(Alone Together) ² premieres at ODC Theater Festival
Spending many hours in a place can have two effects on person - it becomes too predictable and ceases to evolve; or you become curious about what else it has to offer.  Catherine Galasso’s (Kat) work Alone Together, which I had the pleasure of performing in with a brilliant cast, evoked the latter reaction. We the cast were a group of people in a theater that many of us had performed in, watched performances in, or worked for in various capacities. With some much history, what could we make that felt both unique and specific to this space?
While we weren’t able to come together for the remount due to the pandemic, Kat always manages to find a way to bring people together. And so (Alone Together) ² came to be. Part-documentary, part-mystery poem, the film includes both spoken and embodied reflections on our time together.
It premieres tonight June 4, 2021 at 6PM (PDT) as part of ODC Theater’s Festival, with streaming access available through June 30th.

EPOCH Sneak Peek - via Twitch
I’ve been holding on to a large box for the entirety of the pandemic. It became of symbol of artistic possibility, a partner with which to improvise during the endless days and nights of urban quarantine. With quarantine behind us (for now), it’s time to part ways.
The box came from Malaysia, likely from a factory, across the ocean in a dark container. Then it spent months in my Oakland apartment. The least I could do was give it a proper send off. In nature, surrounded by beauty, with all the time in the world, we shared one last dance, and said goodbye.
The result will be streamed as part of Choreographer Christy Funsch’s 12-hour EPOCH, a slow tv-like experiment featuring recorded and live contributions by 14+ artists.
Tune in, or out, then again in, and out, and in, at your leisure. EPOCH will stream on Saturday May 22,2021 from 9AM - 9PM (Pacific Time) on Twitch at: https://www.twitch.tv/funschdance

Let Slip the Witches (2019)
In April of 2019, I stepped in for a close friend in Amy Foley’s Let Slip the Witches. The material, developed over the course of a year, was intricate and powerful, full of heart and drama. My practice during shelter-in-place has become a combination of sounding, somatics, and 80′s aerobics. It was nice to watch this and relive what it was like to inhabit a dancing body. And be in a theater!
Also, Sarah JG Chenoweth had some really nice words to say about the evening and the work.

In November 2018, I had the pleasure of performing in choreographer Aura Fischbeck’s DUSK. Throughout 2018, we worked consistently and rigorously with improvisational scores, as a foundation for movement invention and choreographic structure, tuning our awareness to the subtle shifts that happen in the body, in space, in community during this magical time of the day when the sun goes down.
Julian Carter reflected on this work for SF Dance Matters.

Upcoming Performance - Hope Mohr Dance presents extreme lyric I
The Greek poet Sappho is credited with inventing the “lyric I,” a point of view anchored in the first person singular. Sappho writes about the urgent needs of the body. How can we accept her invitation into embodiment? extreme lyric I is inspired by and features Anne Carson’s translations of Sappho. It is a conversation between contemporary gender identities and an ancient approach to ecstasy performed for small audiences in the round.
