About the design: 

“If I Were With You” is a song about navigating the grief, heartache, longing, and gratitude we experience as humans who value great love and endure great loss. Inspired by a track & field runner’s starting block, this artwork represents the beginning of the long road of living without someone. Loss is a marathon, not a sprint, and at some point, we all find ourselves on that starting block.

So last week, I got the chance to hang out with my buddy @tldtoday, he is a musician/producer and also works with his team to make some amazing videos! I had the chance to do an unboxing for one of his channels (please go check it out) and it was so fun! We spent time listening to his #DolbyAtmos setup. Let me just tell you, that was one of the most inspiring listening sessions I have been apart of in a long time. The @genelec_oy speakers used in the demos gave a laser beam level of accuracy when listening for object position changes in the mix. I’ll be working hard to get a setup like this, I truly want a future where audio is this immersive. On Monday the power went out and I felt pretty lost. I wanted to start a few projects but because of the winter storm, I couldn’t fire up any of my usual studio gear. So many ideas running through my head, I turned to my cello a few times during the passing days, and it felt amazing just shedding ideas, acoustically. I also picked up my camera to brave the cold for all of 20 minutes. I could only get a few clips before I couldn’t feel my toes, but I wanted to document this crazy time...even if just in a few frames around my yard. Using the camera is like writing in a diary, and I’m definitely an auditory/visual person. Today the water and power came on, and it was time to release my creative energy. I wrote this music last night, while looking at the footage and recalling the feelings I had during the height of this crisis. Sitting in darkness, stillness, and an inescapable chill. So many people affected, lives lost, homes that need repair. I feel lucky and grateful for all the kind words people have shared, and inspired by how people have come together to help one another. Collecting rain and snow to boil really puts things in perspective. Please enjoy the music and visuals. Continue to love and help one another. Hello friends, I hope you are having a wonderful day. A few weeks ago, I was thinking about how I wanted to celebrate my birthday. One of my favorite things to do is share music, so I set out to finish a collection of songs that encompasses styles I love and also speaks to who I am. I do music because I have always dreamt of this lifestyle. Creating and sharing music is always like swimming in uncharted waters. Not knowing how the performance/creation will turn out and be received can be a vulnerable moment. Ever since I was a kid I loved that feeling. My mother sent me this photo out of the blue, and now it’s the cover of this EP. This was right before an orchestra performance in high school. I was so pumped to play and be around others who truly enjoyed music. When my friend and artist Luca Erozer added the title to the photo, he wrote it on the back of my teacher. That got me thinking about all the people in my life who have helped me and continue to support me. It really is too many to name. On Dreams represents how I live my life, and I hope you enjoy this short EP. I’m going to celebrate the best I can out of this Birthday. Later this summer, please watch “Stockton On My Mind” on HBO. Writing the music for this film was truly inspiring. See, @michaeldtubbs is a leader who represents the change I want to see in this country. What he is doing for his town on a local level is really helping people. As Stockton’s youngest and first African-American mayor, he has taken action to lift up his community in ways that can really translate to other cities across America. I have always loved that my music was aligned with a team of people that really want to actualize a better, more just world. “Pops”! That’s what we called him growing up. He could really tell a story, some were probably not entirely true, but they were amazing to listen to! He would let me drink coffee with him in the mornings, not great for my already high energy, but it made me feel grown cuz that’s what older people did. He played spades with us while leading conversations that helped shape our understanding of the world. Life wasn’t easy back then, but he helped us find fun in the little things. I can still hear his voice, pure and hysterically funny. I didn’t get to see him at the end of his life. The last time I saw him was in Philly at my dad's house. We talked like old times and shared a meal together, a memory I will never forget. If you know me, then it’s almost like you met my grandfather, my mom has brought that to my attention more than once. If I were with you now, I would love to just talk on the porch, drink a cup of coffee, and share thoughts about the world. If I were with you, we would be having a jam session with the whole family. If I were with you, I would ask for advice and you would probably say I knew the right thing to do. I’ll see you again Pops, and we will eat! Man, he could cook. He was on my mind when I wrote my newest single “If I Were With You”. Most people have a story about a family member that was just awesome, someone you wish you could bring back. Pops, I hope you can feel this song in the heavens! I hope you all feel this song and are reminded of someone you love.
