It’s hard to believe that we returned to Peru one year ago today - especially during this space time continuum of COVID-19 and endless months of quarantining at home. Even though we returned to the same city and same apartment, this year has been very different from our first 8 years here. We returned to a new ministry partner with new roles and this time, and now with a 3 year old! Our monthly bus trips and flights from before have been replaced with weekly park explorations (pre-COVID, of course). Like everybody, this past year has been very different than we expected - ministry programs have been delayed or completely restructured for Zoom, Will’s first year of preschool changing from in-person to completely online and we’ve spent more time in Lima (and at home!) then we ever have before. Despite all of the uncertainty and change that has been 2020, we’re happy to be back in Lima and closer to friends that we still just see on FaceTime and Zoom for right now 🤦🏻‍♀️ 😕 #littlewilliamnoah #preCOVIDphoto https://instagr.am/p/CFNiQEID91_/

The entire country of Peru has been on total lockdown since Wednesday evening and it will last through tomorrow, Saturday morning. Absolutely all stores are closed and the only reason people are allowed out of their house during total lockdown is for medical emergencies. On Wednesday, the President of Peru announced that the mandatory quarantine will extend two more weeks through April 26, giving us a total of 6 weeks at home so far. We are grateful for our health and safety, but there are rough days when we all lose our patience with each other. It’s hard being stuck inside our apartment all the time. Yesterday, on our way back to Lima we stopped for lunch along the Panamerican Highway. The restaurant happened to use the same @ikeausa high chair that Will used to have in the States and we left behind. He was about 20 feet away looking at a fountain as I grabbed the highchair and brought it to the table. When he saw me set it down, my first thought was that he was going to complain about having to sit in a high chair (he’s mostly been using a booster seat or regular chair here), but instead he ran over towards us saying “my chair! my chair!” We set him in the high chair and he kept running his hands over the tray and swinging his legs. // In all of the transition and new that Will has experienced over the last 3 months of living in Lima, he was excited for something familiar - even if it was as simple as a high chair. I sometimes forget that this life is pretty much all new for him despite being born here and returning to the same apartment and seeing the same friends. He has taken all this change in stride and we are proud of our little boy. He surprises us every day. #littlewilliamnoah https://ift.tt/2SirUdf
