re-reading old comments (and new) on Parallax and we were faster on our feet. and I miss those fics - I miss writing those fics. that's the thing they don't tell you about fic-writing; you'll sometimes start to miss the world of the story. the feelings you felt while settling into the characters.
#i need to write more#went back to school and it took over my life and now i'm lifting my head up and trying to take count of what i lost#i had old drafts and outlines but i lost a good majority of it for parallax so i'm starting again from scratch.#but we'll make it. we always do.#from the author

This week, I read a fic that was around 20 years old, which had originally been posted on the author's personal website and which she added to AO3 a few years ago. She listed her email address with the fic, so after I finished reading, I sent her an email saying how much I enjoyed the story, how much I appreciated the work and effort she obviously put into it, and thanked her for uploading it to AO3. She responded the next day and thanked me for my message, then said she had a few more stories in the same series that she hadn't gotten around to uploading. I checked this morning--she added a 35,000 word novella and thanked me in the summary.
👏 comment 👏 on 👏 old 👏 fics 👏

it’s almost midnight but i am here on Tumblr Dot Com to let everyone know that a fantastic and underused trope is “uses terms of endearment only when under huge amounts of stress.”
Like some character is fairly formal or is just not a pet names person but then they get a panicked phone call from a loved one and the first words out of their mouth are “Sweetheart, what happened?”
Team “I-only-ever-use-your-first-name” going “Oh, jesus fuck, love, I’m so glad you’re safe” or “Okay, darling, you know I love you but I need some space to fix this giant mess” and everyone around them is like “oh god we have reached Pet Names Level Bad, that’s not good”
this is the new trope I am championing, I would like it to be the Hot New Thing

hihi!! i recently discovered your work parallax and it’s so good! you’re amazing at writing, and i love the science references throughout it :3 i was wondering how did you get “good” with physics? i’m currently taking physics in school, and your work has made me a LOT more interested in it, but im not sure where to start with studying/researching it. sorry for rambling, and hope this doesn’t sound too weird!!
I'm sorry I missed your ask until now!! Real Life has gotten very busy for me so I'm not as online anymore.
Thank you for the compliment - I'm flattered! But I don't know if I ever got "good" with physics. I took my first physics class in high school, so I've done it for a long time, but I was never the top of my class. I did go to engineering school for my bachelor's, so I got decent at physics, but I would say that came from a lot of practice and trial-and-error. Like many things in life, I believe that being "good" at physics (or any other science/engineering field in general) is a skill, not a talent.
I found that framing the dry physics equation into real-life problems to be most fun and motivating for studying. For example, how do airplanes fly? How do rail guns work? How does light bend around corners? (The answer to these questions are: aerodynamics, electromagnetism, and diffraction.)
For more academic pursuits, there's great online guides and websites, like this one, which show the relationship between all the different fields as well as detail some of the basic equations for them. I also watched (and still watch) a lot of science Youtube channels, like 3Blue1Brown (he has a separate playlist for physics but his other content is also quite good). The beauty of science fields like physics is that you can go super deep into one niche thing and still feel like you're barely scratching the surface!
I also found it super comforting to know that most collegiate researchers in the science and engineering fields are super nerds. So if you're on a college campus, try reaching out to your physics department, walk around during a master's poster presentation session (those are likely public and free), or attend a lab open house day. More often than not, the people working on various physics (and other science) topics will be happy to introduce you. :)

Hi hello i know it's 2024 and Things have happened in this fandom but there's been a thought brewing in my head for a while and i need to ask.
Are you ok with physical copies of your fanfics (in this case, odcysm specifically) being made? And by this i ofc mean done at home, no third party companies and no profit off of the bind.
I love your work and i'm sorry if you've answered this before
I'm very flattered you're even considering it! You have my blessing to make it into a physical copy for personal use. Although years have passed (oh wow!) since I wrote it, and things sure have happened in that fandom space, I hope the story still brings you joy. Thank you for checking in. <3
#answered#anon ask#anonymous#i happened to check my tumblr for a different reason and i'm very glad i realized you'd sent an ask!#i've been very offline recently due to Real Life Stuff :')

So I wanted to ask if "we were faster on our feet" and "here comes the rain" are dead/abandoned or will be updated in future?
I am so sorry I am so late to replying to this. I have no idea when this hit my inbox. I am currently packing to move, but I remembered this Tumblr existed, and I wanted to say: they're not abandoned at all! I am simply a Slow Writer! I have the whole plot outlined for them and one day both "we were faster on our feet" and "here comes the rain" will be updated and finished!!

There is something so special about teen superhero team dynamics, from Power Rangers to magical girls and everything in between.
I help you fight evil. I let you sleep on my lap when we get back home. I know everything about you, things your parents never will. We've almost died together. We study for tests together. We are discovering ourselves. I hope I still know you in ten years. You turned evil once. I still got you a birthday present.
