Has no one else noticed that in the Wizard-y propaganda that is the Wizard of Oz, Elphaba causes pollution while spelling out ‘Surrender Dorothy’

In Wicked, which tells Elphaba’s side, it seems she’s cleaning the pollution in the air (probably caused by Yellow Brick Road construction and deforestation) with her message ‘Our Wizard Lies’.

Professor Gelphie, how r the chances of a Gelphie kiss (cheek, hand, forehead, idk) looking to you? Or even a confession??

As your professor of Gelphie Studies, I will do like Glinda and counter with a different question: in your quest to seek "canon confirmation", have you considered what you might lose instead?

Just think about it. Gelphie kisses fully on the mouth. The crowd cheers etc etc. Except, we already know we'll get a Fiyero/Elphaba ending: Glinda sings No One Mourns the Wicked. Elphaba flees Kiamo Ko. Fiyero got his "I have changed" moment in the trailer.

Personally, I'd hate getting a gelphie kiss with no follow-up whatsoever. Either go all in and fully rewrite the story so we get a gelphie ending, or give me this ridiculously over the top subtext while we all pretend the straight ship ending makes sense.

That said, a cheek, hand, or forehead kiss would still be in the realm of possiblity. I'm not ruling it out fully (though imo the odds are low), and 100% expect it to be in this same homoerotic subtext vain.

A confession? Let's keep that for our Alternate Universe – Canon Divergence tag on AO3. Because I could not handle either one of them confessing their feelings for the other (or both of them!!) and Glinda still ends up thinking Elphie is dead, while Elphaba is alive and flees Oz. Leaving Glinda behind.

one of my favourite things of one of my long distance friendships is how I gave her a houseplant as a gift when she moved. I didn't know she never had houseplants because she always used to kill them on accident. but because it was a gift, she learned how to take really good care of it and now she loves it. I got the same kind of houseplant a few weeks later. now even when we haven't talked in a while, every now and then either of us will send a picture of a new leaf, a new pot, a new climbing aid. Once we've caught each other up on the well-being of our plants, we move on to catch each other up on our own well-being. It's so cute

Thinking again about Thropple and specifically Glinda’s relationship with Fiyeraba and just…🥺

Glinda spends [redacted] years listening to Fiyero go on and on about Elphaba, but she always thought that was just his discomfort with serving the Wizard and his need to reunite the three of them. She never thought there was actually anything between her two friends because…well….Elphaba is hers, right? And Fiyero’s is hers too? That’s how the story goes.

But then suddenly, DURING THEIR ENGAGEMENT BALL, he’s running away and it’s pretty clear this was all a whole lot more than some general admiration for Elphaba’s mission. And it turns out - from her POV - that they both want to be together without her. There was this whole thing she wasn’t aware that was happening right in front of her.

Both of them betrayed her and left her alone: the only people she’s ever loved and trusted.

And then a wild, grieving Elphaba comes out swinging with accusations and strange bragging confidence about the fact that Glinda was left alone, and they fight. It all blows up again and now her ex-fiancé has been captured trying to save them, and he’s on his knees saying he’s so sorry for what he knows he did to her.

And at that moment she loves and trust them both so much that she declares her support for the very relationship that broke her….but it DOESN’T WORK. He is still tortured to death in front of her, keeping silent to save both of their lives. Her other love loses her entire mind in grief over it, in a way that clearly disturbs Glinda deeply.

So Glinda is standing there mourning Fiyero while still desperately fighting to save Elphaba - the one person she has left. And at the same time, she’s STILL processing all the emotions from only a few days before of her best friends/lovers apparently having an entire required relationship for [redacted] years that she was entirely unaware of.

And yet, Glinda stands there and so very gently asks Elphaba if he’s dead. She still stands there and - in that moment with her world crashing down around her - cares more about Elphaba’s broken, grieving heart than her own.

The way that the Wizard probably offered Elphaba everything from power to riches but it’s the chance to be with Glinda that breaks her iron resolve she’s so obvious and down bad 😭

Additionally: the wizard and I is parallel to somewhere over the rainbow in the wizard of oz in that elphie and dorothy both dream of a worry free future. The first movie adds the bluebirds Dorothy sings of, even, to nod to this parallel. Elphie goes through a lot of those same wanting feelings in wonderful once more, and this time, that idea of a land without worries, somewhere over the rainbow, is so close. Right here in the room, the rainbow being the walls.

Jon M. Chu and Academy Award winner Nathan FUCKING Crowley are INSANE for this. I don't know which one of you came up with this, but you guys are absolutely insane.

The Wizard and I is obviously a song about Elphaba wanting to be with the Wizard and change the world with him. In the movie, they use this spinning colorful glass thing, and the light shining through it, as Elphaba dreams about not being green anymore. Interestingly enough, if you light Elphaba's green skin with pink light, it results in a color very close to Cynthia Erivo's natural skin color, and Jon confirmed that this is 100% intentional.

And pink obviously means Glinda.

Back in What is This Feeling, Elphaba is lit with pink but only from one side, and it has the same effect.

In Wonderful on stage, the Wizard tempts Elphaba with rehabilitating her image and getting exactly what she dreamed about. But in the movie, unlike on stage, it seems like he has Glinda as a part of this temptation as well. We don't know yet how the scene will play out exactly, but what we can see with our own eyes is that the exact same colors show up, spinning around, and I think the scene with Elphaba and Glinda bathed in pink is part of the same sequence as well (you can see parts of the Wizard's throne room wall on the sides in the background) and just... my brain explodes from this.

Obviously Wonderful already had the music cue from The Wizard and I in it, but to give us this strong of a visual for it. I am just constantly amazed by these filmmakers. 😭
