I’m so happy I finished this book. I heard sooooo many things about it but what stood out the most were the “R. Kelly vibes” that everybody said they got. I started reading this novel knowing I would get this R. Kelly vibe from it but I didn’t. In actuality, I could barely compare it to R. Kelly without thinking of every pedophile in the world doing the same exact thing to young girls. Korey Fields is a famous singer but I can easily see him as the youth pastor, the janitor, the acting coach, etc etc. His occupation didn’t make him the monster. I love the book and I love the conversations that it will produce. It may be hard for some to read because of the hushed taboo subject that it’s centered around but it’s a conversation that needs to happen. That conversation shouldn’t be centered around R. Kelly because this type of monster is everywhere and a lot of times in everything waiting for their next victim. I believe the author did an amazing job portraying the thoughts of a teen believing that they’ve fallen in love when in reality they’ve fallen for the okey doke. At the same time Enchanted for me was Tariq(from Power) before Ghost died. So headstrong, stubborn, and only able to hear her own voice. Shea gave her the real and she didn’t hold back. My heart ached for Shea because she was collateral damage. Gab as well but they were the true sheros. They were able to see the trouble from the beginning. I’m giving this book 4 stars only because I don’t feel like Enchanted actually learned anything. She went through so much and in the end she was still lying to herself and everybody around her.
