I had another MCU thought.

I was thinking about CACW and how shitty it was of Rogers to keep the truth about the Starks’ deaths from Tony, when my thoughts turned to Howard.

Howard pretty clearly cared a lot about Rogers. Tony says he cared more about Rogers than he did Tony. We know Howard spent fifty years (from the 1940s to 1991, when he died) searching for Rogers, desperately trying to either save him or at least bring his body home.

And Rogers repaid that friendship and care by being a dick to Howard’s son and concealing the truth about Howard and his wife’s brutal murders to protect their murderer whilst using their son’s money and resources to search for their murderer.

What a phenomenal arsehole.

WinterIron Bookmark Bingo - December Engagement

Bless the discord mods for allowing us participants a catch-up month for any missed prompts, because December simply did not exist this year, I had zero free time. Anyways, on with the recommendations! This month I have 3 fics for you all. (It was originally going to be 2 fics and 1 piece of fanart, but I seem to have lost the tumble art post, though more fics is also good!) All 3 are (relatively) short, single chapter ficlets.

First, is "Out in the Cold", by ceealaina on AO3. It's set in the modern day and has a cute, avengers-family snowman-building competition for charity happening in the compound!

Next is "Ice to Meet you", by Politzania on AO3 (@polizwrites)and it's a meet cute where Tony slips on ice and falls on his butt in front of Bucky, it gave me all the feels!

Last, is "Winter's Gifts", by Ellster on AO3. It's got a little bit of a fantasy setting, which I absolutely loved, loved, LOVED!!

And for my prompt this month:

Christmas Tree decorating Or, you know, swap it out for Christmas lights on the outside of the house or other festive decor inside if you headcannon that they don't celebrate christmas. Basically, my prompt is decorating for the holidays! I feel like there would be many a spirited debate, and also a fair amount of fussing/one up man ship.

For example: “You can’t PUT that there, the frosty decoration can’t hang on the branch next to the grinch, the pop-culture paraphernalia needs to be spread around the tree!”

Or “nonono, you can’t go up on the compound roof for the lights, I’ll do it.” “You?” “Yes me” “I’m an assissin, I can hang Christmas lights on a roof” “But you could also fall OFF the roof, I fly” “I’m an assassin, Steve wasn’t the first one to chase me across a couple rooftops, I think I can manage to keep my balance.”

Aren't You Supposed to be a Genius? A Cold Toes Drabble

Bucky always knows when Tony’s had a nightmare.

He’s comfortable enough in the compound now, feels safe enough and trusts enough in the people around them that he’s not as light a sleeper as he used to be, and falls asleep again quickly when he wakes. 

So, Tony’s able to sneak out, go for a fly, and clear his head.

Bucky only wishes that with Tony constantly upgrading some suit part or another, he’d fix the damn boots. 

Because Bucky might not notice Tony leaving, but he always knows when he’s returned by his freezing-fucking feet; thank you boot insulation.

New Year, Same Party A Warm Beverage Drabble

New Years Eve might be for celebration, but New Years DAY was for reckoning.

Bucky had only wanted to spend a quiet evening curled under a blanket, with a book and hot chocolate.

(He’d had enough of being cold, and preferred warmth these days.)

But of course Clint and Thor had wanted to celebrate. And roped everyone into it. 

And Bucky had tried to hold onto his warm mug, but Tony had seen.

“There are other things you could be drinking that would make you warm,” Tony had teased, eyes sparkling. 

He couldn’t even stomach looking at alcohol this morning.

My Favourite Season is You A Snowball Fight drabble

Winter might just be his favourite season. 

Sure, he had plenty of things he was supposed to be working on for SI, but this was more important. 

It was cold, freezing actually. Snowing too. And Tony had snow in places nobody should have snow, but he was certain now. 

Looking at Bucky—or James as he preferred to be called now—standing there, cheeks flushed red from the cold, hair falling disheveled across his forehead, grinning wider than Tony had ever seen as he dodged, again (damn the super soldier reflexes)...

Yes, Tony was certain now, that winter was his favourite season

WinterIron Bookmark Bingo - November Engagement

It's the third of four months we originally planned to trial this event in, I can't believe how far we've come! I've loved seeing everyone's great recommendations, drables, and ficlets, but enough mushy stuff, let's get into it.

Firstly, this month the recommendation minimums are 3 of either art OR fanfiction, I wanted to make sure I included both, so I have 2 art recommendations and a fanfiction recommendation.

Everything about this piece of art, from the poses chosen to the lighting to the colour palette is so COZY. I think it fits this month's theme perfectly.

Again, the colours are *chefs kiss*. I feel like he definitely took the mask off to look at Bucky, who's just made a dramatic appearance of some sort, and once Bucky see's Tony with the mask off he just kind of freezes. They're both just frozen, thoughts circling like a broken record, "he'sprettyhe'sprettyhe'spretty". Nothing gets me like two confident characters that are so supremely NOT CONFIDENT around their crush. Also, this link I've pasted is a repost by soliloquent-stark, but the original art is here

My last November rec is The Guiding of Death, by, YOU GUESSED IT, @rayshippouuchiha. It's a twist on Hades and Persephone, with Steve in the role of Hades and Tony in the role of Persephone but it's actually WinterIron. In addition to being very good (if I do say so myself), it felt like a good fit for this month; the Persephone myth tells the story of her mandated 6-month stay in the underworld, how her trip there causes things in nature to die and gives us fall, and how her return trip brings life and gives us spring. The myth itself isn't discussed in depth in ray's story, but I think it's both very cozy and lines up well with this month being about autumn comfort.

As always, I'll end with my prompt:

Hot Chocolate.

Bucky is absolutely an excellent ice skater, he's lithe and graceful and, let's be honest, so housecat-coded. Tony, as graceful as he may be in the air, learns on a cute couple's date that ice skating is not a strength of his. After a few hours spent trying to get the hang of it, they're both wet and cold (Tony from falling, and Bucky from Tony trying to grab onto Bucky for balance and dragging Bucky down alongside him) so they go back to the tower to get warm. Of course, the best way to do that is hot chocolate and a movie. Bucky lets Tony pick since the ice skating was Bucky's idea and-absolutely humiliating James, it'll be all over the gossip rags tomorrow!

Teach Me How to Talk Like You A Love At First Snark drabble

Bucky’s good at admiring others; a holdover from his training to assess new people and their strengths. He’s not as good at recognizing his own, but he’s improving. 

Tony, for example, is quick with a response. After the team buried the hatchet, Sam had a story about Tony dismissing Ross after learning the Soldiers were real.

“I’ll put ’ya on hold, I like to watch the line blink.”

Bucky took ages to pull away from hydra. It seemed easy, by comparison, for Tony to stand up to others. And with nothing but wit!

Bucky knew then he was a goner.

What can I say, I feel like Bucky's a sucker for a guy with a big brain and a mouth that'll get him into trouble more often than not, *cough* Steve *cough*.

"I'll Build Us a Home (wherever you go)" A Happily Ever After drabble

Bucky likes making gingerbread houses. Likes to make the perfect houses and imagine how happy gingerbread people are to live in them. He decorates them just so; nice walls, nice roof, nice lawn. 

A good house for a happy gingerbread family. 

Tony taught him during his first tower christmas. It was easy enough and distracted from therapy. He continues the hobby after the holidays end though. 

Just because he enjoys it, and it’s a simple comfort. 

It isn’t until years later that Bucky realizes he’s part of his own happy family, in a nice house he didn’t have to build.

This might lean more winter than fall, but I'm the type of person to get excited about Christmas on November the 1st, so it fits well with *my* cozy autumn.

Taking a Leaf out of Stella's Book

This is a fill for the WinterIron Gets it Done Bingo November prompt Leaf Pile - based on @hapytears' idea shared in the WinterIron Discord of Tony's 'bots playing with a pile of scraps in the workshop like kids playing in a leaf pile.

Pairing: Tony & Bucky (or Tony/Bucky) Rating: General Tags: 'bot shenanigans, Tony's Workshop, fluff Summary: It took Tony longer than it should have to figure out what his 'bots had been up to. Word Count: 318 Words

It took Tony longer than it should have to put two and two together.  After all, one of the very first tasks he’d taught Dum-E - who then taught U - was to sweep up the workshop and make a pile of the bits of metal and other scraps that accumulated when he was hard at work building his latest projects.

That pile was supposed to be sorted through on a regular basis for  recyclable material versus actual trash, and then disposed of appropriately, with direction from JARVIS.   Tony had been vaguely aware that the pile was getting larger than normal, but he’d been too busy with SI concerns and his superhero sidegig to follow up.  

Tony also knew that  Bucky had introduced the ‘bots  to the wonderful world of  online animal videos.   U was absolutely entranced by sheep herding videos, and  Dum-E had somehow picked up the knack of purring from watching recordings of cats.   So when they’d all taken a break a week or so ago to watch a yellow labrador leap joyfully into huge piles of leaves,  Tony hadn’t thought anything of it.  

But then JARVIS had summoned Tony to the workshop.  “It seems  my robotic siblings  have gotten themselves into a bit of a situation,” the  AI had commented dryly.    Said ‘situation’  involved  Dum-E tipped over on one side, beeping in distress with bits of metal and other detritus scattered all around the ‘bot  while   U was balanced precariously on top of the remaining scraps,  high-centered with their treads unable to gain purchase.    

Tony stared in confusion at the mess for a few minutes, and then the penny dropped.  He couldn’t help but laugh as he summoned the armor; after all,  there were some pretty sharp  pieces in that scrap pile, and  Dum-E was no lightweight.    “Nice try,  kiddos,” he commented fondly, starting a recording to share with Bucky,  “but neither of you are  Stella!”
