trump makes a blatantly lying comment about how haitian immigrants are eating “pets” and the white left is frothing at the mouth to turn it into a “hahaha funny meme”, without thinking of the horrific implications that a statement stating black people are coming to eat [inferred: white] people’s pets went unchallenged and is now actively being spread as a “joke”.
#tbf. it did not go unchallenged. it was immediately factchecked live on air by the moderators#but yeah. ive been thinking about this a lot.#bc yes. the incongruity of the lie & the intonation with which he says it and the live harris reaction splitscreen and the doubling down#im not gonna act like i dont see why people find it funny#like we've been through 'the late great hannibal lecter' right we know trump is often a funny bitch#but like. the level of normalisation. of heinous racism. that has to happen for the dominant response from the (white) left to be laughter#and it kind of means that now the two primary responses to something as obscenely racist as 'haitian immigrants will eat your pet dog'#are right wingers continuing to insist its true#and memes#and not really a very large constituency of people calling it what it is. which is obscene racism
