Gamedev is doing well I see

Everytime I learn about new layoffs in the gamedev the PTSD from my own layoff comes back. One of the advices for concept art portfolio is to make it similar to the studio you want to work with. And what studio I want to work with? All AAA sucks rn, smaller companies use AI, etc

Creative jobs are closely tied to emotional state and money themselves aren't enough, to create something meaningful we have to believe it's possible to deliver the final product, and how can one keep believing that when shit like this happens all the time?..

How does one find energy to keep going in the industry that strips you of everything, no matter what you create you can be laid off any moment and also they can decide not to pay you at all - I'm suing one of my former employers right now which is draining and expensive af

That's why supporting artists' small businesses is more important now than ever. I'm afraid to think where I would be if not for my Patreon supporters and people who buy prints, I'm forever grateful ♥️

My favorite Soviet era joke: Three Russian men were sent by their company to attend a convention in Moscow. All 3 shared a hotel room. Two of them cracked open a bottle of vodka, but the third just wanted to sleep. The two drinkers got louder and louder as the bottle emptied, telling each other political jokes. The third was kept awake, and got angry.

He went outside for a smoke. On his way back to his room, he stopped at the desk and said 'Please send a pot of tea up to room 23.'

The two drunks were still being loud. The third man went in, looked at them, then leaned over to the light socket 'Comrade Major, please send some tea to my room.'

The other men thought this was hilarious...until there was a knock on the door, and a waiter with a pot of tea. They became completely silent, and the third man fell asleep.

When he woke up in the morning, he was alone. He went to the front desk, and asked where his roommates were.

'Well, the KGB came this morning and took them away.'

The man was horrified 'why did they spare me?!?'

"The comrade major thought the tea joke was very funny."

"Ain't you the least bit bored? The least bit sad all your stories are just tales for the bards, now?"

"Bored?" Khadorek asks, giving the visitor, presumably one here to make a purchase a quizzical look. He hadn't thought about it much. Life had gotten quite a bit less exciting lately, come to think of it, but between the business and his family, bored and sad were the furthest feelings from his mind. "Honestly, no, no I don't. I think I've had my fill of excitement. If you know anything about me, and you seem to, you probably can at least understand why." He laughs slightly.
