A work of art
By Keme Telo
‘A work of art
Is made to fall apart
It is liquid in my cup,’ says He
‘A work of art is malleable,
It allows whomever to beat it down
And build it back up,’ He continues
A work of art is know for broken shoulder blades
Bruises that never fade
Addictions to pain medications
And walking canes
A work of art is familiar with the bite of belts
The sting that comes when a hand connects with skin
And the feeling of nothing
‘A work of art
Keeps her mouth shut,’ says He
‘A work of art
Learns from third degree burns,’ he continues
I am a work of art
Whomever is He
He cuts
I bleed
He says I’m weak
He is only helping me
Or is He
I mean,
Why else would He slam my head against kitchen counters?
Bust my lip with every encounter
I often ponder
I often wonder
If perfection will come before I breath no longer
