Ah she was being honest with him. He was glad. The knight had known what it was like to restrain your emotions. Your feelings. Your pain. Your anger. It had consumed him and destroyed him. Turned him into something he had never wanted to be. Turned Lancelot, Knight of The Lake into Lancelot a knight of betrayal. 

He believed her when she said she couldn’t hate him. Even if in a way...he wanted to be hated he knew she was too good at heart for that. Too noble and just to hate him. Much like how his king was... 

“Loholt....thank you for your honesty. I know how hard this must have been for you to say but know that I appreciate it. I am sorry for what I had done to you. For letting you down. For letting all of Camelot down. There is nothing I can say that could offer you in recompense for my sins. For the pain I caused you, but I will do whatever it is that you ask of me.” Lancelot said as he knelt before Loholt. This was what he had always wanted. To be openly and honestly judged. To be questioned. It was only fitting for him. This was how one who’s sole purpose was as a tool for a kingdom should be treated. However he no longer had a kingdom. None of them did. The days of Camelot were long over and long dead. Now there was only ghosts.

Lancelot looked at her sadly. Did she truly value her own opinion so little? He sighed. Of course she did. She valued the opinion of the king far more then she valued her own opinions and feelings. In a way Lancelot could relate to her on that. He too had thrown aside his opinions and feelings on matters often in favor of what the king said. Of what the king commanded. For that is what a knight does…they serve their king. 

In a way Loholt was the perfect knight. Only following what the king said and did. Never straying from that, no matter how much she might want to. Lancelot could very easily understand it. For that had been the life he had led for so long until he no longer could. Until he could no longer stand by and watch someone he cared about suffer…

He knew the pain that came from keeping your emotions and opinions at bay. From never straying from the path nor saying what pained and troubled you. His heart felt pity for Loholt. For the younger knight in the same situation he had been in.

“Loholt….you don’t have to follow what the king says solely. If you hate me…say it. If you despise me…say it. The king wouldn’t be mad at you. Keeping those feelings inside…that was what led to my mistakes. Please Loholt…don’t follow my example in that regard.” The knight said solemnly.

It really was…Just too much. It was far, far too much for her to manage- Slaying a giant seemed like a trivial task in comparison to the thought of admitting freely her feelings. So long had she told herself her thoughts and feelings were irrelevant, that they were bothersome and troublesome to those whom she admired- And that someone who she’d viewed as her superior would encourage Loholt to share them, to release the emotions that seemed always on the edge of boiling over… It left her at a near impasse- Too desiring to speak to not, but too cautious to allow such an unfathomable action. Near, however, because as she quickly considered how she might reconcile this situation- How she might deny the anger and feelings that really were there, or how she might allow herself to speak openly, without her better judgement stopping her - it occurred to her that it was a request from Lancelot.

Lowly she may be- Yet, Loholt thought of herself as a Knight nonetheless, and no matter how she might frame it, a request from Lancelot was not one that could be ignored. In one manner, looking to him still as her superior- It was an order. Looking at it from the other angle- It was a innocuous request made to a Knight. She could not deny such a thing, not on her good conscious.

That was her trick- Telling herself that, then…Then, only with that in mind, could she finally speak. Even then, those words did not come at all easily to her.

“…Ha…Perhaps it would be easier to simply hate you, Sir Lancelot…But, even with all the anger and bitterness that I’ve felt towards you…No, I could never…Never truly hate you. There is but one person alone whom I’d allow myself to feel such loathing towards- But that person…Certainly isn’t you. No…Never you. Someone like yourself…I’ve always admired you greatly, Sir Lancelot. Your strength, loyalty, skill- Those were all things I wished to emulate, to strive for in myself. You served the King so faithfully, until…Then…It would hurt me far less if I simply hated you, I think- But even now, I cannot help it. I cannot forgive betraying the King- But there is too much good about you, Sir Lancelot. If such were not the case, you would not feel so much concern for my sake, worry that I might follow in your path.” Loholt gave a weary and sad smile, exhaling shakily.

“You were always among the most noble of us, Sir Lancelot. So intensely I admired you…I suppose a part of me felt all the more fearful of myself…Knowing you, who I’d held as one of our greatest and most loyal members, could go against what the King had ordered. All I have ever wished for is to be of use…If someone as resolute as yourself could stray from Arthur’s path, then what of myself…? The mere hypothetical pains me to imagine. But I still, and always shall…Feel my existence is in your debt, and follow in the example of the valiant Knight of the Lake that I looked up to. It tears me apart within- A piece of me does not wish to acknowledge you at all, and yet another can only idolize you…I cannot forgive you, Sir Lancelot…But it is entirely impossible that I could hate you.”

“Ah yes, it seems that the other masters were looking for you, if you are free I wouldn’t mind taking you to where they are.” The knight responded to the blonde man. In a way from what he had heard, he had expected him to be taller, however he should know better considering how his own king wasn’t quite tall either.

It made him slightly chuckle in remembrance. A good memory to him.

“Ah my apologies I was just remembering something.” The knight explained.

“Ah you are Leonardo Harway correct?” The knight asked the boy before him. He had been sent out to look for him, he had heard from around Chaldea that he was royalty of some kind. To a degree this interested Lancelot, to meet a royal from these new ages rather then from his own. This would surely be interesting.

Lancelot looked at the older wizard before him. His words were wise and correct but still...in his heart it was hard to move on from that. From the self loathing and unwillingness to move on. However the knight knew it was time for him to change. If things were to get better he had to change. He couldn’t keep sinking into his old habits again and again. This was a second chance and he needed to take it.

“Thank you Gandalf, you truly are very wise.” The knight said with a smile as he looked up towards the bearded old man.

“I would gladly take up your offer.”

Gandalf considered Lancelot for a moment before asking the knight, “How can your king know that you’re willing to serve if you do not make that clear yourself?” He leaned slightly on his oak staff. “Your king does not call upon you because she thinks that you do not wish to be called upon. She has a noble heart and deems that you are a man free to do as you please.” He frowned deeper. “Offer your sword to her, Sir Lancelot. Offer your allegiance, if you so wish to be her vassal again. It will be hard to do so, and harsh words may be traded, and perhaps she will not accept your service. However, a deed tried is better than a deed never sought.”

Hey so I want to apologize for my frequent disappearances and drops in activity and unmade starters. Despite my own personal stuff it’s not really ok and I’m going to work to correct this. I will be posting up another starter call soon and if anyone wants one again feel free to give it a like/reblog. Once again I’m incredibly sorry for my spotty activity and I’ll be trying to get more active again, this time hopefully permanently.
