a/n: i know, i know... i am a liar and a fraud (i didnt update for like 2 months). in my defense, i am fighting for my lifeeeee in one of my classes to go up those two decimals to get the A... not sure if it'll happen, sigh. plus i'm giving tutoring and am knee-deep in my practicum... but enough excuses, here's an update! (we are ignoring that i forgot to crop the last image ok? ok. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF ANY LINKS ARE BROKEN, i changed my username and plenty of the posts are still messed up (mostly because i used at. links.... my bad.)

one of the funniest things about Scaramouche's Ominous Fandango is that it isn't in triple time, and it isn't a traditional fandango with castanets or other typical accompaniment. So the fandango part has nothing to do with the music, it's literally just a reference to Bohemian Rhapsody lol

DISC 1 - Track 6 : Oh, no!

"Hey." Kuni beats you to the punch and calls you first, right as you're halfway through typing in his number. You pry Paimon off the edge of your bed, and luckily the cat is too sleepy to put up much of a fight; you let her loose into the main living room area, closing the door gently afterwards.

"Hi," you mumble into the phone. "It's super late. Are you okay?"

"I'm doing just fine," he says in that condescending tone of his, though you also know there's no real malice behind it. "In fact, I just finished a productive session for my album."

"Oh!" You're moving to lay in bed, but you perk up at his words. "That's great news, Kuni!"

He hums in agreement, and you smile. You only know the bits and pieces about songwriting sessions from what you've learned online and what him and the other 4nemo members have told you over the years. You've never had the luck to sit in on one. (Yet, you promise yourself mentally.)

"I wanted to ask for outside opinions." You hear him shifting, and surmise that he's probably either still in the studio, or only just leaving.

"Careful on your way home," you say. "And sure, I don't mind." You glance at the time on your phone. "But, uh, it should probably be quick. I've got an 8am class... That's gonna be hard to wake up for."

Kunikuzushi is surely rolling his eyes.

"If your situation is so desperate, maybe don't reply to my message," he says.

"I can't leave you on read!" You gasp dramatically. "The other 5wirlies would kill me!"

"They wouldn't lay a finger on you." You hear him huff. "They wouldn't dare."

You chuckle at that. He's playing it off, but in his own way, he's showing he cares. It's so early (late for him, you suppose, since he isn't even in bed yet) that even Kuni's emotions are starting to seep through the cracks. "You gonna defend me from the hordes?"

That gets a laugh from him. "No," he answers. "I'm not getting between 4nemo fans and whatever they're dog-piling onto online for the day. You'll be fine on your own."

"You mean you won't put yourself in the warpath of your own 5wirlies?" You laugh. "Smart choice." You wave your hand, even though you know he can't see you right now. "Now, back to the topic...?"

Kuni hums low into the receiver. "I'm thinking of following a narrative. It's about personal growth and realizations." You hear a jingling through the phone, and you wonder if you're hearing his keys. "Since you're my self-declared top fan, I figured you might have some insight into whether something more reflective like that would resonate with my fanbase."

Your heart blooms with warmth, and you grin.

"I am your number one fan," you repeat. "And yeah, your part of the fandom will absolutely eat that up. We love seeing deeper glimpses of who you are." You tap your chin with your index finger. "That's my 5wirlie opinion. But from a more personal standpoint, I also think it's always a good thing to do. Explore your experiences and emotions, I mean."

Kuni hums thoughtfully. "You're very emotional, so that's to be expected." His jab earns a heartfelt laugh from you.

"I'm not overly emotional," you reply. "It's good to show your feelings every now and then, you know."

Kuni is silent for a few moments.

"Yeah," he agrees finally, "I know. Why do you think I'm doing all of this?"

"I don't know... For funzies?"

He sighs deeply, eliciting another laugh from you. Paimon begins scratching at the door, and you clamp a hand over your mouth.

"Oops! I'm being too loud."

"That word should have died in middle school. Why is it still in your vocabulary?"

"What word?" You open the door and Paimon bolts back inside, hissing at you for daring to take so long to let her back in. "Oops?"

"No. 'Funzies.'" Oh, you can just imagine the face he's pulling, having to clarify that. You giggle.

"It's a good word."

He sighs again. "Whatever. It's late. Go to bed, Y/N." You giggle again, but a glance at the clock shows you he's right: It's almost 3:30, and you are going to have a lot of trouble waking up in a few hours.

"All right, all right." You shift your phone to the other ear, more for something to do and waste time than anything else; you're reluctant to say goodbye, even though you know you ought to hang up. "I guess this wasn't so bad. But don't make a habit of calling me so late!"

"Then don't pick up," he replies evenly. You roll your eyes. "Good night, Y/N."

"Good night, Kuni," you say. "Get some rest, okay?" He chuckles.

"Sure, but I'm not the one who has to wake up in five hours."

"Less than that." You groan. "It's gonna be miserable."

"Then don't let me keep you." Kuni takes matters into his own hands and hangs up. You smile fondly at your phone, wondering if you should send another cat pic to him for the heck of it, but a cursory glance at the time has you shuffling back under your sheets and hitting the light.

"Good night, Kuni," you mumble to your phone before putting it down.

a/n: im alive and well! i have passed my first two exams of the semester and i couldn't be happier! i'm working hard, so updates will be fewer and further between, but i promise i have the whole au planned out, so it won't be too much of a wait. have a good one~
