Random train of thought

I never really grew up with a lot of social pressure. I never was really popular tbh, and I didn’t really have a lot of pop culture influence, so I think it’s become an asset to the way I think. It’s become more prevalent in the way we live right now with prejudice and pressure to conform to a certain way. One example is actually a tattoo one. I don’t really understand why it’s called a Tramp stamp if you get a small tattoo on your tailbone or lower back?

I don’t understand why social and racial prejudice exists if we all breathe and are essentially a similar makeup. Like yes, someone may look different but they have thoughts even if they may not be able to speak them in a way intelligible to others. People choose to be religious or atheist or kind of in between because it’s a personal mental resolve, so why hold it against them?

As I mentioned, i never really was exposed to a lot of celebrity media as a child, which had its advantages. I know it may seem stuck up, but I have a really good personal image, I don’t think I look bad, i think I’m a decent weight, but i don’t think it’s worth everyone’s time, so i do get flustered when I’m complimented, and I don’t accept compliments because it seems arrogant. I think this causes a lot of people to think I have low self esteem, which maybe I do, but I don’t exactly know myself.

On a reverse, I’m really confused on a lot of things, Like I guess a personal example is when I started for the first time. Back in the fourth grade, all of the girls went to the music room with their mothers and the school nurse and the high school nurse talked with us about how to put in a pad, and the like. But about 3 years later, I was still really confused, so I told nobody. Which led to my parents being utterly horrified in a Orlando mall while I was finding new shoes because we would be in Disney that full week, only to find a small red stain on my shorts. In short, I cried a bit because I was embarrassed and confused.

Going back on the “I wasn’t popular” I mean it as in I never had a lot of friends? I’m nice to a lot of people, but I’m not emotionally close to them. So for a good portion of my life so far, I’ve been pretty independent. Another part of fourth grade was having someone who I thought was one of my closest male friends begin to bully me on a mental scale, and someone (who is ironically one of my best friends now? She mellowed a lot since then, and she’s my salty friend I love her) who had been a new student coming in from a nearby school that was closing, start talking to my best friend at the time, and I felt excluded. She wasn’t really the nicest about it then. But I digress they both had a similar background which I won’t dilvulge because while I’m ok with sharing my own personal experiences, they may not be. And back on ex male best friend, I to this day do not know his problem, I had a rest from it up from 6th grade until a little bit into 8th grade, where I was in my first hour and i was shoved around a bit while getting my papers, and the guy, who had done it, made it seem like I bumped into him, so he barked in my ear to move. I went to my mother, both of my parents knew this kid gave me problems, and the next time she saw him, she was a substitute teacher, she told him off about it.

Time skip to second semester of my 10th grade year, which was from January to May this year. I would take a less crowded way to my 5th hour, which meant going through the English hall, and it was peaceful until the guy and his friends started picking up on this, and one day made a wall to block me from passing and then walked really slowly. I was able to squeeze through and I apologized to a girl on the edge who really didn’t know what was going on, I had bumped into her a couple of times while trying to get through.

The next couple of weeks went without problems, but it started again, I was walking through, and the guy was walking in front of me, and he started to cross the hall over to where I was, trying to cut me off, and to test if he was seriously doing what I thought he was doing, I moved to the side to a bit. Lo and behold he did the same. His friends (all guys) started to cut me off as well, but not making a wall, and I squeezed past, hurriedly apologized and started to walk, almost run past them. The guys made various disappointed noises, and the main guy jogs in front of me to cut me off again. So I take off at a sprint, and the guy does the same. Mind you he’s at least a head and a half taller than me, so obviously passing me wasn’t a big task, but I had made it to the staircase, didn’t even look in back of me, but he had given up. The next day he pointed me out in the hall as I passed by and said I “tried to race him and lost” i just rolled my eyes at that statement.

And finally, this happened week before last. I had been walking once again from lunch to 5th hour, I had my earbuds in and I had my music turned up. The guy comes up probably 2 feet in back of me, and yells my name. I ignore, and a Senior I knew, who is really sweet but sometimes I can’t handle, walked up next to me, I think she noticed I was a bit distressed, and so maybe that’s why she came up, either way I thanked her. The guy said something, I’m guessing it was a catcall or something rude about one of us, because the senior then flipped the guy off without turning around (I had honestly been wanting to do that since the beginning, I later thanked her) and I was left alone for the remainder of the year (reminder it wasn’t too long anyway. I still need to ask what happened and what the guy said, since I didn’t hear. It was probably better I didn’t.

I’m just a little concerned for next year because of this. But I’ll deal with it when it comes to.

Jihoon nodded. He knew he did. Mingyu knew that he knew, though he still offered up the compliment. They stood eye to eye, a sight the both had just recently gotten used to. Jihoon’s new shoes for the upcoming award ceremony had just come in the previous day, and they needed to be broken in.

The day of the ceremony finally came, and many different groups and companies were there to be acknowledged for their hard work. Jihoon stepped out of the car and into the camera flashes of the photographers there, the glitter of his platform heels making heads turn.

He and the rest of seventeen posed for individual photos before all coming together for a few group ones. “Tallest in the back!” A photographer called, and he and Mingyu took their rightful places in the middle back of the group. After the photos were taken, they all left to go find their seats in the building.

Many people approached him that night to compliment his shoes, and he easily tossed most of those compliments back. There were so many different styles that he saw, holographic, studded, one idol even wore some covered in flames. They were all interesting and attention-grabbing, and he even took some mental notes in his head on what style of shoes he should pick up in the future.

The awards ceremony was over far too soon, it seemed to him, but he was glad to get home and rest. The next morning, as he scrolled through his phone, he found multiple articles stating that he was one of the best dressed idols of the night, and that the shoes he had bought were trending online and in stores. Jihoon felt somewhat proud of himself. After all, he deserved to be named best dressed. Especially after wearing 8 inch platform heels all night.

SEVENTEEN’S “THANKS” CHOREOGRAPHY IS THE BEST K-POP CHOREOGRAPHY OF ALL TIME YOU CAN FIGHT ME ON THIS I DO NOT CARE IT’S THE BEST THING EVER!!

Listen, as a dancer myself, this is coming from a dancer’s point of view:

*I’ve been doing pre-professional dancing in Ballet/Pointe, Contemporary, Modern, Jazz, Musical Theater, all that. I have some experience in Hip-hop but I’m useless really in that category. However, Seventeen’s “Thanks” choreography combines Ballet, Contemporary and sorts of Hip-hop/ Seventeen’s own style of quick and sharp yet elongated movements in it as well. Therefore, this analysis has been fairly easy to break down and stuff, Just like “Don’t Wanna Cry.”

Watching the MV and watching the Choreography video, I can ensure you that this is so fucking beautiful that I was deeply moved and in amazement that this was Seventeen, but then again it’s like “Don’t Wanna Cry,” that shit had me in tears. I truly believe that Hoshi likes to choreograph in a way that will showcase not only Seventeen’s potential but each member’s potential as well; he likes to keep their strength and weaknesses in mind. I don’t think I’ve ever felt this way about a K-Pop choreo since Taemin’s “Move” and “Day and Night” came out.

I’ll later get into what I feel about the members and stuff.

Let’s start at the beginning:

The beginning starts with them sitting on the floor with their pinkies interlocked; the pinky finger with their Seventeen ring and the other without it, a signal as their promise with Carats I assume. The beginning is kinda similar to Don’t Wanna Cry, with walking and slight movements before starting into their signature sharp movements.

(Honestly, their synchronization with each other never ceases to amaze me)

Their use of different dynamics in terms of levels and ripples. THE RIPPLES!!!!!!!

THE RIPPLESSSSs!!

BITCH THE RIPPLES ARE SO CLEAN AND CLEAR IM SCREAMING ITS EVERYTHING

Not only that but the transitions itself are clean and clear as well that I can’t help but to get goosebumps. I always feel like if you are to include ripples in your choreography, it has to be crisp and the transitions have to be well done as well. Synchronization is a must also. It’s a huge pet peeve of mine when a ripple has none of this, I hate it.

But once again, Seventeen checks all of these off and never disappoints.

Into the chorus, it’s really not what it seems. To others, the movements seem wild and frantic, making an illusion of it being fast and difficult to do/attempt. In reality, the moves are really slow and are easy to do if you pay attention. Once again, Seventeen’s signature sharp yet elongated movements play a huge role in this. I also realized this (in the bridge leading to the chorus) that everything is really simple movements that have been modified with things added or taken away to truly make it their own.

I’M SKIPPING TO JUN AND HOSHI’S PART BECAUSE

GURL LEMME TELL YOUUUUUU

My guess is that the members on the ground portray flower petals (I get that from the movement of the arms) and Jun and Hoshi are plucking its petals as if that childhood game “He loves me, He loves me not.” That may not be it but either way, it’s very creative. I’ve seen people portray non-human or inanimate things, so flowers are normal, but laying down??? Where usually the audience cant’s see but their arms?? That’s hella creativity to me!!

Going into the second chorus, this is where I start talking about the members… well really Minghao (The8) and Jihoon (Woozi).

Yes, we all know Minghao’s style is B-boying, but really after watching the choreography video and then watching again to watch only Minghao, I think this type of style truly fits him. Jihoon too, both move so fluently and effortlessly (they all do, but these two are just wow). I really think people need to start paying attention to these two more often when it comes to dancing. B-boying/flips/martial arts, yes that’s Minghao. Singing his ass off and composing music, yes that’s Jihoon.

But contemporary-like dancing?? I suspected something when seeing these two in Don’t Wanna Cry but this just justifies my suspicions

You know how you feel when seeing Jimin performing Lie?

Or Taemin performing (any of his songs really) Move?

Or Kai with his MAMA 2017 performance (can we talk about that plz?) ??

That’s how I feel about Minghao and Jihoon in this :’))

This also refers back to me saying that Hoshi likes to choreograph in a way that will showcase not only Seventeen’s potential but each member’s potential as well… this is what I mean.

Musicality! I believe this is essential because of the way Seventeen’s songs are. In general, it’s nice to dance on the beat because it creates a strong and emotional effect, however, it’s nice to go off the beat as well. It gives a nice change of pace and changes the scenery/image of the dance. Sometimes it gets boring always seeing a dance, dance on top of the beat because it becomes predictable and expectant and honestly the audience likes to be surprised. The only way to not cause boredom is for the dance moves to go faster yet stay on beat.

Let’s take BTS’s DNA as an example. There are multiple parts in the choreography where it changes in pace but stays on beat. (Spring Day is another good example as well) That’s their style. As much as I LOVE BTS, sometimes I get bored with the choreography because it’s rare that they go off beat with their moves. Not saying they don’t do it, but it’s rare. That’s why I like watching J-Hope and Jimin mostly when it comes to dancing, they’re not afraid to experiment off the music. I think it’s just for the sake of the other members that aren’t that well trained in dancing like they were that they stay on beat. I mean that in the sense of no disrespect but like, Jimin has modern dancing background and J-Hope hip ho and B-boying and… yeah ANYWAY

Seventeen tends to dance on the beat as well, that’s how they get their sharp and elongated moves. But the reason for their choreography to never bore me is because they have small moments when they do go off the music. It’s quick though, so it usually goes unnoticed. This is when DK sings “ gomabda gomabda tto gomabda ppunijiman”

This is getting pretty long so I’ll start summarizing the rest now. In the end, they start repeating their movements from the 1st chorus and goes back to the beginning. If you were to rewind it from the end, you’ll see that they are ending it with the same movements they did in the beginning; it’s a connection. Something Hoshi likes to do apparently. All in all, it’s wonderful.

This little analysis may not be enough proof for a lot of people to see how ABSOLUTELY AMAZING this dance is but for me it’s more than enough. All of the creativity, its dynamics, movements, it’s so different from other k-pop dances I can’t even think of a dance that can come close to this except Don’t Wanna Cry, which I went back to and saw that they have pulled some moves from there. You aren’t sneaky Hoshi.

Hoshi and Seventeen continue to outdo themselves. Their dances are never messy, it’s well organized. Hoshi (with the help of the performance team of course) utilizes every member so even when they’re not singing or are in the center, they still create beautiful formations, even if it’s something simple. I’ve been with them since their [pre-debut days and seeing their dance evolve every day is stunning.

Please understand that I’m not making this to bash any other groups and their dances, I am multi-fandom and enjoy the artwork that is other group’s choreography and performances. But it’s just something in Thanks that pulled out the dancer side of me and said “Yes! This is the choreography that did it! Everyone needs to see just how nicely this was created.”

Ah, as much as I would like to scream I’m not crying, you are, I am in all honestly, crying. I love these boys so much, I love how much warmth they’ve brought into my life, how they’ve helped my mental attitude towards myself, and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to repay the kind looks and sincerity they have shown.

you know what really hit me about thanks is that ,,, the instrumental really perfectly describes seventeen. they literally started from nothing. cheol was in the company when tempest was supposed to be a thing and jihoon just wanted to make music. hansol was the kid who was always different and he stopped school because he wanted to create instead of just being someone. seungkwan is a small town boy with big dreams. above all, soonyoung just wanted to dance. minghao was the kid who barely spoke korean when he started training. junhui was the kid with the set future, the one who was in one of china’s top schools and played piano and was excellent in every field he was in. wonwoo was quiet and silent and yet he did so much for the people he really cared about. mingyu was the pretty boy who everyone often thought wouldn’t amount to anything. seokmin was the main vocal who always got sidelined, the kid who just wanted to sing. jisoo moved from america and the only thing he had that reminded him of his life in america was probably the guitar he had, and he just wanted to sing. jeonghan was the picture perfect kid who dreamed with his eyes open and treasured his music above anything else and anyone else. chan was so damn young when he started training and he gave all the things normal kids have, like friends and free time, because he had a vision and a dream and he knew exactly where he wanted to be. the thirteen of them were always dreamers. they dreamed, they hoped, and most importantly, they followed through.

so think of seventeen who started from nothing. from the green practice room and the swinging guitar and the emo haircuts. from the constant delays and named t-shirts. from the pod-casts and lives. from 17 project. so think of the thirteen of them. seungcheol, the leader, doe eyed and always ready to help. jeonghan, the sharp-eyed, witty hyung who always knew what to say. jisoo, warm, smiling, careful, reserved (and once upon a time, homesick before he became) settled. junhui, music at his fingertips and love in his voice and a million untold stories in his eyes. soonyoung, who tells his stories with the way he closes his eyes when he dances, who tells his stories with his body and all of him. wonwoo, misunderstood, heart warm, every heartbeat dedicated to running and running behind who he wanted to be as a child. jihoon, music in the way he spoke, music in him when he did anything, who breathed music and thought about music all the time, who loved and treasured seventeen above everything else. minghao, going from struggling in korean to openly speaking what he wanted to, who is so shy and yet so much more, who smiles at everyone, who makes us smile. mingyu, tall, clumsy, handsome, but above all, who broke down all the barriers that stood between him and his dream, who bypassed all the criticism to become a role model for so many of us. seokmin, sunshine in his eyes, sunshine in his smile, sunshine in his voice, who always looked at us with so much fondness and love whenever he could, who always expressed himself so beautifully with his words. seungkwan, who never wants us to have a bad day, who always tells us to look after ourselves and loves us so wholeheartedly and fully and makes us laugh even if we don’t want to. hansol, the kid who grew up so much from his experiences, who is so quiet and so reserved and yet so wild and uncontrolled and so relatable, who writes music and just wanted to create. chan, who danced and danced as a kid, chan who probably never had a significant other, chan who’s first love was his music, chan who grew up so well, chan who loves and respects his twelve brothers so much. 

and now think of where they are.

the thanks they speak of in this song is heartfelt because it’s the most unrestrained kind of thanks. it’s the wild, desperate kind of thank you. it speaks so much and so little at the same time. thank you for staying, thank you for being here, thank you for listening, thank you for believing, thank you for always trusting us, thank you for yesterday and the day before and the very first day and tomorrow and the day after and the very last day. that’s what i hear when i shut my eyes and listen to the song. it’s a thank you that’s filled with so much that it echoes in the bass and the percussion and the vocals.

Tell me once more that we don’t need gun control laws

Today after school, my school gave out a one call to my mother, addressing that a middle schooler had brought a hand gun to school today and forgot it was in his bag, and He turned it into the school’s police officer, apparently he had a permit to carry.

(Just as a note, Indiana State law prohibits minors (under 18) from carrying firearms not meant for hunting. Gun licenses are for legal adults 18+Hunting licenses require classes to obtain.)

A few minutes later, my mom gets sent a link to the official police report.

It it was not a Middle schooler nor was it left in his school bag.

It was an 18 year old student, who brought a LOADED GLOCK AND LEFT IT IN HIS POCKET.

He asked the police officer to “Cut him some slack”
