Gorgeous by Taylor Swift

Gorgeous is of the songs on Taylor Swift’s new album Reputation. It describe the feeling she gets when she is around attractive people and how it is difficult to look at them because they are so gorgeous. MS said the song was“relateable”. It is very different from her older music and there is no in between with the songs on Reputation, you either like them or you don’t. It still sounds like a song about a relationship, but it has a more forced maturity sound to it.

Money by Poppy
Poppy is a YouTuber who critizes society in each of her videos. Every now and then she comes out with a song that has a similar purpose. When MS listened to the song she said, “it has a catchy song and it brings up socal topics.” All throughout the song she related to the lyrics. “it has a really cool beat to it and I love this song.” This song is really upbeat to cover up the facts “that money basically ruins our lives.” Her videos involved a lot of decoding just because she covers up the true messages of her videos and her songs to allow other people to decode them. In addition to watching the music video for this song I suggest you go check out her other videos because in some way they are all related!

Sorry Not Sorry by Demi Lovato

Sorry Not Sorry is an unapologetic party song. It has a beat that is consistent and works with the lyrics of the song. It is an uplifting song and is an instant mood booster. EW said, “I like it because it sounds very pop-ph but it has a different spin on it. She has an incredible voice.” The people who reviews this really enjoyed it because “it sounded victorious”, but also was relateable for some being that you may not be feeling apolegetic for something you have done. Or you might have been showing your ex what they are missing. Whether it was relateable to the individual listening or to someone they know, it was relateable- adding to the charm of this song. Demi Lovato’s powerful voice really kicks in the bridge of the song. I highly recommend you listen to this song if you are feeling tired.

New Rules by Dua Lipa

New Rules is an incredibly upbeat song that can get stuck in your head for hours. As KJ was bobbing her head she said, “its really catchy and relatable and is a true bop, like you can actually dance to it.” It has a nice bridge, chorus, and verses. The lyrics are clear and for some relateable. “The whole avoid calling your ex- relateable for some,” said KJ. It has a steady beat throughout the song and everyone who reviewed the song loved it.
The lyrics had a message they could relate to or someone they knew could. AG said, “this is the type of music I would listen to then doing my homework.” Motivating and uplifting, but not to the point of complete distraction however it does make AG “want to dance.”

Now or Never by Halsey

The second Halsey song EW reviewed was Now or Never. She said the verses are “ too fast again.” Whereas the chorus “has a good beat” She referred to it as “too generic.” The song is about a person asking for love from someone Now or Never. Once again is fast paced, but slowed than the oher song. WHen comparing these songs to the songs on the rest of the album, they have a similar sound. However there is nothing incredibly special about the song to make it my favorite. It sounds like i was created for the sole purpose of being put on a radio station.

Walls Could Talk by Halsey

Walls Could Talk is the story of a relationship that is no longer a thing. When listening to the song EW said, “its way too choppy for my taste.” It is really short, but tells the story of a relationship that has recently ended and how the person is doing now. The beat was moving and changing quickly which emphasized the speed of the breakup in the relationship and how the narrator might be feeling. It gave off a feel of confusion as well as nervousness because it kept moving really quickly. The song is not very long, adding to the message of the breakup. Even though the music made EW and I slightly uncomfortable with the pace, it successfully portrayed the message.

Why Try by Ariana Grande

Why Try is a song about a relationship that is both good and bad. When listenign to the the song for the first time she sadi, it sounds very mature. Kind of a ballad trying to be a pop song,“ then continued to critize the lyrics. The beat of the song is very consistent and has an occasion pause to allow Ariaan to sing her famous whistle/high notes. THis is one of her more serious songs. It doesnt hsver tha 🙌/ dance vibe that other songs like Break Free or Problem have. It does however allow her beautiful and almost angelic notes to be carried out through each and every lyric of the song.
Her voice alone is so raw and hearing her sing acapella hers songs is amazing because you can tell the high notes are not autotuned in rather her actual voice. The song itself alternated beteen low and high notes which perfectly blended with the lyrics of the song. During the song, it means the relationship being “like devils. like angels”. Getting oth those high notes that Ariana is famous for and the low notes really compliment the song. EW shared, “she has a really good voice…oh thats cliche…I 😍 it when she belts its really powerul.” Both EW and SG used the song to critize pop 🎶 in general. I will be doing an entire post on this in the future so look out for that!

Wolves by Selena Gomez

Wolves has a steady beat that flows throughout the song. It shares the story of overcoming challenges with the goal to reach the point where the “you” referred to in the song is. It is so simple that it is catchy and easy to get stuck in your head for hours. When listening to the song for the first time CH said, “she sounds so raw and emotional.”
This song gives of a vibe that encourages listeners to overcome challenges to get to their goal. For Selena, her goal was getting to “you”. It has a beautiful message within it and with the buildups throughout the song are artfully placed.

Woman by Kesha
Kesha’s latest album, Rainbow, which includes Praying is amazing. One of my favorite songs on the album is Woman. It has a Kesha vibe to it reminding listeners to her other hits like “Tik Tok” and “Die Young”. What sets this song apart from those two is the sense of female empowerment it brings with it. When listening to the song for the first time KJ said, “it has a fun beat...its one of those ’I dont care what you think’ songs.” It has a lively and fast pace which nicely adds to the message of the song. This song is definitely a mood booster. I can see myself listening to this to get myself ready for something I am nervous for. KJ followed up by saying, “this is a song that i would play when I’m doing my homework [but I would] need to take a break to sing along.”
Compared to Praying it is less serious, but still empowering in a different way. This song encourages women to be fearless and have people treat them with respect. This song is explicit, but the way Kesha uses the profanity to encourage women to show their self-pride really puts the message out there.
