my most controversial take probably ever but i hate mutt i really can't stand him at all. even if i do his quest to get him back i always send him to stay at the forge/inn and i get annoyed every time i see him coz his mechanics are awful and his companion functions are horribly implemented and even petting him is extremely annoying to do and glitched tf out 80% of the time. sometimes i even get annoyed when i see him in fan content like not always but why is he so often there in explicit fanworks??? like that's just gross i'm sorry. henry would kill me for saying this but i must live honestly

I’ve recently seen so much about the monastery quest in KCD1 and how much people loved it and there is some insane fanart with Pious and Henry and I desperately wish I enjoyed that quest back when I played KCD1 but I’m too damn impatient and the monastery made me feel like I was working a JOB which I was not about. So I ended up just reading the Prior’s journal to narrow down who it was, found a lockpick to sneak out and get my gear and murdered Pious in his sleep and now I feel like I was a psychopath. I’m so sorry, Pious!

I find headcanons about Istvan being abusive and cruel to Erik unbearably boring. Yeah, that's what a grooming relationship usually looks like. But isterik is unusual and interesting precisely because they don't behave with each other the way you'd expect them to.

Erik SHOULD be fawning and groveling before Istvan, but he doesn't. We see him calmly accept Istvan's tenderness and care, as if it were natural for them to express it so openly. It seems absurd that something so unhealthy could contain so much love, but that's the whole point.

i like interacting with the VAs on twitter but the large majority of people on there are just interaction baiting for screenshots of the VAs liking their tweets and making borderline inappropriate comments about real life people. it gives me an incredible amount of secondhand embarassment which is a shame because the VAs are so nice and i like interacting with them like a normal person.

My humble opinion is that these confession kind of blogs should only exist for, say, being ridiculously horny on anon, and not become a platform for fandom discourse and toxicity. Kcd fandom is toxic enough as it is, all to way to the point of ppl leaving or thinking about leaving

Making Erik a very young child when he meets Istvan is as unrealistic as making him an adult. How would he survive in a bandit camp if he was too young to take care of himself? Even ~14-16 years old is still a child, and people who choose around that age are not necessarily doing so because they don't want to deal with heavy topics. It's still grooming, unhealthily, and completely compatible with canon. And for anyone who thinks that headcanons less dark than theirs are an attempt to make isterik "wholesome", remember that there will always be people with even darker headcanons than yours. Does that mean you're avoiding something questionable?

kcd has such a ridiculous amount of potential for original stories for all the characters and i really do mean all because of the way everything is connected either politically, by blood, military, thieving, religion etc that it baffles me when someone settles for hansry religious guilt with running away for the 78th time in a row!!

My two cents on Erik "redemption." Yes, he mirrors Henry, and that's mostly because Henry can become a hateful fucker too. Erik buys into Istvan's philosophy that the world is just dogs fighting to be the strongest and fuck the bitches. The one person he cared about was Istvan, and yes, that means he was capable of love, but this mentality can never allow him to develop. He will never regret killing the people he has for utilitarian reasons because that would be like regretting Istvan. This romance destroyed him perhaps more completely than the trauma of being a war orphan, and in a way that is in many ways divorced from the concept of abuse- I think that relationship was sincere and full of love and extremely undeniably and irreversibly toxic, because it fed on toxic ideals.

Erik isn't even in the struggle for morality. It is not a comsideration for him. He will never be redeemed. He is not looking for it.
