Since it's the last day of the year... I guess I'll apply for graduation, post my grades for the semester, and praise myself for passing the PRAXIS 2! This year has been great for my career and I'm happy to have had the opportunity to be involved in ZTA, KEA, KDPi, being accepted to teach internationally in Belize, and doing the JCPS/Stage One/Louisville/Grow Up Great Fellows internship. Thanks to the sweet @baileycrush I have decided to talk about one of the stereotypes I receive daily. First off, check out her blog at baileycrush.com to read about how she's breaking her stereotypes.(you go girl!) "Education majors do nothing. That's so easy. You get paid to babysit? Must be hard having so much free time on your hands." But here's the reality. We put over 500 plus hours of our free time without pay into the schools learning We are preparing the future We give inclusion and HOPE to ALL kids We work hard to break the stereotypes We give hope to a child that's been left behind, we help them see the light We help that child who has an IEP get into college We help that child who has come from a different culture realize how powerful their voice is We help different races to prove stereotypes WRONG We help kids understand that they're normal, if they think they are gay We provide love to children who don't get it at home We provide a home in our classroom for those who don't have that stability We teach these children how to be career ready We engage students to understand how powerful learning is We help them to develop socially, mentally, emotionally, and physically Our job can be so stressful, but so rewarding. Each day in a classroom we remember every child and how to help them grow. I'm changing the future to be better by better preparing students when they exit my class. I CHALLENGE YOU ALL TO PROVE YOUR STEREOTYPE WRONG. Take a picture and show the world.
