A formal complaint about Lightlark. Respectively.
Now, I am very aware there is a lot of complaints but also I want to complain.
Firstly, Grim took Isla's memories. Rude? And she fell in love with him again. Okay, sure. Cool. And then she fell in love with Oro. Okay, cool. Love V. (When person B and C like person A at the same time, and A likes both of them. A love triangle is when A likes B, B likes C, and C likes A.) What I don't understand is why Grim thinks they should still be together!? And their relationship is so not there. Oro and Isla had things in common. They got along and worked together. Grim did...what? Argue with her, flirt with her, and then demand her love because of a relationship HE wiped from her memory. Also all they do together is canoodle! And some people don't like Oro x Isla. Understood. They could be amazing friends if they don't work out but introducing him (someone who is a decent person) and choosing GRIM as her lover? Ew and no and please find better men to date.
Secondly, Isla doesn't know any better. (Which is why she should be with Oro WHO CAN LEARN WITH HER.) At the end of the first book she tells Oro she wants to take it slow. Cool! Understandable! The next book starts and she's already trying to canoodle with the poor man!!!! Character consistency where? She also mentions several times after gaining powers that she wants to do better and make her own decisions. What does she do? Listen to anybody but herself. She does NOT deserve any of the power that she has and time and time again she can't use it! And she's supposed to have done all this training and be so skilled without powers but she's useless in every fight! I swear that necklace Grim gave her was to keep her from dying so early in the book because she would have died.
Third, The ending for the second book makes me so mad. There is, as far as i'm aware, no foreshadowing for the ending. Plot twists for surprise factor because "Haha I can surprise my readers!" is not a good reason for a plot twist! Also shouldn't the second book be about her and Oro? And the poor man. Oro had little to zero character progression throughtout all three of the so far published books. Poor, poor Oro is practically ignored because everybody is swooning over the ugly, dumb, no-good villain who threatens death on isla's friends and family because she didn't like him anymore!!!!! How is that likable? He also never mentions her personality(given she doesn't have one) or her impact on his life. He just wants to horizontally tango with her. Oro atleast acknowledges that she made him a better guy. And he let her go! He (spoiler?) flew all the way across the world or wherever lightlark takes place just to check on her and make sure she was okay. He LET HER GO. Isla was even told how much he was struggling without her and HE LET HER GOOOOOO. AND THEN SHE LIED TO HIM!!!!!!!! AND BETRAYED HIM!?!?!?!?! FOR WHAT?
Finally(drumroll please...), the third book sucked. You can tell the publishers are just trying to draw the series out. You can skip the entire third book. What do we learn? That one Wilding creator lady is alive, hates Isla, other stuff idk. Oro is just thrown off the love V because... 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️. (even though he is so much better) Isla betrays him so badly and it makes me so frustrated. AND SHE STILL HAS FEELINGS? AND HE STILL HELPS HER? Not to mention the whole mountain sequence with Grim was not needed. They went to one prophet which told them what they already knew, then Isla travelled alone to ANOTHER prophet who gave her a tiny tid-bit of information but she also returns to this second prophet several times. Most scenes, really, were not needed and did nothing for the plot or the book. I get the need to force Grim x Isla even though it's a toxic relationship but it's so repetitive. And the way everything is just told to you? We're babied over metaphors but getting devil's tango scenes at every turn. And it's supposedly YA? No. Furthermore, the whole Grim, Isla, Oro love V was never settled???? As I stated, Oro loved her and let her go but LOVES HER. Isla, apparently, still loves Oro even though she chose to go with Grim. We know it's Grim x Isla even though it's a bad ship. We know Oro is going to die! The third book was crappidy crap. Just skip the series and find a video summary once the next two are published. It'll save you the frustration.

THIS. This needs to be said more!!!
Im actually going to complain a bit about Lightlark's character designs, more specifically Isla's, because you cannot tell me this woman

Is meant to represent an amazonian warrior princess who has been trained since she was a literal child to fight to the death with others like her.
Who had to build up her body strength in order to actually stand a chance against people much older than her, with magical powers, while she had none.
This isnt the artist's fault btw, they probably just followed Aster's instructions and did a great job at that. This is just a nitpick of mine against YA female main characters in general. Because women cannot be both femenine AND have muscles in YA books apparently.
So have a modern AU of my Isla redesign as a gift.

ISLA CROWN COULD'VE BEEN THE HOTTEST WOMAN ON ALL OF LIGHTLARK
BUFF WOMEN FOR THE FUCKING WIN
