In The Final Mystery, I almost had it revealed that years had passed between Amelia abducting Jindosh and him waking up in her lab— that he just kept relapsing and forgetting over and over again. The plot would have been largely the same, except people he’d “never met before” would weirdly know him. And Amelia would act strangely around him, as they’d fallen in love at least two dozen times by then. It would have culminated in Kirin finding out somehow and becoming distraught, realizing he would relapse again soon and forget, so he asks Amelia to kill him. She won’t do it and it dawns on him that he must have asked her the same thing every other relapse and she had denied him this for her own selfish need to be with him and fix him. Anyway. Obviously ditched that storyline for a more complex, world-building one. But still good in concept!!
