I know I have been MIA for a while, I’m sorry about that! I am going to put more effort in being present on here and showing you guys what I’ve been up to! I love this photo because a lot of times we only get to see the ends and middles of my lash sets because of the angles that I ALWAYS take them from. But in this photo you can look over at the other eye and see exactly how I like to shape the inner corners. I always size down 5-6 sizes from my longest length. So if I’m doing a 15mm Kitten-Eye, my shortest inner lash would be a 9mm/10mm. If I did 14mm, I would bring it down to 8mm/9mm. I love that much size difference because it makes the longest length look that much longer and the eye that much more structured. It’s hard to build a shape and see a lash length difference when your shortest and longest lash lengths are only 4mm difference. I hope this makes sense when you read it because it fully makes sense in my head but I’m a just lash artist, not a English major! Also, make sure to follow my new business venture, TEETH WHITENING! Hashtag Macro Lens. Here is my Macro Lens Lash Pic. I was feeling a little left out not having one so I jumped on @amazon and ordered my lens kit. It also came with a wide lens and a fisheye lens(which I used yesterday to take a pic of the lash studio, It’s on my story) I do enjoy the close up showing the fluffiness of the lash itself. However, I always see beauty in the entire lash as a whole, how the sizes melt together and the lash looks complete, and you just don’t get that with this view. So that’s that. But anyways! I know I went over coverage before in a previous post and I mentioned how I “always” lash 100% of the outer lashes. However, when you see this video, watch it and enjoy it to its max because it’s so satisfying! BUT, the second or third time through, focus on the outer corner. Notice that there are 2-3 natural lashes that I didn’t lash. This is a regular client of mine and I have been lashing her for the past 7 months. I used to lash those but they would bother her so now I leave those empty and when she opens her eyes. It still looks 100% full, without the annoying lashes on the ends that turn down. Sometimes, depending on how your clients eyes are shaped and how they react to the common art of blinking (lol) you might not want to go as far out. Also on your Asian clients, you also can’t go too far in on their inner lashes because they have “flatter” eyes and this will cause irritation. So with my Asian girls I can go a little less as far in on the inner lashes , but I will angle them towards the nose more to create the look and feel that I went all the way in. If this caption is totally going over your head, save it and then continue lashing for another 2-4 months and then come back and revisit this post; it should make more sense. Lashing is all about experience. There are so many different types of eyes and the more eyes you do the better you will become. In the beginning it’s a lot of trial and error and the way I learned the most is I would constantly talk to other lash artists. I still do to this day and share my experiences and what worked for me and they do the same and it really makes everyone better, including myself. If you’re the type of artist that Hoards information and doesn’t share and doesn’t want to help others, you’ll be very lonely and will eventually stop progressing and plateau. And Plateauing (idk if that’s a word) has to be one of the worst things to happen to you as an artist. Because usually after a plateau, you go back down. Long story short, share and collaborate with others, it’ll benefit you so much!! I don’t really know what to post as a caption with this photo... But I do appreciate amazing lash photos. As a busy and booked lash artist, it’s hard for me to stay on my after photos and I always think of taking the “Before photo” half way through the new set🙄 But I know how important it is to take photos. Not only for potential clients to see your work, but also, and more importantly, for yourself! A lot of times us, as lash artists, forget to check on our own progress. And when we work for ourselves, it’s hard to see growth because your have no one else to compare your work to; So photos are the best ways to tell. Also videos because you can truly see how good your isolation and angle placement of each fan is through videos. You’re able to see how the lash itself moves and whenever you have the wrong angles on a lash placement, you’ll see it stick out like a sore thumb in a video. Photos are great to show texture, and shape. I recently ordered a SD card reader that plugs into your iPhone, which will allow me to use my Canon camera with ease. I usually revert back to the iPhone photos because of the ease of having the photo ready to post instantly. But now with the card reader, I will be able to have clearer photos with better quality with the same ease of use! Also, I shoot with a Canon Rebel T5i These card readers can be bought from @apple Side Note: I don’t recommend getting the one from @amazon , because the card reader doesn’t work as good as the one straight from Apple! Lashology- The Study Of Lashes (& Lash Photos) Here is a little break down of my latest lash photo. I can tell that there was a little bit of texture. To create “texture with shape”, I include a 2mm difference in length. So if a particular section of the lash map is 15mm, I will also include 13mm lashes in that same section as well. From this photo I can also tell that the inner lashes are tappered down. Even when doing a Textured look, I still make sure that the inner and outer tapper are still clean. I can also tell that the longest length is in the middle of the eye. This allows the eyes to fully open up. And it also makes sure that the length isn’t in the ends, causing the eye to drop. And the last thing that I can tell is that this all created a Dark Lash Line. Using 0.03mm lashes almost always always give you a dark lash line. However, sometimes when your clients doesn’t have enough natural lashes to create that dreaming thick black liner look, include some shorter fans in the mix of longer lengths. Who doesn’t love a good C-Curl lewk? Out of all my 94 clients, I have 1 girl that gets a C-Curl; My beautiful client @stella.komihair The reason why her overall look looks like it’s a CC Curl ( which is curlier than a C and looser than a D) is because her natural lashes have an intense curl to it already. So when we did the D Curl on her, it was too much Curl. But when we placed the C Curl, it was a match made in heaven! Artists, it’s important to make sure you have all curls ready because when your client comes in asking for a certain alteration, you need to make sure you’re ready to provide her with the fix. Something I want to talk about in this post is your timing while lashing. It’s very important to start tuning yourself. Whether you AR just starting or you have been lashing, time your appointments and write it down. That way you can better schedule yourself. You’ll waste less time and eventually be able to fit in 1-3 more girls a day, which all adds up! Also during my fills, to keep me on time, i break my fills and time in half. So if i book a one hour fill and start at 1:00pm, I make sure that the entire inner half of the eyes are done by 1:30. Then I move the tape and work on the outer half for the rest of the time. If it’s a new set, and I have slotted myself 2.5 hours and start at 1:00 pm, I’ll tape the outer corner and lash that and make sure to be done by 1:30, then I’ll tape the inners and make sure I’m done with the inners by 2:30, then that leaves me with the last hour to lash the entire middle section, which should be the longest length in the set. Breaking the fills and new sets up like this not only makes it seems less complicated, but it’s almost like a game to beat the time and will leave you on time and having a smooth sailing day, all while allowing you to fit as much girls in your daily schedule. The headband helps because her hair won’t touch my face while I’m lashing and it’s very cozy and comforting for my girls as well. The blanket helps to keep her comfortable and from not shivering. You’re never too good to practice. Here is a sponge that I lashed while I had a no show. Yes, a no show. Let’s go off in that direction for a little while. A lot of you, artists, might think that you’re the only ones dealing with flakey clients, but trust me, you’re not alone. Even super booked artists like myself deal with it here and there. And after she didn’t show up, I tried to move someone up to take her spot or call in one of my girls on my waiting list, and nothing, no one could move earlier or make it in to the salon in time. So I was stuck with a 2 hour gap and I decided to do this. Practice. (I also was able to order inventory) but the main thing that I’m trying to get to is that when all things go south, make the best of it and make a bomb IG post that will get you 10 more good solid clients! On this sponge I did all mega volume fans using Supreme Silk lashes from @lashboxla in 0.03mm C Curl. The outer row is 14mm and the inner row is 13mm. Working with a sponge to make this is different than lashing natural lashes. The fans aren’t able to wrap anything so they tend to look funnier than how they would look like on a real lash set. You also have to hold the fan in place for 1-2 seconds longer than you normally would because it’ll flop over if you don’t. You also want you’re glue to be older and tackier when doing these sponges. So I literally use the glue dot until it’s totally gone, where as in a real set, I would change the glue once it started becoming thick. It shows how light weight these lashes are and how they more with ease and stay perfect throughout. A lot of times we just see lashes from a still; and we maybe think to ourselves “well it could have been all placed perfectly before the shot, but I wonder what it looks like in real life?” Well, here it is ! Kyndal was also the very first girl I ever lashed and until this day she still allows me to lash her. Artists, be grateful for the girls who believed in your from day one even when you sucked! They are the real MVP. I still have about five girls that have been with me since I was doing lashes out of my walk in closet in my master bedroom.
