Meet the Hogwarts Founders!!!

I did some light research and cross-referenced name meanings and origins with ethnicities and locations, soooooo here’s what the Hogwarts Founders look like!!

According to my research:

1.  Godric Gryffindor

“Godric” is mid-English and German, and more specifically, Anglo-Saxon. So he is most likely tall, pale, with straight/curly blonde (or possibly red) hair, and has light-colored eyes. He also probably has high cheekbones and a high forehead,

Sooooo something along the lines of this:

2. Helga 

“Helga” is both German and Scandinavian. I went with the Scandinavian option for reasons you’ll see later in this post. So, following that train of thought, she should be tall, with straight blonde hair, blue eyes, a straight nose, and thin lips.

 (Tbh, I always envision her to be a beautiful black woman who doesn’t take sh*t from anyone, but I’ll let this blonde-haired, blue-eyed-ness slide since this post is just me conveying what I searched on the internet)

So, according to my research, she should look similar to this:

3. Rowena Ravenclaw

“Rowena” has German roots---the reason I went with the Scandinavian-headcannon for Helga because I like the idea of the founders being different ethnicities, but maybe that’s just me. Rowena would have fair skin, straight brown (light or dark) hair, thick eyebrows, brown or blue eyes, an angular and wide jaw, straight nose, and would be tall (around 5′11)

4. Salazar Slytherin

“Salazar” comes from a region near Portugal and Spain---specifically Burgos. I went with the Portuguese route, but honestly Spanish would work really great, too. He’d have a more Mediterranean look, with brown hair and eyes, prominent cheekbones, and of a height shorter than 6 feet. (And therefore is probably shorter than Rowena Ravenclaw, which I thought was funny haha)

Anyway, I hope that if you saw this, that you liked it or thought it was interesting! I’ve been thinking about writing a fic about these guys, so maybe stick around for that?

[Drawn late Nov. 2021] This is as close to a face reveal y’all are gonna get for a while, haha. I used a pic that I took when I first got my braces off and used it as reference to draw this in my style. I only ended up tracing the edges of the nose and the base line art for the mouth, because those are the things I struggled with the most. 

This was also another attempt to try different art techniques---for shading, backgrounds, line art shades, metallic items (like the necklace), blurred vs. focused povs, lighting, and more!

[Drawn Nov. 2021] Drawing the Lore Olympus Characters Part 3: Minthe! 

Anyone else have complicated feelings when it comes to her? Like, I hated her so much throughout the series and then when we got her backstory I still hated her but I felt bad for her. And then as Thetis manipulates her even more, I just got more conflicted cause I wanted to hate her but I kinda felt bad for her even more now. Either way, I think we can all agree, she’s a really well-developed character! She does such a great (but also infuriating) job helping the plot along! 

Also, I know she doesn’t canonically have pierced ears, but I just felt like having several piercings on her long ears made sense!

[Drawn Nov. 2021] Hades and Persephone (from “Lore Olympus”) Part 2: Past Personas! 

I wanted to make an allusion to their old selves (where the trauma started for them, honestly) with their original names; Persephone, who was Kore, and Hades---Aidoneus. I loved being able to get creative and put their past selves as reflections in the office buildings in the background and in the foreground.

[Drawn Nov. 2021] I drew Persephone and Hades from the webtoon, “Lore Olympus”!

I tried to maintain elements from the webtoon’s particular style---i.e. the characters’ colors, styles of dress, and the line art with black in the middles and colors on the outer-most sides where the backdrop overlaps. The background is one of the office buildings of the Underworld Corp as well as some ghosts photo-bombing them in the background (that’s what the hands are, haha). (Also, yes, the pictures are made so that they [Hades and Persephone] are looking at each other)

I tried to draw Hades’s long nose, but it just looked so weird in my art style. so I switched it out for a normal nose, sorry! Hopefully, I can perfect anatomy and do his glorious nose justice!

[Made Oct. 2021] I drew this for my AP Eng. Lit class---this is Leah from “The Poisonwood Bible.” This was my first real attempt at shading and sunflares! 

I also tried a new art style for this one (the eyes are different---I didn’t actually draw pupils. I just outlined where they would be and colored it darker) 

It was cool to try a new style, but I didn’t end up keeping the eye technique because it kinda took the personality out of the drawing for me, so I don’t really continue the style in my other artwork, but at least I tried it!
