That was a little disappointing to hear, but to be expected. If Tetsuya and his Asmodai were in a Buddy Contract, it would only make sense they would be brought here together. He and his Asmodai were just buddies, not Buddies after all.

“Yeah, I get ya. I’m… Just tryin’ not to feel too bummed about it. It’s not what he would want, ya feel?” Even so, he couldn’t help but feel a little jealous of the Tetsuya in front of him. Why couldn’t he be with his partner too? It just wasn’t fair!

Though as soon as Asmodai’s head pokes out of Tetsuya’s pocket, he can’t help but lean in to get a closer look.

“Oh, what? Wow, you’re tiiiiiny bro! I know they sometimes make ya shrink on Earth, but this is a lil’ extreme. What if someone accidentally stepped on ya?”

          “Trust me kid, I run into that problem all the time here.” Asmodai chuckled while crawling out of Tetsuya’s pocket and sitting on his Buddy’s shoulder in order to get a better look at the other Tetsuya. “Can’t help what the scientists do, you just gotta roll with the punches, am I right?” Another laugh before his face sobered up. This poor, poor kid. He would feel the same way without his partner.

          “You’re right about one thing though. I would never want you to be bummed out, lil’ bro. You know what I also wouldn’t want? For you to worry about me.” Asmodai’s smile softened, so did his voice, his tail swinging lightly. “I’d believe in you to make the most of this place! You’re a star even without me. You’re what made the team, of course. I can’t do anything without you.”

Homie Hug indeed!

Tets was taken a little off guard by the sudden hug, but he returned the gesture enthusiastically, his cheeks turning a light pink. Banana solidarity was strong between the two of them.

“Aw, I ain’t even all that worked up about it man. He didn’t gotta shove me that hard though…” At the mention of Asmodai he pulled away from their hug, looking at his counterpart curiously.

“Uh, yeah, I do! He’s my best bud ever! But I haven’t seen him around here at all…” He frowned before shaking his head. “Wait, so like, you also got an Asmodai yeah? That’s crazy… Like I know I’m lookin’ at another me right now, but I didn’t think that applied to other Buddy Monsters, ya feel? Unless there’s one Asmodai that is just, like, collecting Tetsuyas or somethin’.”

          Tetsuya felt bad at hearing about that. Rouga was definitely not the type that liked him and his shenanigans so it made sense he would have been impartial to being around his Dungeon World self. It did still upset him a little bit. Chill out, Aragami-senpai!

          “Actually, he’s my Buddy. Not a partner like yours is to you, you see what I’m sayin’?” They took Asmodai away from him... Not is A-dawg! That was such a low blow. “That’s a funny thought, yo! I hate to say it though, mine’s right here with me. He’s just ashamed that they ganked his size.”

“Hey! I’m not ashamed. I’m getting pretty used to this!”

          “Heheh.... Uh. Well, you heard the guy!”

“Yup! Tasuku, Noboru, Gao, and uh… That really tall guy that was kinda grumpy and scary lookin’.” Tets listed them off on his fingers, frowning ever so slightly when he got to Rouga. But he quickly perked up at the question.

“Heck yeah, bro! Check it.”

He was quick to pluck one of the several bananas off of his head, offering it to Tetsuya with a smile. He was just happy no one was freaking out about it for once.

“Fulla potassium, yo~”

          “Yeeeeaaaaaah!! That’s what I’m talkin’ ‘bout yo!” Tetsuya was so overwhelmed with joy that someone who understood him came to town that he threw his arms around him and patted his back. Homie Hug, dude. Homie Hug.

          “Oh, that’s just Aragami-senpai, don’t worry too much about him. He’s just socially awkward. So, so! I wanted to ask... do you have an Asmodai?”

She’s  not even surprised that her big sister is friends with him as well. She’s happy that she’s making new friends! A smile appeared on the guard’s lips as she responded.

“As fine as I’ll ever be, young lady~! I do hope I can get back to normal size soon.”

          “Don’t worry A-dawg, I’m sure we’ll be here long enough to fix that. Just in case we end up going back and forth again. So how about you, Nerua? What’s been good?”

          “Tasuku-senpai, look out yo!” Out of practically nowhere (hint: he broke into the mansion in Sector 6 to see what was up), Tetsuya barrel rolled toward the Buddy police officer and clotheslined him, still holding onto him until they both hit the floor. He sat up straight, looked left and then to his right while mini Asmodai ducked and covered to check out behind them, and then he nodded sagely.

          “Crisis averted! Since last time something bad happened ‘n stuff, y’know? Just wanted to make sure! Glad to see you’re doing well.” Uh. Despite Tetsuya knocking the hecking wind right out of him.

Wow, it was really like looking into a mirror. A very banana filled mirror.

“I dunno, man. You’re not that bad lookin’ yourself.” Play it cool, Tets. Play it cool. “This crazy though. I kept bumping into people who knew ya, but I didn’t think I’d get to see the real deal so soon!”

          “So my peeps are still here? That’s awesome, yo! I knew I had a Dungeon World card but you look pretty different from the version I know. Must’ve come out with a new one!” Suddenly, something occurred to Tetsuya. He just had to know!

          “Hey... can you do that thing? The banana thing? Please tell me you can do it!”

Third time..? Going back and forth must have been tiring. And.. now she sees how extremely similar Tetsuya and the buddy monster version of him actually are.

❛ It’s been as… well. I’ve got my sword back - How are things with you? You know.. minus the whole having to come back here.  ❜

          “N’awww, it’s not that bad. Like I told Zal, I’m here for a reason! Right? Nice to know you got somethin’ back of yours.” Tetsuya was still working on getting Asmodai back to regular size. Oh boy... “Just hopin’ to see my other buds here!”

“Eh… I don’t think it’s that much to talk about. I don’t mind too much, really.” Well, not too much if she could keep it vague as possible anyway. Getting into specifics was still difficult for her, and she didn’t want to freak Tetsuya out with the grim details. Hopefully he wouldn’t push her for specifics.

“Let’s see… A couple months ago they suddenly threw us all into the outer districts as some sort of twisted survival test. Took all our weapons too. And everything was out to kill us. It was wonderful.”

Cue an eye roll.

“Maybe a week into that, they’re suddenly bringing us back to deal with these horrifying monsters all over the city. Which is why it’s… A mess right now. It was rough, and I really am glad you weren’t here to witness it.”

          “Oh, for reals? So that’s why some of the city’s being rebuilt. I thought it was weird ‘n stuff that I came back to practical ruins.” But why were the citizens themselves doing the reconstruction? If it was the scientists’ fault.... “To be honest with you yo, I probably wouldn’t have survived even if someone had my back. You feel me? I’m good at dancin’ and throwing down some sick rhymes, but I am not about that kind of life!”

          It might have irritated him just a little to hear Asmodai agree in his head. The wind beneath his wings.

          “Y’all are alive and stuff though, so that’s all that matters.”

“Pretty sure I keep spottin’ familiar but also unfamiliar bananas in the crowds. Guess the other me is actually around here. Nice.”

He might be a little shy about meeting Kurodake Tetsuya.

          “And who is this handsome lookin’ dude, yo? Werd, I can’t believe it, it’s me!” He’s not shy at all. Come to him.

          “Who let the dogs out, yo??” Out of prison. Tetsuya may not have been there for it all....... but Doctor Gara was a well known and dangerous criminal that was all over television when he and Asmodai were competing in L.A. He knew he was already here since the last time he appeared, the villain did a number on Tasuku’s eye but this was the first time the two were meeting face to face. It was kind of scary.

          “E-easy buddy, I was just joshin’ ya! No need to look so uptight!” Tetsuya shot a double finger gun and a wink. Uh-oh. That only made him more irritated.....!!!! Think of something!!

She hummed in response. Well, at least he managed to keep a positive outlook on it. Someone had to. “I suppose that is one way to make the situation better. Maybe that really is your purpose here, Tetsuya. Because you just got back after a lot of crazy things happened. Like a looooot of crazy and bad things. I’m glad, if they had to drag you back, you missed out on that catastrophe at least.”

          “Tch. Werd..” More bad things happened and they waited until his absence. Tetsuya felt a little irresponsible despite not being able to help his jump back and forth between Hive and Cho-Tokyo. “Guess I should get updated before I’m off to see the others. Only if it ain’t too much on you to do so.”

“Pfft. Must have been one hell of a nap if you wake up here and are still satisfied with it. In any case, it is nice to see you again. You seem to be taking being back in this place rather well though. Are you not that bothered by it?”

         “Uhhhh well just a little. Last few times I was here, I threw parties and helped my friends feel better so I guess I’m here for a reason, y’know what I’m sayin’?” That was the connection he made, anyway. Tetsuya was horrified at the idea that something bad happened to his friends again.
