It's been raining for the past 3 days, most of our plants are not appreciating this little spring cleansing, the dogs don't want to leave the house not even to do their things, but the cat is enthusiastic. He doesn't mind playing out at all.

Good news I've been studying again, since I was able to break through the fee situation, even though there is still a lot to pay. I realize how priviledged I am to be able to make these sacrifices to get an education, even though I'm not sure about what may come next.

A magical place in Southern Italy: Monte Sant'Angelo, Gargano; Puglia (Italia)

First, let's talk about the name of this place: it means "mountain of the holy angel", and the motive behind it is to be found in the local folklore: local tradition claims that a wealthy local lost one of his bulls, and found it a few days later stuck in an almost inaccessible cavern. Realizing how it would be impossible to help the bull, he decided to kill it shooting an arrow which inexplicably turned back around and hit him. The man told the bishop of Siponto what happened, and 3 days of penitence were given to the local population. On the third day, 8th May 490, Archangel Micheal appeared to the bishop, prescribing the dedication of the cavern to his worship. This event is known as the apparition of the bull.

Archangel Micheal later appeared to the local bishop in 492 and 493.

In the 7th century, the Longobards elevated the cavern to their national shrine.

In the second half of the 11th century the sacred cavern became a mandatory stop for the crusaders going to the holy Land.

In my experience, Monte Sant'Angelo is an incredibly magic place where old energies still breath and live and Spirits are remarkably present. The nearby Foresta Umbra exudes magic with its beech and yew trees. Interestingly, the folklore says that prince Frederick 2 utilized a powerful narcotic extracted from the yew tree, known as taxine, to kill his lovers. Modern medicine utilizes taxine alkaloids to produce tamoxifen, used in the treatment of breast cancer especially.

The forest is home to a variety of animal species like hares, squirrels, pheasants, boars, deers, roe deers, woodpeckers, weasels, foxes, wild cats, ravens, blackbirds, robins, and a number of birds of prey both diurnal and nocturnal. Recently, the previously disappeared appenninic wolf has returned, thanks to policies of protection of the territory.

Not to talk about the different species of beautiful mushrooms which inhabit the mossy trees.

The Gargano promontory is also a biodiversity hotspot for orchids: there are more than 80 different known orchid species, belonging to 17 genera.
