over the past decade, i’ve done everything in my power to warn people about this current moment; from building and bringing 44 to Smith Commons to the art and building of Smith Public Trust⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ @gaiastreetart’s rooster “Dusk of H Street” was to wake people up⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ @PublicTrustDC was an allegory of America’s violent imperialism, built on black, brown, red and yellow skin⁣⁣ ⁣ but we were Black, alone, unseen and unheard⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ the books, our history, the safe spaces for artists, musicians and LGBTQ+,  fighting gentrification, fighting #PoliceBrutality, supporting local, creating jobs, #BlackLivesMatter⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ in reply, cats told me we needed more IPAs on tap, 1 star review because they couldn't find parking etc... they never had a clue what we were really doing or what was hidden in plain sight⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ "The concept of the public trust relates back to the origins of democratic government and its seminal idea that within the public lies the true power and future of a society; therefore, whatever trust the public places in its officials must be respected.”⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ i mean, we really asked the tough questions; did the work that folks like @chefjoseandres, @andpizza and @erikbruneryang etc were and are still doing⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ but we were Black, alone, unseen and unheard⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ so i thought maybe if the celebs come they’ll listen⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ or maybe if we do a festival they’ll they see that #BlackLivesMatter ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ or maybe if we bring the sexy, they’ll listen to the #MeToo movement⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ or maybe if we feed kids in #Ward7 & #Ward8, then they’ll help kids⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ but we were Black, alone, unseen and unheard⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ my message here is twofold:⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 1. if people don’t use this moment to learn to work together, we will all perish⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 2. i feel unseen and unheard... maybe if i post these questions here, the people who i love will actually pay some attention⁣ ⁣ why do you think every human has now been taught to stay indoors for months at a time?⁣ ⁣ do you think maybe you’ve been conditioned to do the most mindless sh*t possible on social media, while simultaneously giving your photographic likeness and your friend’s likenesses and most personal information to teach these algorithms and facial recognition systems?⁣ ⁣ what did you think they were boarding up the stores for, food shortages? is there food in Dior or Urban Outfitters?⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ did you think they needed the National Guard on standby in all 50 states just to distribute canned goods?⁣⁣ ⠀⁣⁣ what did you think the police were getting surplus military equipment for the last decade in preparation for?⁣⁣⁣ ⠀⁣⁣ what do you think the mass shooting news and active shooter drills have been conditioning you for?⁣⁣ ⁣ why have you seen over 100 Black people killed by the cops on the news for the last decade?⁣ ⁣ could you imagine this wonderfully timed and perfectly imperfect level of utter incompetence happening under any president besides 45?⁣ ⁣⁣ do you think the cameras on every street corner are just for speeding tickets?⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ do you think the fact that you start getting IG ads for the things that you talk about is just a cute and minor intrusion?⁣⁣ ⁣ do you think it’s just a coincidence that we just so happen to have a robust home delivery system and broadband internet/mobile communications at the exact time that we need it most?⁣ ⁣⁣ do you think they put Assange, Manning and Snowden under the prison just because?⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 🤷🏾‍♂️ huh? “the company is taking the following actions:Beginning April 19, the company is temporarily furloughing approximately 51,000 Domestic hourly store employees, including nearly all part-time employees. 

The company is retaining approximately 82% of its full-time store and field employees on its payroll, including the vast majority of In-Home Advisors and Geek Squad Agents. 

Furloughed employees will retain their health benefits at no cost to them for a minimum of three months. Beginning April 19, some corporate employees are participating in voluntary reduced work weeks and resulting pay, as well as voluntary furloughs.

CEO Corie Barry will forego 50% of her base salary and the members of the Board of Directors will forego 50% of their cash retainer fees through at least September 1, 2020.

Company executives reporting directly to the CEO will take a 20% reduction in base salary through at least September 1, 2020.

Other actions include:

Lowering merchandise receipts to match demand with a focus on essential items for our customers

Extending payment terms in partnership with key merchandising vendors

Reducing promotional and marketing spend aligned to temporary operating model

Lowering capital spend to focus on mandatory maintenance or high-value strategic areas
