i know movies think its badass when characters calmly accept their death but im so tired of it. like yeah depending on the context of the death it can work but sometimes i wanna see the wise mentor figure panicked and fearful for the first time. i want it to be clear that everyone involved tried so fucking hard to save them, including themselves, and it still wasnt enough. give! me! Imagine if getting core mental trauma was somehow audible or visible. Like you're already having a bad day and you're trying to wrangle two toddlers and a bag of groceries and work was ass and then you hear the sound of something shattering and you just know that one of your kids' emotional core and sense of basic safety just fucking broke and you can't even tell which one it was.

i think we should extend a little more grace to people who were indoctrinated who have realized their way of thinking is wrong/harmful/problematic and are now doing the work to unlearn large portions of their belief system

It seems like the older I get, the more irrationally angry casual censorship makes me. And it isn't just the "unalive" "grape" alleged filter-dodging vernacular, but the way normal words will be peppered with asterisks, or screenshots will have words like "gay" "hell" "fuck" etc either partially or entirely blurred. Who is this helping? What is the purpose of it, except to reinforce shame and elevate a flimsy perception of purity and safety, however those things manifest. It's so tiresome and I'm sick of it.

my number one tip for oc design is to get so obsessed you draw them 200 times over the course of two months. then whichever details you consistently forget/simplify? retcon em. boom. effective memorable character design. works every time.
