide him on an arc to healing.

Conclusion

I think Adrien is my favorite character simply because of how there are certain aspects of him that I heavily relate to — plus he’s such a kind soul who has every right to turn into a villain but stays a sunshine golden retriever boy. It takes a lot of strength and determination to go through so much and be good in the end. I can’t wait to write him in this AU and give the boy the healing and happiness he deserves. There’s so much more I could talk about with him, but this is just the beginning!

Gabriel Agreste Moodboards

Before I go into it, let me just say that I love a villain that is doing something that he thinks is right, or was created from the world around him (aka unbearable grief). I absolutely love that the whole reason Gabriel became a villain is because he lost the love of his life, it’s so tragic and understandable, and almost makes you feel bad for them.

Gabriel agreste used to be a good man. He was a simple tailor who had fallen in love with a princess, just like in a fairytale. He wanted to be a good father to his son, and he used to be. He used to be kind, understanding, and happy — but that was before Emilie became sick.

She was the love of his life, and he had to watch her fade before his eyes. As she slowly succumbed to her illness, so did he slowly fade into apathy. He tried to be a good father to his son, but it was incredibly hard when he could barely take care of himself. He couldn’t bear to go outside, talk to people, break the image of himself that he had spent so much time building up. He became engulfed into his work, and although he didn’t realize it, started to neglect his son as well. He couldn’t take how much Adrien reminded him of her, and the grief was unbearable.

Gabriel appears cold, ruthless, and arrogant. But this isn’t because he wants to be — it’s what the outside world expects from a wealthy fashion designer. They won’t take him seriously if he’s nice. He loves his son, and he wants to keep him safe, but the only way he can do that now is to keep him protected from the outside world. To do that, he must remain strict and hold him to a higher standard. He hopes his son knows that everything he does, he does out of love. He just wants them all to be happy again, and he doesn’t see how that can be done without Emilie. She was the parent that Adrien adored — not him.

But how far will Gabriel go before he’s realized that his obsession is endangering the people closest to him? How much is he willing to sacrifice?

so, swan lake themed miraculous ladybug episode -

There’s a ballet dancer, and she thinks she’s the best ballet dancer in paris, and she tries out for swan lake because she wants to be odette. She is not cast as odette, and she’s so angry that she gets akumatized about it. 

While that’s happening, there’s a loosely swan-lake themed plotline where adrien sees a girl he thinks is ladybug - but he’s not sure. she’s got black pigtails and everything and he risks being late to class in order to follow her down a couple streets, trying to get a good look, to see if she’s ladybug. he eventually has to go to class but it’s bothering him that he wasn’t SURE if it was ladybug. He wonders if they’re not soul mates bc he can’t recognize ladybug on the street, or something. 

Class is interrupted for an akuma attack. The akuma is the black swan, who dances around paris terrorizing everyone and insisting she’s the best ballet dancer in paris: 

She challenges everyone to a dance, and magics them into compliance, and then insists that she’s a better dancer than them. Once she’s established she’s a better dancer, she announces that they can’t dance the role of odette, and instead she magically casts them as minor roles in swan lake. like, the cignettes, or the national dancers, or something. They have to go around dancing like their role. (Chloe gets recast as a jester, and she does very funny jumps and leaps and hates it) 

Enter ladybug and chat noir: they see people dancing and leap into action! chat noir goes in for a pretty simple strike but as soon as he gets within like, 10 feet of the black swan, she challenges him to dance and he’s like, ‘no way!’ but she says ‘then why are you already on pointe’ and he looks down and he is indeed already on his tip toes, ready to dance, so he tip-toes away from her as fast as possible to avoid confrontation and casting. 

ladybug and chat noir can’t fight her because they can’t get close enough without being invited to dance. Ladybug casts lucky charm to help and her lucky item is a macaron. Indeed, the solution is to feed the kwamis magical ballet themed kwami transformers, or whatever that stuff is. yknow like in frozer. They turn into ballet dancers, with magical ballet outfits, that look like odette and siegfried. i drew ladybug’s but chat noir’s came out bad. please someone else draw it. hes gotta be wearing tights and a little prince jacket… anyways,  ladybug -

As ballet dancers, chat noir and ladybug challenge the black swan to a dance. They do the pas de deux from act 2 across the rooftops, and kick black swan’s ass. I don’t know how but i imagine them doing this thing where odette falls backwards and siegfried has to move to catch her. But off of buildings. And still with the grace and control of ballet dancers. 

Black swan is forced to admit that….. she is NOT the best ballet dancer. She surrenders, and ladybug is able to break her akumatized ballet slippers and free her. 

Chat noir, overcome with the romance of their dance, gets all starry-eyed at ladybug. She is like okay… see you later then…. and he says ‘yeah… <3<3<3…’ and when he transforms back he talks to plagg all dreamy-eyed about how the girl he saw earlier wasn’t ladybug because when he meets ladybug there will be no doubt he’ll recognize her instantly.

I just thought of a headcanon for Adrien — what if he is actually a great dancer

Like, imagine he took ballet and dance for years for the strength and grace of it, and he can just break out into fouettés like it’s nothing, has incredible technique, but does absolutely nothing with it. His mom was an actress, I refuse to believe that she didn’t raise him on broadway musicals and wanted him to be a theatre kid.

Could explain that how as Chat Noir, he is naturally graceful but also breaks out into dance for fun (he is “acting natural”)

Ballet is also very classy, so maybe Emilie convinced Gabriel to see the Nutcracker as a family, and Adrien suddenly wanted to be a dancer when he was little. Or maybe Emilie was a dancer as well as an actress and that sparked the flame in little Adrien’s heart.

So one day he’s asked to dance maybe for an audition or for his friends, or of that context, and he goes “I’ll try my best!” Like he’s embarrassed. But he breaks out a whole ass musical number from Newsies or better yet, the male variation from Le Corsaire. Men in ballet are absolutely incredible and I will not hear anyone out.

And if this was true, I feel like Marinette would be determined to learn Ballet so that she could convince Adrien to learn a pas de deux with her to be close to him.

But maybe after his mother died/became sick, his ambitions for dance also died with her.

Almost like how Kagami loves to figure skate — but it’s a “just for fun” thing and not something she would compete in. Maybe dance is his “just for fun” thing that he lost a long time ago.

Or maybe I’m just inserting myself into the narrative a little too much with my bias and love for ballet as an art. Would make a cute little side episode tho

Luka Moodboards

Anyway.

Luka is one of the most laidback guys that anyone may ever meet. Although he is shy and quiet, he is very grounded within himself and the world. He has severe social anxiety — in which he self-medicates with cigarettes and marijuana blunts. Smoking also helps him to hear the world’s melodies a little bit clearer and fine-tune the music he writes for others. He is a man of little words— but words that have tremendous meaning and depth. Despite how quiet he is, his favorite genre of music is Rock in any form. He feels this way because he hears the most emotion and feeling in the rock songs he listens to, and not only likes songs for their depth, but for the way it makes him feel. There’s nothing that he dislikes more than music without meaning.

A flaw that he has is that because of his social anxiety and chill demeanor, he goes with the flow, even if things hurt him directly. He doesn’t stand up for himself and would rather get hurt himself if it means avoiding conflict. However, when it comes to others, he is the biggest advocate. His biggest downfall is that after he graduated college, he’s had little motivation to do anything else with his life besides music. He wants to be a rock and roll star one day — but has not strived to aim for a job with a steady means of income, or stability in general. He is so motivated to make it in music, he doesn’t have a backup plan. He still lives on a boat with his mother when he’s not working as a newspaper delivery boy, and tries to land guitar gigs when he has the chance. Despite what his friends say about his life, he is calm and relaxed. He believes that things happen for a reason, and what’s fate is fate, so there’s no sense in worrying about things that are beyond your control.

Kagami Moodboard

So pretty :D

Kagami, similar to Chloe, has spent her whole life berated by her Mother. However, unlike Chloe, the product she became is a well behaved little soldier that hides her emotions and follows her mother’s orders, less she wants to be reprimanded.

To others, Kagami can come across as unfeeling and cold. Her words are blunt, to the point, which means that she can sometimes unintentionally offend people. Her mother is the sole dictator of her life, and as she became older, she has started to resent that.

Because of her strict upbringing, Kagami became rebellious. She fights against her culture — which tells her that family is everything and mothers must be obeyed — and her inner heart, which is yearning for the excitement of rebellion and lying in order to get out of boring routines.

Above all, she wants to be the best at everything. She knows that is the only way to make her mother proud, and she knows that failure to be the best would bring her family name great shame. When she sets her mind to something, there is barely anything that she can’t do.

Fuuuck, such a sad but good headcanon

Sometimes I think about how Adrien must grieve

How, when he lost his mother, it was a gradual thing, where he lost more and more of her, where he was slowly prepared for an eventuality and a future in which she would not be there anymore. How it was longstanding and tormenting and how his grief began long before the day he would never see her again. How though the pain of loss must have been sharp and aching for him, and he must desperately miss Emilie, at least he achieved some solace in not having to see her in pain anymore.

But then once he's reached a healthy stage and coping style in his grief for Emilie, the wounds are reopened once again.

How his father went from existing to suddenly being gone to Adrien. How he had no warning, no indication that he would never see him again. How even though the grief is sudden and unexpected, it had really started months before Gabriel was gone, and even long before he became injured.

It's how despite the fact that Gabriel was seemingly in good health, and Adrien had no reason to fear losing him, Adrien has actually been grieving for Gabriel and their relationship for a long time. How Adrien has had to watch his father slip away, lose himself, and slowly give less and less of himself over to Adrien, until Adrien could hardly recognize the man that was supposed to be sitting across the table from him.

Sometimes I just think about how grief became a comfort for Adrien, a lifestyle, because he has been taught that all good things in his life, all things he loves, must come to an end eventually.

And I think about how that must affect him as a person.
