Kaz kept his feet light and his body pressed against the cave-walls and he crept to the Pits. He heard chains rattling against the steel bars and heavy footsteps echo throughout the area. It was nothing he hadn’t experienced before, though that didn’t mean he didn’t have to be careful. He assumed no one appreciated someone lurking around a prison when they weren’t supposed to be there, both on Earth and here in Perim.
He continued to move, and even had to catch and keep himself from making a sound when ungracefully skidding his foot over a loose rock. He was caught even more off guard and froze when he heard a voice very nearby shouting orders. One voice was Grook’s, he had spent enough time around him to recognize it, but the other he didn’t know. Kaz carefully peaked around a corner spying the other, ordering a line of prisoners around, that he didn’t know.
He took a deep breathe and began to think up a plan. He’d wait until Grook was gone and this creature, Stinkor, came his way. Hopefully, Kaz could catch him alone. He didn’t look too intimidating (though after the Colosseum incident, he knew never to judge an Underworlder on their size again) so maybe he would be easily approachable. Cool and casual, he told him. Aaannd he could always port out if things didn’t go too well.
Stinkor was leading some new prisoners to their cells. They were all grumbling because they were being led away by the tiniest conqueror in all the Underworld. Stinkor was just about the same size as H’earring, but he wasn’t too concerned with it. At least, not as much as Hammerdoom Chantcaller was.
“Keep it movin’!” he shouted at them as they went along. Shortly, all were locked in their cells. Then Grook walked up. “All prisoners accounted for and safely locked away,” he said with a smile.

@stinkor-the-underworlder
Kaz was mumbling to himself as he walked back to the Port Court. His back was hunched over and he had his hands in his pockets.
It just didn’t make any sense... He could have won that match if it weren’t for his opponent - SamShady - using that mugic. The whole match was as exciting as ever; Underworlders everywhere and everything ablaze, until the last round. It was H’earring vesus a creature called Stinkor, an Underworld Conqueror that Kaz had never had the pleasure (if that’s what you’d call it) of meeting in Perim.
Kaz new H’earring was far from a heavy hitter, but that still didn’t explain why his attacks did next to nothing to his opponent’s creature, or why Stinkor did almost no damage to him. The only really damage done was due to interaction with the Location, and that one final Canon of Casualty.
Being H’earring that match just felt so, well, weird, to Kaz, and he had to figure out what was going on. He pulled out his Scanner and selected a Location scan he had of Underworld City, transporting himself there. From what he had heard, Stinkor worked in the Pits, so that’s just where he would head.

“Trust me, if I understood it, I’d tell you, and then I’d get H’earring some help,” said Kaz, a hint of amusement in his voice. “At least he doesn’t beg for whatever that gunk in the Everrain is that he likes, - blech.” He scrunched up his nose, remembering the challenge of transporting that stuff all too well.
Tumblr media
He scrolled through his location deck as he walked behind Tom as they went and get what they’d need. He found the right place, a specific swampy area of the Forest of Life near Dractyl’s nest that he had scanned for ease of access. He then held his scanner to the side as he filled a knapsack with only the essentials, plus a few snacks.
“Ready when you are.”

“I was here first,” answered Kaz skeptically, his words sounding more like a question than a statement. “I should be asking you that.”

“Uh,” Kaz thought back to when he had first met Chaor, trying to remember how long it had been. He had started playing Chaotic years ago, when the card game first came out, but hadn’t actually met Chaor until a few months after he received his transport code. And what a day that was. “Like a year,” a paused, realizing that only a year seemed unimpressive, “and a half.”
Geez, he could have sworn it was longer than that.
“Yeah, I think I’ll pass,” he mused, slight amusement in his voice, until he let out an audible gulp at the creature’s next statement. He tread cautiously, wishing he knew what the Underworlder did.
Nivenna gave a quiet huff, not daring to voice what she was thinking. “How long have you two known each other? It’s not like Chaor to enjoy the presence of small, squishy things.” She continued walking, as well, and sighed, "I’m not even going to repeat some of the names he’s given to Krekk in the past. By the way, when we get to the door, you may want to let me go first…and be ready to jump.“ Nivenna smirked, eyes narrowing, clearly knowing something Kaz probably didn’t.

Tom blinked as he reasserted himself and his location. “I’m never going to get used to that.” He sighed deeply, elbowing Kaz a little before he looked down at his scanner. “Nope, match won’t be for a few hours. You?”
He flicked through his Locations as he sat down at an empty table, since he didn’t spot the others. “Perim, but not sure where.” He said aloud, thinking. “You have any ideas in mind?”
Tumblr media
Kaz followed Tom’s stride and took a seat. He ushered over one of the hovering robots and asked for a cola absentmindedly, fingers swiping through his location deck to possibly spark an idea.
“We could go check out the Underworld and see if H’earring’s got any new leads,” he offered, waving his scanner gently, showing the location. He knew it was an unoriginal suggestion on his part but didn’t really know what else he had to offer. “Of course, then we’d have to stop by Dractyl’s nest...”

Do you still use Van Bloot?
Tumblr media
Not usually if I can help it. I don’t feel like I used him much to begin with before all of the M’arrillian invasion stuff went down. The thing is, in Chaotic you sometimes have to separate the actual creature from their stats if you want to win the dromes.
Unfortunately it seems like Klay some people are using him more after everything that happened.

“I’m not lying,” said Kaz, raising his hands up in defense, “you can ask him yourself. And it’s not like I asked him to call me that; he just...does.” He adjusted his glass as they slid down the bridge of his nose. He then carried on, feeling a bit more comfortable talking about creatures he knew personally than being pretty much threatened by a creature he’d just met. “Hey, at least ‘Kazzy’ is a positive name. As long as he’s not naming me after someone like, I don’t know, say, Krekk, I don’t really care.”
Nivenna looked back over her shoulder, sneering as Kaz hurried up a bit, seemingly energized at the thought of their destination. However, his response to her question caused her expression to fade into one of disconcerted bafflement and curiosity. “Wait, he just...calls you that? That...is...” She bit her lower lip, further looking Kaz over. “...unusual.” She stopped on the stairs for a moment, staring at Kaz disbelievingly. “I...don’t think I understand. Your name’s not Kazzy, but it’s all I’ve ever heard him call you. Either you’re lying, or...or...” Nivenna made a circular motion in the air with one hand, as though trying to summon the right words. “...The only other Creature he’s given a nickname to actually relating to their name is my mom - ‘Taki.’ Otherwise, it’s things like Runt, or Grey Matter.” She crossed her arms over her chest, clearly expecting some sort of answer to something that wasn’t even posed as a question.

“Getting a bit deep there, are we, Tom?” said Kaz, letting out a timid laugh. He didn’t really know what to say in return instead, but he appreciated everything Tom said and felt the same, nonetheless.
Tumblr media
That turned Kaz’s expression into a wide grin. Only a second after Tom did, he took out his scanner and pressed the button. The Port Court materialized before his eyes. He looked beside him, wondering if his friend had anything specific in store.

Kaz was baring his teeth in an awkward grimace. His face was sure to get stuck that way if he continued for much longer, or at least that’s what his mother would have told him. Gently he transformed his expression into a smile of relief when she assured him no danger. He rested his scanner at his side, mostly at ease, and casually and carefully followed behind Nivenna.
The Sinister Statuette he repeated silently to himself. It certainly sounded menacing, and he hoped it was actually as good as it sounded. He already couldn’t wait to try it out in the Battle Dromes. His returned excitement made him pick up his pace when climbing the stone steps before him. As he did though, he wasn’t prepared for her question.
“It’s not my real name...” he trailed off. “My name’s Kaz. Chaor just started calling me that a while ago.” He said the second half with pride, thinking how special he was to be close enough to Chaor to have received a nickname, but then his confidence wavered; what if it was just a lame pet name? He wasn’t too sure how or why Chaor came up with something so ‘cute’ as Nivenna had pointed out. No one, even his family called him anything but ‘Kaz’ if not by his full name. Well, Peyton had ‘Kazzers,’ but that was Peyton, and Peyton was no powerful leader of Underworlders.
Nivenna nearly snerked at Kaz’s disappointed reaction, but switched back to her intimidation. She hummed, leaning slightly on Kaz, her hand still on his shoulder. She began examining the sharp metal claws on the glove of her free hand, moving it back and forth so they ominously caught what light there was in the hall. “You know, I could just zap you into a pile of ash with my Mugic; I don’t exactly like being lied to...” She flicked her hand and pushed off of Kaz, giving him a cool smile. “Buuuuut I won’t.” Nivenna motioned for Kaz to follow her as she began waltzing down the corridor, taking a turn to go up a set of stairs, evidently knowing exactly where she was going.
“I don’t know how you heard about that Battlegear, but it’s probably the Sinister Statuette. Mother found the creepy little thing while excavating one of the larger rooms...There may have been something else she found, but I don’t know for sure or not. If I’m not mistaken, it’s still in a box waiting to be taken up to the palace, along with a few other artifacts.” She looked over her shoulder to Kaz and added, “They’re useless, though. Nothing special, they just might help us identify who built this place. By the way, what sort of name is ‘Kazzy’? It sounds so...cute.” Nivenna’s stuck out her tongue and frowned as though disgusted.

“Yeah,” sighed Kaz, “but your friendship is a good enough present for me.” It sounded more like a question or suggestion than an actual statement. He wore a forced grin, knowing exactly how cheesy that sounded.

He nodded in understand as she explained. He hadn’t really thought about creatures, especially Underworlders, having a interest in parenting before. It was probably a little harsher than average human parenting, but who was he to judge? When she answered about Chaor, his shoulders drooped, letting out a sarcastic “That’s... great...” You only admire a guy (be that guy a huge, brimstone smelling demon-man or not) for a few years and he’s telling people you’re like a lap dog.
“Uh, you see,” he stuttered, trying to come up with something. He fidgeted with his glasses out of habit and then offered, “The door was locked,” chuckling nervously. She had to have known he wasn’t telling the truth that time. He was a terrible liar and he knew it. He sighed and quickly answered, “Okay I heard there was some new battlegear here and I wanted to get a look for myself but I’m not sure if I’m supposed to know about it or not so that’s why I was sneaking it,” with his words all running into each other.
Addressing his last questions first, Nivenna shrugged. “Takinom - I know I’m adopted, but she’s still my mother, all the same. You know, raised me with care and devotion, all that emotional junk. As for Chaor...” She paused, rolling her shoulders, intentionally making him wait, hoping that his anxiety would build. “...Mm, he makes you sound like a pet! An annoying one, in my opinion, but loyal.” Biting back a giggle, she added, “Almost like Cerbie~!”
Getting to his explanation of why he was there, Nivenna eyed him suspiciously, though a smirk remained perched on her lips. “Really...? See now, Kazzy, I doubt that.” She stepped a bit closer, looking down to him with a mischievous glint in her eyes. “I think that if you had wanted a...’scan’ of the palace, you would have taken a more direct route. It’s easier, after all, than attempting to traverse a place you know nothing about...So,” She rested a hand on his shoulder, gripping it lightly, teeth flashing in a menacing smile. “Perhaps you should start telling me the truth about why you’re wandering these old halls...”

"Touché," remarked Kaz. Taking a moment to get a full look at her, the boy finally realized why she was familiar. This creature was Nivenna: Underworld twin sister to the Overworlder Aivenna. He had never seen her before in person, and the most he'd ever heard about her was from Klay, who was not the most reliable of sources. He caught himself starring and internally shook himself out of it. He was being questioned, and needed to think of answer.
"Well ya see," he began, "I was just hoping to get a scan of the palace to use in my deck," he taped on the screen of his scanner, "and thought no one was home, so I was just going to slip and slip out, no harm, no fowl." It wasn't a total lie. He just left out the bit about the new battlegear that may or may have supposed to have been a secret.
Kaz winced and let out a, “Hey!” when she pulled out a hair from his head. He rubbed the place it came from even though it didn’t actually hurt that much. “It’s not that common, but some people do.” He wasn’t sure if he was supposed to only count redheads or add blonde in as well, but the technicalities weren’t a thing he found important to delve into. “What else did, uh, Chaor say about me? And also, ‘mother’?”
Nivenna calmed and lifted a brow at the human. “What, Attacat got your tongue?” she mocked, sassily putting her hands on her hips. “So, Kazzy, what are you doing down here? Searching for my mother? Well, she’s not here, lucky you. She hates for anyone to enter uninvited.” Nivenna began slowly circling Kaz, inspecting him. “Hm...I’ve never seen a human up-close before. Are many of you so bright-haired?” She asked the question as she stopped beside him, plucking a strand of the fiery-orange on his head to examine it. “Chaor talked like it would be something to identify you by, so I assume not. Shame, really - it’s pretty.” With that, Nivenna evaporated the strand, looking to him expectantly.

“Yeah, okay, keep on talking there Drakness,” taunted Kaz, waving the voice off once again. It had been a while since a creature had given him this much time a day, positive or negative. It was probably a small creature, the likes of Ulmar, all bark and no bite.
Or maybe not...
He took it back, seeing the humanoid that emerged. She was tall, and her eyes glowed brightly. Upon them fading out, she let out a harsh laugh right beside him. Kaz flinched and gave a wince. She wasn’t aiming to hurt him at least, that much he was sure of. He figured she was just taking joy in his discomfort. He forced out a airy ‘hah,’ trying (but not too hard) to appear fine with her pranks. It wasn’t that funny, was it?
Nivenna at first pouted when Kaz began to walk away. He wasn’t being very fun...until he turned around and got angry. A grin twisted its way onto her face as he shouted at her. She replied, slowly, letting malice seep from her voice, “Do you not realize? You have been staring at me this entire time! I am shadow, I am darkness...but I may take form, if you so want me to. Be warned, though...I am the last thing you will see, even after your eyes close.” Nivenna quietly stepped out from behind the rock, eyes glowing with Mugical energy, dark lances of it crackling in the air around her, illuminating only her savagely-grinning face and sharp-clawed gloves covering her hands. She stopped, however, just shy of barreling into Kaz, the lightning-like Mugic and glow of her eyes fading as she began laughing, the sound still cruel despite her mirth. “You should have seen yourself~!” she said gleefully, putting a hand on her chest to steady herself and face-palming with her other. “The way you flailed...Ohhh, Mom and Chaor weren’t lying!”
