Wu is smart but also very stupid.
Wu forgets to eat sometimes.
Wu has fallen asleep at their desk while working in the middle of the night.
Wu hates being alone.
Wu is very good at walking in platform heels.
Wu has an incredible spice tolorance.
Wu is constantly singing for no reason.
Wu will remind others in the midst of chaos how good they're being.
Wu sings in the shower.
Wu can drive.

(noted in the Avatar Legends Core book about the Earth Kingdom in the Korra Era after the events of The Ruins of the Empire comic:
King Wu slowly works to turn the Earth Kingdom into a democracy.
Guan is imprisoned, but some of his brainwashing technologies are unaccounted for and may be developed into new forms for which there is no cure.
The poorest villages of the Earth Kingdom are economically devastated by the manipulations of two failed Earth Empires.
interesting issues to touch upon in regards to wu rebuilding the earth kingdom)

The Earth King watched the former Fire Lord in cautious curious silence, taking in his reaction to all the options of titles he had offered. Wu didn't take him to be as... severe as his daughter, at least just in comparison to the intense glare Izumi had given him, which could've easily been classified as a third degree burn — and she didn't even have to use her firebending. Granted, this time he was actually joking instead of making a complete fool of himself with offering silly solutions to a serious problem.
A single royal brow flicked up upon seeing a smirk then the other brow joined the first, happily surprised that he managed to make him laugh. Well, it seemed more like a memory had amused him, but Wu still took it as a victory as he grinned at the triumphant feeling in his chest. Offering an anecdote had to be a positive thing, right?
"Honestly, hearing stories from basically a living legend would be an honor," he offered, regaining some of that politeness back in his tone after chuckling a bit himself. His gaze trailed down the silver locks that waterfalled down Zuko's shoulders then wondered when if all this stress of being a king would result in something like that much sooner than he would've liked. Not that it was a bad look on Zuko. At least he still had hair. However, he wondered what this guy was like as a grump.
"But... what you said about feeling like what I built would fall apart: I kind of feel that." He paused. "Well. More so if I make one wrong move, people will quickly assume I'm back to my old ways of not taking all of this," he rose his hands vaguely in front of him, "People's homes, lives, wellbeing — everything — seriously. Or, like, they'd assume I would somehow follow in the footsteps of my predecessor."
He huffed, causing the carefully styled bangs of his hairdo to flutter in front of his face. "I mean I'm used to the spotlight — admittedly, even craved it back then— but the context now is way different. Always being watched for different reasons instead of ones that I choose."
He pressed his lips against his tented fingers then realized that he rambled again and rose his hands up in defence. "I'm not complaining, just to be clear. And like I said, I know when to take breaks. I just..." His voice trailed off as he took a moment to try to find the right words without being too redundant. "I guess I'm realizing there aren't really any 'true' breaks once you take on the figurative and literal mantle, huh?"
Zuko responded with a slow blink, a breath through the nose, the faintest quirk of one brow. He’d long grown used to the way younger rulers tested boundaries in conversation. Especially ones like Wu, who used humor as a shield when things got too close to the bone. But there was no irritation in him. If anything, he appreciated the effort. He gave a soft grunt, the sound sitting somewhere between amusement and resignation. “Gramps,” he repeated, dryly. “That’s a new one.” He didn’t look offended. Not in the slightest. If anything, his gaze on Wu was steady and knowing, as though he saw right through the bravado and let it pass without calling it out.
“You can call me Zuko,” he said simply. “Titles come and go. What matters is the person behind them.” He let that sit for a moment before adding, with the faintest edge of a smirk, “…Gramps, huh?” Zuko let out a rare, genuine laugh, “Mai called me that the day she spotted my first gray hair. Said I finally looked as grumpy as I sounded.” He shook his head, still smiling. “Just be prepared for me to start telling long stories about the war every time you do.”

This time he couldn't hold in the amused scoff that slipped past his lips at Zuko's remark about missing meetings. There was a fleeting thought that crossed Wu's mind of him possibly feeling like that in the future, but, at this moment, that felt far, far away.
Wu let the firebender's words sink in, his own thoughts percolating with them while he laced his fingers together before placing his chin on them as he propped himself up by his elbows at the arms of the chair he now slouched forward in to keep this position.
"Sooooo...." he dragged the word out. "Do I just call you 'Zuko'? Or something else?" In an instant, he dropped the formalities, taking on a more casual cadence. "Because I assume 'Your Majesty' is off the table now since 'Fire Lord' is out. Or maybe 'Uncle'?" He paused as he pursed his lips in apprehension at his next suggestion "... Gramps even?" Truly, he was just testing the waters, mostly as an attempt to add some levity before his true response to Zuko's words of wisdom.
Zuko watched Wu with the quiet patience of someone who had spent decades learning when to speak and when to simply listen. The younger king's ramble didn't annoy him. If anything, it stirred a flicker of recognition. He had seen that same uncertain posture in the mirror once. At Wu’s apology, Zuko shook his head, a soft exhale escaping him, somewhere between a laugh and a sigh.
“You don’t have to call me Fire Lord,” he said, his tone calm, carrying the weight of years but none of the heaviness his title once demanded. “And you don’t have to apologize for being tired. It’s easy to forget that the crown doesn’t make us invincible. It just makes us visible. People see the robe, the throne, the speeches, and not what it costs us.” He paused, letting that truth settle before continuing, more gently, “You’re allowed to feel the weight of it. That doesn’t make you weak. It makes you human.”
A faint smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. “And honestly,” he added, his voice lighter now, “I’m glad to be stepping in for Izumi while she’s recovering. Retirement sounds peaceful, but it gets boring faster than people think.” He gave a small, amused shrug. “There’s only so much tea and turtle-duck watching a man can do before he starts missing meetings.”

Wu lifted his gaze, meeting Zuko's and taking a moment to study the lines on the former Fire Lord's face. If they had interacted earlier in Wu's life, his thoughts would've aligned more toward associating those wrinkles as a foreboding warning to what his future held if he kept furrowing his royal brow. However, he now saw them as a badge of honor for a life lived for as long as he had. Wu knew a good number of stories about Zuko, his friendship with the previous Avatar, and the restructure of the Fire Nation, so it wasn't lost on him that there was a wealth of wisdom, knowledge, and history sitting near him.
After taking himself out of his reverie for a moment, the Earth King smirked a little. "Believe me, I am definitely no stranger to indulging in a good break," he said with a little huff of a laugh before straightening his posture. "Unlike a certain former body guard who's as stubborn as an ox-rhino that I know of," Wu managed to murmur under his breath.
"But..."
He paused, letting the word hang in the air for a moment before shaking his head and took on a formal facade. "I apologize, Fire Lord Zuko. I don't mean to air my troubles out to you, especially since you're technically... not Fire Lord anymore. Er, that's not to say I don't enjoy or appreciate your words and company. Completely the opposite."
Zuko glanced at Wu, noting the slump in his shoulders, the way his sigh lingered longer than it should have. He was quiet for a moment, remembering how hard it had been for him all those years ago, rebuilding a nation.
“I used to think needing rest was a weakness,” he said finally, his voice gentle. “That if I stopped moving, even for a second, everything I’d built would fall apart.” His gaze softened as he added, “But leadership isn’t just about pushing through. It’s about knowing when to stop and breathe, too. You’re not failing anyone by being tired, Wu.”

While he wasn't currently at his desk, Wu could still picture the large stack of documents he had tackled earlier that day. He sighed probably more dramatically than he needed as he slumped forward, betraying his usual prim and proper posture befitting of his royal status. "I'm in need of a vacation..."

"I'm saying this as your friend, but maybe... " Wu paused as he percolated for a moment more to construct a a gentle way to put his next string of words together. "Just maybe… you'll perhaps consider a... uh... second attempt at your outfit before we head out?"
